There were no massive town hall gatherings, no T.E.A. parties in 1992.

No...Trump is no Ross Perot II. The times are different. People are sick and f'ing tired of politics as usual.

Hows Boener working out?

Is Trump the perfect conservative candidate? Clearly not. Apparently he's been registered as an R, an I and a D. Now an R again. He's a businessman, not a party guy, who has looked out for his interests. He has seen how devistating Barry is for business and America.
Is the eligibility issue the only one? Of course not. Does it matter? Only if you think the Constitution matters!!

Walk..chew gum!

Will he really run? Who knows.

He's clearly hitting a note with a large segment of the non lib population...check the polls Rove. And its almost exclusively re: the eligibility issue. Many people clearly are concerned about Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 of the Constitution...regardless of what the damned beltway (R)'s and state run media want you to think.

Either all of the Constitution matters...or none of it does.

Bravo to Trump for having the "nerve" to address the verboten issue!

It's stunning how many people in this country hide under their desks on this issue. Get a damn backbone already!

This is link to the Wall Street Journal exclusive video interview they conducted with Trump.

Listen for yourself and make up your own mind, but in this interview, Trump makes it clear he is reserving the right to run as an Independent. He said he would feel bad about it because he knows he would take votes away from Republicans, but nonetheless, he will not rule it out.

Trump as Independent in 2012?

My problem with Trump has nothing to do with birtherism. I found it all very entertaining until he began to threaten to run as an Independent. I already committed to voting for him if by some weird series of events he ended up as the Republican Party nominee.

But I don't care who it is, I see a third party candidate as an enemy that must be destroyed.

You misunderstand. I love what Trump is doing on the BC issue.

But we can’t be naive and ignore who Trump really is, if he becomes the nominee.

He’s for universal healthcare, and if he is our nominee, we can say goodbye to our freedom forever.

We’re playing with fire.

The issue isn’t so much BO’s BC, but the citizenship of BO’s father, whoever he might be. Maybe the BC could help with IDing him, but if he wasn’t a US citizen, then BO is not a Natural Born Citizen, regardless of whether he’s a US citizen or not. Two different classes of citizens.

Please...these comments are becoming Anti-Birther

There is no clear proof who Obama’s father is....hence we need the long form birth certificate.

For all we know, Barack, Sr may not be the father

Really tiring of those, even who mean well, for coming up with excuses for not getting the LF BC

What is wrong with a little competition?

The great thing about Trump is that he will make Romney, Huckster and all the mealy mouthed establishment candidates look like wimps, and they will get out early.

If Palin, Bachmann and Trump duke it out until the end, I think it will be good for the party, because they will go after Obama instead of each other.

If Trump goes 3rd party, it is only because the math of the Electoral College will work.

If the choice is between Romney, Trump and Obama, are you really going to vote Romney or the Huckster?

A lot of conservatives won’t vote for Romney of Huckabee and they are the leaders of the pack right now.

Excellent post. And, I think the majority of FR would be in agreement with this.

Romney and Huckster are definitely not worth voting for.

Too many have these wild Conspiracy Theories about Donald Trump....it sounds like the Alex Jones show. Accoring to some “Donald Trump is working with George Soros, Al Gore, Vidkun Quisling, Ivan The Terrible, and Eric the Red, in turning America into a combover republic”

I know Donald Trump has had liberal tendencies in the past. Obviously, this did not matter to people who voted for George Soros-supported John McCain and Sarah Palin in 2008

Agree completely. The debates will be awesome and they'll tear the Won apart.

If there isn’t pressure toward his father’s citizenship (as I said in my first post, IF his BC shows a father), then you can take it to the bank that either there IS a LFBC or there WILL be one, and at the right moment, months from now, Obama will produce cit, and it will show that he was born in Hawaii.

That will be the end of it, and he will get a big boost in the polls, and it will be impossible to raise the issue of his father’s citizenship.

But remember, I mentioned the possibility that the LFBC doesn’t show a father. In fact, if that’s the case, it will allow Obama supporters to generate sympathy for Obama.

The Mediaite version is an article that also has the full 15 minute interview.

Trump Will ‘Probably’ Run As An Independent If He Doesn’t Win GOP Nomination

The Newsy link is a video report that has an excerpt from the WSJ video.

Shoot. If it doesn’t have a transcript I can’t find out exactly what he said, at least not on this computer. If I’m anonymous on somebody else’s computer maybe I could see the video.

So far is Palin the only potential candidate who has stood with him on the reasonableness of his request and his desire to have the questions answered? In contrast to the “establishment” pundits/candidates? Seems to me that maybe Trump and Palin are both sort of distinguishing themselves from the Republican establishment - calling out the establishment to fight in drastic times. Maybe Trump is fishing to see what courage there is in the Republican field, before deciding whether his presence is necessary. So far it seems like Palin might be the only one willing to step up to the plate. Maybe that’s what Trump wants everybody to know.

