Yesterday was a sad day for Free Republic
May 3, 2011 | Huck

Posted on 05/03/2011 4:46:53 AM PDT by Huck

Yesterday should have been a glorious day around here. There should have been fireworks and celebration. There should have been somber remembrances. There should have been patriotic tributes. There should have been shared joy at the news that our guys had finally gotten Bin Laden.

Instead, when I visited the site, what I found was a lot of carping. I found people focused more on the political spin than on the great news. I found people transferring their birther mentality onto this event, talking about Obama faking this news, photoshopping information, etc. It wasn't everybody, but it was a LOT of people. It made me sick.

Yesterday Free Republic seemed like DU. It makes me wonder what the hell is going on. Are Freepers getting younger? I always assume that DU is so pathetically immature because they must be younger. Free Republic has always been a place dominated by great class, and wit, and decency. Not this time. What I saw yesterday was a pathetic embarrassment and totally unworthy of this great forum.

As some of you may know, I was in lower Manhattan on 9-11. I was just across the street from the WTC when the first plane hit. I still remember the beautiful clear blue sky that day. I remember walking in between the towers just a minute or so before 8:46am, on my normal route to work. I remember my co-workers screaming in panic when they watched from an office window as the second plane hit the south tower. I remember women crying and screaming hysterically. I remember not being able to contact my wife to tell her I was OK. I remember people jumping to their deaths. I remember seeing the north tower go down with my own eyes, hearing it with my own ears. I remember fleeing Manhattan. I remember it was a Tuesday.

I remember returning to work the following Monday, riding the ferry passed the site, noxious smoke still billowing from the wreckage. I remember armed troops on the sidewalks. I remember wearing a breathing mask inside my building because the foul odor was seeping in through the ventilation system. I remember thinking we'd really gotten kicked in the teeth. They had killed innocent people, they had traumatized our women and children, and I really wanted revenge. I hung a picture on my wall of the American eagle sharpening his talons.

It has been a long time since that day. It's hard to believe how fast time flies. Then again, if you lost your loved one, I imagine time hasn't gone so fast. I love my wife so much, I can empathize with anyone who has lost the one they love. I can't imagine how that would be, and don't want to know, but I can cry for those people because I know what it is like to find your one true love.

I'm not an Obama fan. I hate socialism. But I am so happy that Bin Laden is killed, and that we have exacted some real revenge. It's about time. The politics don't even play into it for me. I still have the little flag, now tattered, that I flew on my car antenna after 9-11. I want to take it out of storage and put it on my car. I want to see American flags on cars like we saw back then. But it's not going to happen, and partially because the normally patriotic conservatives such as the ones here on Free Republic are instead focused on the politics and the fact that a socialist Democrat was president and will get some of the credit.

I guess you all would have been pissed on D-Day too. FDR was as big a socialist as anyone. I guess VE day and VJ day would have chapped your hides, since Truman was a DEM. I don't mean to paint with a broad brush. I know it wasn't every Freeper acting this way. But when I went on the board, that was the general impression, and it was really disappointing. It should have been a great day here. Instead, I saw a lack of patriotism and a lack of class. Free Republic should be better than this. If conservatives lose their patriotism and class, then what will happen to those virtues? I hope we can get them back soon. In the meantime, thanks for reading.

Respectfully,

Huck

I agree. I loathe Obama. It is beginning to seem as if many here loathe our entire government. I would love to see our government cut by 50%, but I don’t hate it. I spent 25 years in the military. It has its faults, but it isn’t a corrupt tool of evil.

Here is a perfect example of exactly the mentality you described. Exept I don't think he really "loathes" 0bama.

We killed the figurehead of a largely defunct terrorist organization.

Meanwhile, our nation is bankrupt and becoming more so, and our living standards are falling rapidly.

The second if FAR more important than the first.

Disgust with BHO aside, it WAS a stellar military operation.

Couldn’t be more proud of “our boys.”

There’s very few times in history when “Justice is Served” so well and truly. This is one of them; If ever a joker deserved to get whacked, OBL is him. He’ll NEVER hurt anyone ever again.

