Yesterday was a sad day for Free Republic
May 3, 2011 | Huck

Posted on 05/03/2011 4:46:53 AM PDT by Huck

Yesterday should have been a glorious day around here. There should have been fireworks and celebration. There should have been somber remembrances. There should have been patriotic tributes. There should have been shared joy at the news that our guys had finally gotten Bin Laden.

Instead, when I visited the site, what I found was a lot of carping. I found people focused more on the political spin than on the great news. I found people transferring their birther mentality onto this event, talking about Obama faking this news, photoshopping information, etc. It wasn't everybody, but it was a LOT of people. It made me sick.

Yesterday Free Republic seemed like DU. It makes me wonder what the hell is going on. Are Freepers getting younger? I always assume that DU is so pathetically immature because they must be younger. Free Republic has always been a place dominated by great class, and wit, and decency. Not this time. What I saw yesterday was a pathetic embarrassment and totally unworthy of this great forum.

As some of you may know, I was in lower Manhattan on 9-11. I was just across the street from the WTC when the first plane hit. I still remember the beautiful clear blue sky that day. I remember walking in between the towers just a minute or so before 8:46am, on my normal route to work. I remember my co-workers screaming in panic when they watched from an office window as the second plane hit the south tower. I remember women crying and screaming hysterically. I remember not being able to contact my wife to tell her I was OK. I remember people jumping to their deaths. I remember seeing the north tower go down with my own eyes, hearing it with my own ears. I remember fleeing Manhattan. I remember it was a Tuesday.

I remember returning to work the following Monday, riding the ferry passed the site, noxious smoke still billowing from the wreckage. I remember armed troops on the sidewalks. I remember wearing a breathing mask inside my building because the foul odor was seeping in through the ventilation system. I remember thinking we'd really gotten kicked in the teeth. They had killed innocent people, they had traumatized our women and children, and I really wanted revenge. I hung a picture on my wall of the American eagle sharpening his talons.

It has been a long time since that day. It's hard to believe how fast time flies. Then again, if you lost your loved one, I imagine time hasn't gone so fast. I love my wife so much, I can empathize with anyone who has lost the one they love. I can't imagine how that would be, and don't want to know, but I can cry for those people because I know what it is like to find your one true love.

I'm not an Obama fan. I hate socialism. But I am so happy that Bin Laden is killed, and that we have exacted some real revenge. It's about time. The politics don't even play into it for me. I still have the little flag, now tattered, that I flew on my car antenna after 9-11. I want to take it out of storage and put it on my car. I want to see American flags on cars like we saw back then. But it's not going to happen, and partially because the normally patriotic conservatives such as the ones here on Free Republic are instead focused on the politics and the fact that a socialist Democrat was president and will get some of the credit.

I guess you all would have been pissed on D-Day too. FDR was as big a socialist as anyone. I guess VE day and VJ day would have chapped your hides, since Truman was a DEM. I don't mean to paint with a broad brush. I know it wasn't every Freeper acting this way. But when I went on the board, that was the general impression, and it was really disappointing. It should have been a great day here. Instead, I saw a lack of patriotism and a lack of class. Free Republic should be better than this. If conservatives lose their patriotism and class, then what will happen to those virtues? I hope we can get them back soon. In the meantime, thanks for reading.

Respectfully,

Huck

Great post, thank you!! I believe our guys got OBL, I didn’t doubt it because I knew so many military people and others had to be involved it would be impossible for the President to manufacture it.

Do I believe every word of the story? All important events have more than one story that comes out, especially in the beginning. I think that is more evidence of our sorry media that doesn’t do their job anymore than it points to conspiracy. Parts of the story will never be told or will be changed, likely to protect operational methods or to keep from disclosing names of those involved to protect them and their families. That is as it should be, we don’t need to know everything.

I understand the distrust for our current President, but in this case to think he made it up for political reasons is to believe large numbers of good men and women would go along with him. It would take a lot of hard evidence to ever convince me of that.

We have a saying in my family, "Don't should on me and I won't should on you."

You don't know dick about what others should or should not be doing or saying. There is a real world where the word should doesn't exist. I'm glad you're in touch with your feelings, Huck, but I'm not interested in what they are.

More than 90 percent of what Zero says is a lie. Could be as high as 99 percent. He says anything; I instantly disbelieve him. He has not, in any way, earned my trust.

So, when he comes out with a BS story about the death of his buddy Osama, I'm amazed any freeper would give it any credence. I didn't talk to anybody yesterday that believed it. Even the lady at the checkout line at the grocery store said it was a bunch of crap. America has begun to wise up to this anti-American POS. I expect freepers to lead the charge.