Hard to say. I honestly have no idea what he’s up to. I do think he realizes that third party is dangerous. Maybe he’s trying to knock some sense into the heads of the R establishment, to get them to realize what the people need them to do and be in these drastic times. When the R’s realize their candidate may be a choice between the “joke” (Trump) and Palin, maybe they will actually be willing to work with Sarah which would make her more electable.

As it is right now, the establishment definitely doesn’t “get it”, doesn’t realize that the people want and need somebody who will fight when war is declared on everything this country is supposed to be. If the establishment doesn’t wake up and get serious, a third party is the only option. Maybe Trump means to scare the holy heck out of them to wake them up. If the establishment R’s keep flipping us off they are sealing their own fate and the fate of the country. What Trump has done should make that abundantly - and powerfully - clear to people like Rove.

I think Sarah gets it. So far the establishment folks don’t, and that could be lethal. It’s their choice.

“So far is Palin the only potential candidate who has stood with him on the reasonableness of his request and his desire to have the questions answered?”

Last night on Fox News Justice with Judge Jeanine, IIRC, Michele Bachmann echoed almost exactly Sarah Palin’s support for Trump's “Why not just show the BC” version of being a "birther."

I can't find the video yet...

That makes 2 then. The 2 women who have been disparaged by both the “establishment” and the media (ever notice how those seem to go hand in hand most the time?).

The men are totally AWOL.

That may be what Trump wants people to see. He may be stepping out and taking the first bullets to see who will stand up and follow him into war and who will stay at home curled up under a nice cozy media blanket. That’s what we voters need to see, in a world where anybody can SAY they will fight the giant and once we’ve elected them and can see whether they walk the walk, it’s too late. Maybe Trump is providing an opportunity for people to walk the walk BEFORE people have to vote for them. He’s broken the silence. He’s made the issue prominent. Now we’ll see who walks the walk, and who cowers in a corner.

I think Trump knows we need to see drastic action to repair the damage that’s been done. I think he’s saying his decision to run or not depends on whether there’s anybody else who is willing and able to do what needs to be done. He’s stirring the pot to see what fat and skin floats to the top to be skimmed off and what substance remains.

So far it seems like Palin and Bachmann are the ones who haven’t floated to the top to be skimmed off. Romney, Huck, and Pawlenty all floated to the top immediately with just a tiny bit of media heat underneath the burner. I don’t know about Herman Cain.

I think if there’s solid meat in that pot, Trump may decide he doesn’t need to run but can throw his weight behind the person who can do what needs to be done. It can’t be somebody who will melt whenever the media even threatens to look crosswise at them.

At the same time, if Trump’s influence can make sure the AZ law takes effect, Obama’s own ineligibility may clear him out of the way as the democratic candidate. If the dems don’t come up with somebody else they may be without a candidate at all, and whichever lady is chosen to represent the R’s will enter the presidency, with Trump as much as opening the door of her car for her like any gentleman would do.

I could be reading Trump all wrong. I can’t even see the video where he speaks so I could DEFINITELY be wrong.

I hope I’m not wrong on this one though. I hope Trump is serving the country in this way.

I looked for a transcript for you, but I couldn't find one.

In the video, Trump went out of his way to say nice things about Palin, and hinted at a contempt for Romney, suggesting he would be the one most adversely affected by Trump running as a Republican.

My impression... Trump was using the possibility of an Independent run as a threat to the Republican Party. Kind of a Nominate me or I will take away votes from you and make you lose anyway.

At this point, because of his 3rd party threat, and his lack of conservative credentials, I am anti-Trump.

OTOH, if he made it clear he would accept the results of the Republican primary, and if it wasn't him, would support and campaign for the winner, I would heartily welcome his participation. But he would have a difficult time proving his conservatism.

If he takes away the threat of a 3rd party it lets the establishment folks totally ignore him. Just like a kid can ignore a parent if he knows the parent would never enforce any consequences anyway.

I think Trump wants to get the establishment’s attention and force them to get real. We can’t afford to have them cowering in the corner; we’ve got a battle for this nation that has to be fought. I think Trump is saying that if the generals are going to refuse to meet the enemy head-on, then we’ll find our own generals. I think that’s what HAS to be communicated when the generals are peeing their pants in a corner rather than leading the charge.

What would it say to the Rove people if Trump said, “If you guys choose Romney of Pawlenty then I’ll just leave and shut up”?

By speaking bluntly and getting a lot of support, Trump is illustrating clearly to the establishment that they will have the support of the troops if they will only REALLY commit to fighting the battle.

He’s William Wallace (from “Braveheart”) picking a fight with the enemy when the clan leaders are trying to negotiate for more titles and land for themselves. All that’s missing is Trump hasn’t raised his kilt yet. lol