Felt the same when our guys pulled Saddam out of his toilethole a few years back, and finally got to watch him swing.

Ceacescu up against the wall was another high point.

Imagine what it would have been like to have been able to get into Adolf’s bunker BEFORE he was able to pull the trigger on himself in 1945...and nab the bustard, put him on display for all to see.

As I said before, now on to George Soros...

(((little jeremiah))) I am thrilled the monster UBL is dead that he was killed up close and personal by OUR NAVY SEALS, AND that he knew *our guys got him*,

but never forget that THE WON ran against GWB and every policy that was used to KILL UBL and now he's taking full credit!!!

He deserves some credit as CiC.

He deserves no credit. There were articles yesterday - not MSM of course - indicating that he had to be forced to okay the action. Forced to. Even if he okayed it, he could have okayed it long ago. He deserves not one iota of credit. The men who did the job - if it is all as described - deserve all the credit. Not a usurper filthifying the office of the President of the United States of America.

“See ya.”

Well, there’s FR’s problem right there.
You get a pretty narrow circle of friends if you kick them to the curb any time they have a different opinion.

Well for starters no other POTUS in history has created so much mistrust of government and office. FDR didn't nor did Truman even though FDR's New Deal was lies and snake oil. Ever meet a person that if they told you the sun arose from the east you would feel like you have to make sure because the person was so untrustworthy? That is how many feel about our current leaders both DEM and GOP. We've been lied too one too many times actually many too many times.

If you want to blame someone for the mistrust look at who abused their powers going back most recently to Poppy, Clinton, W, Obama and congress since 1989 ALL of which created much of the mistrust we see today.

Thank Ford and Carter as well for making state sponsored terrorism and act where any terrorist leading thug calling himself head of state got a free pass from death and would not be killed by our government because of a Ford and Carter E.O. protecting those running nations sponsoring terrorism.

The only one I believe in all this in the past couple days are the U.S. Navy SEAL's and they can't talk.

The one conspiracy I still consider is that the release of the poorly forged composite document on the 27th is directly connected to what the professionals in the miliatry and intel informed barry bassturd was coming. Barry had to release the scam before the strike, to use the uptick to sweep aside his fraudulent ‘release’ of a composite scam . It fries my ass that the bassturd in the White House was more focused upon exploiting what he anticipated in patriotic pride in order to foment yet another scam regarding his ineligibility. If the questioning process at FR fianlly exposes this aspect, well, bring it on! FR folks are always, ALWAYS proud of our courageous, patriotic military personnel, even as we despise the lying bastard in the oval office. That the bastard sought to exploit our pride in our military is yet another layer of this anti-american commie administration.

“But I am so happy that Bin Laden is killed”

As am I but a little skepticism is healthy. When Clinton said the infamous words “I did not have sex with that woman”, did you say “Well, that settles it then. He is innocent.”? When the President says “I killed Bin Laden and threw his body where no one can verify that it happened”, it makes people a little suspicious especially when he did it to cater to the butchers cult beliefs.

Good post Appy Pappy thanks.

Obama is such a liar, and all the time does disingenuous things so being suspicious is always called for.

Just like it was when Rather was exposed (at that time he was a highly "respected" journalist) and as you mention if we believed Clinton.

The back story on that of course is that Clinton and his minions were in the process of literally destroying Monica when it was proved that he was lying.

As is apparant now, she would have been marginalized and destroyed if she didn't have the dress.

Obama has created a persona that will cause any conservative clear thinker to question everything he says and does as most everything in those categories is questionable.

You are not the only freeper that has military service here. There are many of us on free republic that have military service too. Some freepers even are from the intelligence agencies.

More than you realize. ;-) I'm not waiving the bloody shirt, just giving some background information on my opinion. I only mentioned the military aspect because its relevant to what you say next (and many people feel.)

At any rate, I do not see anyone bashing the military. They are bashing the political leadership that uses our wonderful military for political gain.

