Certainly who ever ‘’Jack the Ripper’’ was will never truly be known but certainly he/she must’ve have been someone who was able to move freely about London’s East End. Someone who would have blended in with the lower-class elements and would not have stood out or attracted attention. England was still very much a class-ridden society and surely someone of the upper-classes, dressed in fine clothes and looking prosperous would have certainly attracted attention and would have be avoided by the denizens of White Chapel.

It was George W. Bush who did it! It’s my theory, and I’m sticking with it!

Was it a multi-day series of shows? Late 70s probably is the one I’m thinking of . . . for some reason I keep thinking Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman before or after so that’s the time frame I’m remembering. Wasn’t too bad of a program, especially for those times before Discovery, cable etc which today would do something like that.

Well, that diddn't take long. Only 8 posts before we got to those evil, devil worshipping Masons.

I figured it was the butler.

I actually can’t recall much about the show. It might have been multi day but I don’t think so.

The "Swanson Marginalia", known about since 1987.
Not considered "compelling" because the details about the suspect, whether given by Anderson or Swanson are a very poor match to Aaron Kosminski.

Boy, I envy you being there and being able to see Whitechapel itself. Ever been over there? Is it still called Whitechapel?

Oops, I see it’s in the US. So where is this cemetary? Rochester or Gettysburgh?
Would like to see it myself.

Compelling because of the handwritten contemporaneous notes in the margin. Had facts and info not well known and certainly overlooked by many.
I will take the evidence as it stands along with the curators testimony (as he examined the evidence).
Can’t get any closer to the truth than the Black Museum.

Many years ago, I tried to read everything I could get my hands on about Jack the Ripper. I've also regularly downloaded the Ripper programs that have periodically aired on UK TV, and am always fascinated by the deductions made by the various investigators. Back in 2006, I traveled to London for a bus tour of the British Isles, and had a week to myself before the tour left. One of the things I had on my "to do" list was to take the walking Jack the Ripper tour that departs from Tower Hill at night. It was interesting despite the fact that most of the murder sites have changed so much over the years. On the tour I met a nice couple from Springfield, Mass. who were Kennedy haters like myself. If anyone gets to take the Ripper tour, I highly recommend the one with Donald Rumbelow:

Compelling because of the handwritten contemporaneous notes in the margin But they weren't contemporaneous. They had to be at least 22 years after the events.
There are at least half a dozen earlier accounts clearly refering to Montague John Druitt (whose name did not become public until the 1950s). The earliest in January 1889, when the head of the Whitechapel Vigilance Committee raised concern about police patrols in Whitechapel being reduced and was told "off the record, The Ripper is dead"

What amazes me is how shocking and scarey jack the ripper’s crimes were to society. Look at us now.
