The NLRB fires a shot South Carolina can’t ignore
WaPo ^ | 4/23/11 | Kathleen Parker,

It is almost clockwork: As a new presidential election cycle winds around, the early primary state of South Carolina provides a defining issue for Americans and candidates to chew over.

Whether it’s a debate about where the Confederate battle flag should fly — or the “real” meaning of secession — the nation’s most stubborn state can be a tar pit for the incautious politician.

Thus, almost to the day that South Carolina commemorated the 150th anniversary of the first shot of the Civil War, the federal government lobbed a grenade into the Palmetto State, challenging a private industry’s right to conduct business there.

Now wait just a cotton-pickin’ minute.

Regardless of one side's today in the debate concerning the War Between the States, Constitutional Conservatives doubtlessly acknowledge that South Carolina is nowadays one of the places in our Republic where individual initiative, freedom and liberty are cherished. In fact that's a trait shared throughout Dixie, where union thuggery through coerced membership isn't tolerated:

Never knew there was a state of Nebraska larger than even Texas a long time ago. Learn something new every day.

What is this, since the Stepford Wife lost her CNN gig with Client #9, is she now attempting to portray herself as a re-born, once again, relevant conservative? Sorry Kathy, you defecated in your mess kit with those constant anti Sarah Palin rants, and it still stinks way too much for this conservative to sup from.

Actually (although the map's legend doesn't indicate it), Nebraska was a territory at the time instead of a state. So, Texas stills won the size contest.

Incidentally, the original Colony of Virgina was rather large since it also encompassed what is now Kentucky (as well as West Virginia).

One commenter openly states he’d rather see the jobs get sent to China than anywhere in the south because of his hatred of anything southern.

The leftists are getting unbelievably shrill as of late.

In turn, I'd like to see liberals sent to China because of my hatred for anything Socialist. We don't care much for O'Bambi, his regime and his anti-liberty, pro-homosexual, anti-life, pro-union agenda here in the South.

There was an article here in FR last year (link below) that explained how screwed Montgomery County, MD was due to unions. Government employee salaries consumed 85% of Montgomery County's budget. Salaries also doubled between 2000 and 2006. Now with tax collections in the hole Montgomery County is finding they are in a vise they can't get out of.

The quote of the day though in this article comes from a Fairfax County, VA police union rep who is commenting on the situation in Montgomery County and how the unions there have done so well. His reply should be on the lips of every Republican as we go to the polls in 2012.

He said, "We basically don't have a seat at the table when it comes to negotiating contracts," said Marshall Thielen, president of Fairfax County's police union. But speaking about Montgomery's situation, he added,

"If the political leaders are stupid enough to give up the store, that's on them, not on the union."

Re “Never knew there was a state of Nebraska larger than even Texas...”.

It’s all them cattle and their methane gas. Makes the whole state expand.

If you light a match there, you’d have a statewide BBQ and horns all over the place. Gotta get some Sweet Baby Back Ribs sauce. Yum, yum!

GOV. Nikki Haley is going to bitchslap the NLRB, Obama, and his union thugs so hard that even Nancy Pelosi will say “Ouch”.

DeMint is going to look good in this fight and Goober will have to start acting like a man, not a “girlyman”.

“Hey grandma. Throw some yeast in the river; the South shall rise again.”

Looks like Non-Sequitur is posting comments on the WaPo website:

I do have my facts straight. Boeing has additional capacity in Renton and on the 767 line, too. A job that goes to South Carolina is a job that isn't in Puget Sound.

Let me clear. I hate the South. I hate southerners, I despise them for how they have poisoned our national politics, and injected abject stupidity and racism into our political debate. I'll happily see a Seattle job go to China before I let it go to South Carolina. Starve the beast, as Grover Norqusist calls it.

He means how the South has been able, so far, to foil the yankee leftist plans to turn the United States of America into the United Soviet Socialist Union Thugs of America.

I'll happily see a Seattle job go to China before I let it go to South Carolina.

Proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that he's a typical liberal yankee commie.

Nebraska did not become a state until 1867. It was state number 37.

The areas north, west and northwest of Nebraska remained "The Dakota Territory," for some time thereafter.

The correlation between confederate states and right-to-work states is not a coincidence.

The side that suffers a military defeat usually has its industrial base wiped out (or never had one). At the time FDR was creating a new labor legislation regime in the mid 30’s (Wagner, 1935), America’s manufacturing base - and the core its of blue collar labor force - was in the North, so these became forced union states. The GOP congress’ attempts to curb labor legislation somewhat in the mid 40’s (Taft-Hartley, 1947) met the most success in the South where there was little capability - nor need, nor interest - on the part of unions to prevent the creation of right-to-work refuges in the South.

So over the past 65 years America’s manufacturing base has drifted south, that is why everyone from Kia and Honda to BMW and Mercedes are setting up shop and succeeding in the South, while our domestic auto manufacturers continue to choke and puke in the North.

The only way Boeing can avoid going the way of GM is to move from Forced Union states to Right To Work states.

The huge GOP win in 2010 parallels the big win in 1948, as both were/will be about cutting down unions. It absolutely must happen to save the country.

The South will rise again. Actually, it has risen again, hasn’t it? An appropriate thought on Easter Sunday. God bless America and God bless y’all!

>> the original Colony of Virgina was rather large since it also encompassed what is now Kentucky (as well as West Virginia <<

Actually, both the colony of Virginia AND the “original state” of VA were much larger, since they included not only KY and WV, but also the present-day states of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Virginia voluntarily gave up the latter five in 1787 when the Northwest Ordinance went into effect. Then in 1792, VA also gave up KY voluntarily.

West Virginia’s formation, however, wasn’t exactly “voluntary” — and even today, some constitutional scholars maintain that WV was admitted to the Union illegally, in violation of the U. S. Constitution’s Article 4, Section 3.

Moreover, as far as I know, the Commonwealth of Virginia still has never given its assent to the formation of West Virginia. So when it comes to the “official Virginia position,” there’s no such thing as the state of West Virginia!

Moreover, just imagine how much better the USA would be today without having suffered from such loathesome U. S. senators as Bobby Byrd, Jay Rockefeller and Joe Manchin.

On the other hand, without WV’s electoral votes in 2000, GWB would have lost, and Algore would have become POTUS. So on balance, maybe we should be thankful for WV!