I agree there are too many liberals and Republicans on FreeRepublic now. Too many people trying to make nice-nice. In case you haven't noticed, this country is under severe attack. No one has declared it, but we are at war. With people who don't fight fair.

I hope you really don't like this post.

You are not wrong Huck. I posted a few pix of the crowds in front of the Whitehouse. The responses were 'astroturf' or 'feeling uneasy' about the images. I would have posted a lot more but i've had the flu since Friday.

Took time from my increasingly busy days to read this entire thread. There is almost nothing that comes from this regime that I do not filter through a very skeptical prism. Is Osama dead? Perhaps. Is the account of claimed death verifiable by reliable sources? ETC. The first version of the take down was on FOX and the story was that a week earlier OBL was killed, DNAd, and now ready for the public to be informed. Next morning the whole story changed and now we have a shoot of Obama and Hillary and other VIPs in a room watching the raid as it takes place. Or so it is implied when in fact that whole audience could have been watching a video of the action as the first report of it happening a week earlier. Truth is buried in the parsing, a word made popular by an earlier liar in chief, Bill Clinton. There are so many good responses to your vanity that explore and explain the total lack of belief in the govt speak of this administration that I cannot think of anything that one or another poster has not covered. Obama is due no credit for anything as I see it. He let others do the heavy lifting and then gives the media a reason to pump up his flailing presidency by taking credit for killing Osama. The military did the job and total credit goes to those heros and that is what made my day. We still have the finest military in the world and those brave men and women are why this Republic is still free.

Huch, Go home amd take a pill. When you can think straight then take another look.

I do not believe OBL is dead. And for good reason.THe body was disposed of without independent forensic identification by NATO allies. WHY?

Simple. The man killed was not OBL.Oh yes, the SEALS undountedly thought it was, but it was a back door Obama/Pakistam Intel set up...staged.

In fact, everybody in that room photo where Obozo was wearing his golfing outfit hates the military with a passion.

Since the picture included a general, an admiral, and the secretary of defense, that seems unlikely.

That's pretty funny. I know there were a lot. Some of that was just for the parallel rhythm of it, when I was rattling off my list. But that's ok. I can take a joke.

Not necessarily. What if they found proof that he died several years ago and this was staged and he USED the navy Seals knowing that Usama wasn’t in there but one of his look a likes that he used WAS in there. That would explain the instant dumping in the sea.

The AP has never made a scan of the claimed document. They were given a packet of 6 photocopies: the green copy, the white copy, 2 pages of Obama’s lawyer’s request, one page of Obama’s request, and one page of Fuddy’s response. The white copy has no sign of a seal anywhere. The green copy has a very faint, indistinct circle.

In addition, there was what claimed to be a photo of the green copy. The scan of that photo was in various web articles and shows no sign of a seal anywhere. Apparently no reporter who was there bothered to check for a seal or to get a photo clearly showing the seal.

There was a photo of a reporter with the “white copy” photocopy that he was given in the packet. No sign of a seal. And where did that white copy come from anyway? If it was one of the certified copies the HDOH had sent (one a white copy and one a green copy) then it should have had some sign of a seal. It doesn’t. If it was made from the green copy, how did they get all the green out?

Those 2 kinds of photos are the only thing the AP had anything to do with. Everything else that they had was a photocopy from the White House.

But I do realize this is not the place to discuss this so if you’d prefer to discuss privately through freepmail or to go to a different thread, that would be better.

“So, when he comes out with a BS story about...”

Well, there’s your problem right there. He didn’t come out with Jack S. The US military informed him of what they accomplished. He just gave the “yeah, whatever” to a mission which the intelligence services and military planned and executed.

You act like you have no independent conscience apart from what you see on the big screen. Do you really ~want~ to live in 1984? Because that’s what’s available to you via the MSM. Dissillusionment and cynicism is what ya get for patronizing the MSM.

It makes you a conspiracy lunatic to think the entire National Security Team, including the SecDef, and the Navy Seals, and the CIA were all in on a big conspiracy involving the mastermind of 9-11 just so Obama can look good.

Well said. I can understand people having trouble being happy about Osama Dead Laden when the reason for their unhappiness is having to watch Obozo bask in the glory of what he, in fact, had almost nothing to do with. What I can't understand is the large number of posters who don't believe this mission happened at all. Or, taken to its extreme, that even our most elite special ops forces are so corrupt they would lie for the sake of re-electing a Marxist who is hell-bent on destroying this country.

Yes, it makes you a freak.

If you're posting on a forum dominated by people who don't believe we landed on the moon, and you agree that we didn't land on the moon, then, on that forum, you are not a freak. I think this may be where we are finding ourselves, Huck. I hope to be wrong about that.
