Regardless of reasons and the remedies for these tragedies we can’t be indifferent to them.

Well said.

...and when you tell the hopeless that there is no hope in God because He doesn’t exist.

No...it’s easier to bring “Atlas Shrugged” into the conversation...how it relates, I have no clue.

The Texas woman who drowned her children in the bathtub was neither poor nor black.

Not necessarily! I know of two right off hand-one didn’t vote at all, and one voted for R. Reagan! Not only that, that one also voted Republ. on the national/statewide level, w/occasional conservative Dems. on the very local level.

The other one who didn’t vote, probably would’ve voted for G. Bush if she had voted. She was too busy working and taking care of her kids, and didn’t have the time to get too involved in politics. She leaned to Republican side mostly. So you mustn’t simply assume that they are all nuts and vote for Democrats. Many are, but not all.

Good one!

Endless God bashing does not encourage one’s faith, or life. Or pretending to not need God, that only the weak need Him, ignoring the fact that without Him we wouldn’t exist.

Broken hearts need mercy and understanding,.. and hope.

while the circumstances she describes rarely happen to people with the ability to express themselves in writing as she does.

I noticed that as well. How many "coal miners daughters" use the word "exacerbated" correctly in a sentence?

What an idiotic remark.

My dad was a blue collar worker, and I'm quite capable of writing grammatically.

If you’re a Christian, this could possibly be called demonic possession. Satan always preys on the weak of spirit.

I’m with you. The article doesn’t sound credible.

Hey lady, if your husband was hurting you then you should’ve been thinking about killing him and not your innocent children.

Well, at the very least, she should put the kids in the car and drive them to a church or help center. Then go away to fight her own demons.

What kind of idiot kills their children or can’t see an OBVIOUS alternative!

Had 5 kids in 6 1/2 years. Never thought of killing them but tried to run away from home once and the car broke down.

Getting damn sick myself of excuses women give othe women for the vilest of crimes. She was depressed so we should understand.

Would anyone allow this excuse by a man?

Of course its all BS. The author is simply making excuses for murder of children by other women.

I don’t see the connection either. But if I had to guess, he’s probably suggesting that, since Rand was an atheist who promoted acting out of self-interest...never mind, there was no reason to bring up the movie in this context.

I think the connection is fairly obvious. This female person (I refuse to call her a mother) was obviously in desperate need of help.

A true Objectivist would say society and its members have no obligation to try to help her and prevent what she eventually did, that in fact doing so would be counter-productive and in fact evil.

Or that at least forcing others to do so through taxation would be wrong. A debatable point, but in its full-bore form one that few can stomach.

I guess I’m just a heartless bastard...but this sad tale of woe and remorse didn’t even flutter the needle on my “Give-A-Damn” meter.

My dad was a blue collar worker, and I'm quite capable of writing grammatically.

My apologies to you and your father. There was a time when an 8th grade education was comprehensive. Today's under twenty somethings are nowhere in that league. The knock was intended for the "younger generation" not the socioeconometric status of blue collar workers.

My father was a immigrant and worked in a factory as a maintenance man for 20 years. He painted beautiful watercolors of flowers and nature scenes.

GtG