I had a friend from high school turn Truther in college. He knew I was SOF support, and an intel guy. He very earnestly stated that there was a lot of evidence that it was MIHOP. False flag attack. Treason, carried out by our own intelligence agencies.

It was ridiculous, but I patiently took to breaking it down for him. I explained the size of the operation that would be, the number of people involved, the vast number of potential leaks, the physical evidence that would exist. Resourcing aside, that was minor to the impossibility of identifying, recruiting and maintaining enough people willing to carry out such and act, and remain silent about it forever.

Long story short, he concluded that I wasn't involved but wasn't ready to see the Truth, and I concluded never to speak to him again.

I understand the desire to look for the truth, but you can't indirectly accuse someone of being a participant in a monstrous crime and cover up without insulting their honor. You don't trust the slimy politician they work for. Got it. But if that UBL conspiracy theory hinges on the participation of the Navy SEALs and the intelligence community, when any of them could go public and prove him wrong, utterly destroying his presidency, then you're basically accusing all of them of the same crime you accuse Obama of.

AS much as I “strongly dislike” the POTUS, I actually don’t begrudge him this victory, because we’ve waited so long and wanted it so badly.

HOWEVER,
because he is a known LIAR and everything he says and does is OPAQUE, shrouded in mystery, plotted and planned based on potential political fallout, scripted and teleprompted, retracted and revisited, etc., I’m having a hard time feeling all “warm and fuzzy.”
Something just feels “off.”

It doesn't matter. I'm not saying he deserves a lot of credit. But he gets some. He had to OK the mission and he did. It was successful. End of story.

But see, that's not the point. It's not about who gets credit. It's about that SONOFABITCH BIN LADEN being greased!!! It's AWESOME! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! It's still sinking in! And I'm glad he was killed DEAD, not brought in for trial!

To: NFHale; All

Everyone needs to read your post. I’m repeating it with a full ping....Huck, I think what you were witnessing was the collective frustration of folks who have watched this administration
basically try to dismantle everything we love for the past two years - an admin who will now try to take credit for something that he had nothing to do with, indeed, tried his damnedest to impede, for years prior to being in control.

Here’s the rub - we have been pursuing OBL for ten years now, and all the while listening to the idiots and vile morons on the left denigrate, denounce, and castigate every effort our previous President made in the prosecution of that effort - even while the bodies of our countrymen were not even cold inthe rubble of the Trade Centers, the left started undermining our efforts to exact justice.

And now, we finally get the b*stard, and it’s FuBO in charge when it happens, and we ALL know he’s going to try to take the credit for it, even though he bascially had ZERO to do with it.

We know he saw his chance to improve his poll numbers, and he took it - using the circumstances (”never let a crisis go to waste”) to try to bolster his miserable failure of a presidency.

I personally am glad that the miserable goat humper OBL is dead. I hope the very last thing that went through his head - before the bullet, that is - is one of the SEALs saying “This is from ALL of America, chump”.

I am just disappointed that it happened now, at this point in time, with this ridiculous excuse for a man in the White House trying to take credit for the actions of better men than himself - REAL Americans who throw themselves in harm’s way, every day, because they love the country that raised them and want to protect it from fiends.

To my mind, that’s what went on here yesterday. FuBO went after OBL not because OBL was an enemy of America, but because he saw a chance to get himself re-elected by looking like a big, tough guy. And if its true, that’s just disgusting (I hope to God I’m wrong, but I don’t think I am).

It’s not a lack of Patriotism, good brother; on the contrary, it’s out of love and Patriotism that people recoiled as they did, knowing that this administration, quite possibly THE most Un-American adminstration the country has ever seen, will try to milk this event just to get the fraud re-elected and further erase us as a country, as a people, and as a nation. “

Great job, NFHale!!

I agree with you. I really can’t stand the “FR just isn’t what it was in the old days” posts.

If some FReeper doesn’t like what another Freeper is saying they have every right to argue about it in that thread but to start another thread lecturing because everybody doesn’t agree with you is a bore.
