on the ground now
very jaw dropping on the radar
Three confirmed tornadoes on the ground in NC right now...
Looks like my kids house on Durham was right in the path of the cell.
Prayers for everyone in it’s path! May God keep you from harm.
Prayers, Bert, let us know when you hear from them.
Praying for your kids.
Glad your OK.I headed home now and will remember everyone in my prayers.
OMG...prayers for them, Bert!
Is there a Durham Street or are you talking about Durham itself?
The cell went well east of Durham.
Ham radio Skywarn report—US 401 and Maywood, “massive destruction,” buildings destroyed, powerlines down.
Oh, sounds real bad, prayers for everybody in this area.
It’s unbelievable that there are a half-dozen deleted posts on this thread. What is the matter with some people..?
Wow, that’s bad...that means it went right through central Raleigh, maybe downtown proper.
Bert, if they’re in Durham, they weren’t in the path of the tornado. I’m in southwest Durham (near South Square if you know the area) and the tornado passed 15-20 miles south of here. It touched down near Sanford where it caused significant damage, came through Holly Springs, then apparently just south of downtown Raleigh and exited out toward Rolesville/Wake Forest.
There is a second tornado that may be even stronger down around the Benson/Dunn/Smithfield area.
Earp’s Seafood Market .. roof .. gone .. brick walls look to be somewhat intact
Have we had any of this weather ‘class’d’ F-wise, F2, F3??
The last couple days, it has been one nasty long band of violent weather moving across the south and now headed into the east
Coming up the East Coast, Folks,, be alert!
U.S. Severe Alerts Map
It destroyed a Lowe’s in Sanford.
Moving North into Virginia and beyond for next few hours at least..
Tornado Watches in a number of counties
Oh No, that’s me
Take shelter, be safe!
Oh man. That place has been there forever
wral announcer saying storm cells may be decreasing in intensities a bit so hopefully by time they get there, it’s not a barn tosser.
Hang in there!
Is that in Sanford or is it the one on 401 and 70 between Raleigh and Garner?
all our Lowe’s here are new,, built to seismic standards .. but still subject to tornados regardless.
report of hail so far up to 2 3/4 inch reported at one location..
tornado on ground in Smithfield near hospital grounds.. moving along I95 corridor
Wow! One nasty looking storm.
Finally heard from my friend down there, the cell network was overloaded, couldn’t get through until now. She had a funnel go right overhead but nothing on the ground in close proximity. Superficial damage, everything’s OK. That’s a relief.
The cation on Twitter via Jim Cantore said Sanford.
Stay safe blueyon! We’re getting lots of lightening, thunder and wind here in Powhatan.

Just saw that on TWC....looks real bad.
I was referring to the Earp’s Seafood Market in that post, which has been around a long time. I was also wondering whether the destroyed Lowes was in Raleigh or Sanford - I’ve heard both so far.
If the reports of brick buildings destroyed are correct, then the tornado had to be F3 or worse.
The Raleigh tornado looked to be about 3/4 of a mile wide, a massive storm.
This link I’m watching keeps saying Sanford.
Wow...I was just in Cary yesterday. Prayers for all. Flying back home later last night was pretty rough. Figured something was in the works. Getting lots of rain, lightening and cold in Louisville, but no ‘naders’.
Oops, Thanks. sorry for any confusion. I think the Lowe’s is in Sanford. They had a video shot earlier of Earp’s on Saunders St. with the roofs gone..
I would suspect more Lowe’s may have been hit.. this is like a pack of tornados and high winds wreaking havoc.. and it’s not done yet.. has been tracking the I95 path ..
That’s what I’m mostly hearing, too. The weather channel said it was in Raleigh once, so I was wondering if it was the one off S. Saunder Street, since that’s where most of the damage has been reported.
Welcome to Oklahoma ...
Have you seen the video of Earp’s online or was it just on TV?
I lived in Raleigh about half my life until a few months ago, when I moved out here to Houston. My folks still live southeast of Raleigh in Willow Spring. Seems like they’re alright, though, luckily.
Heh, seriously, TC, this kind of stuff doesn’t happen around here. Weather Channel said the last significant tornado in Wake County was 13 years ago.
A fair bit of damage all over Raleigh, Holly Springs, back to Sanford...houses reported destroyed in Dunn (over in the Smithfield area off I-95) and at least two more tornadoes on the ground, one aiming for Rocky Mount and one aiming for Wilson, Goldsboro and Greenville. This isn’t over yet and they don’t seem to be weakening.
Have you seen the video of Earps online or was it just on TV?
I saw it on their website, they were streaming Live and had a camera that showed that neighborhood.. roof’s gone,, the brick walls look somewhat intact,, this has definitely been a flurry of tornados thru the area, I remember a windy storm or two while I was there in my yout’ and stationed at New River MCAS. Never made it to Raleigh.
Good to hear all are well.
Thanks! looks like a big wreck at Dega too.. lucky they missed any significant damage last night.. these storms have been beating up the belly of the nation for a couple days.
