The 23-year-old native of Illinois didn't like the way Americans were celebrating the death of Osama bin Laden on Monday, and he let out his frustrations on Twitter.
"What kind of person celebrates death?" Mendenhall, who last made national headlines for fumbling in the Super Bowl and "celebrating" a little too hard with Ben Roethlisberger in the playoffs, wrote. "It's amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We've only heard one side ..."
That wasn't all, though, as Mendenhall expressed doubt that airplanes could have demolished the World Trade Center.
"We'll never know what really happened," Mendenhall wrote. "I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style."
Obviously, Mendenhall has spent at least 15 minutes watching some of the awesome 9/11 conspiracy videos on YouTube, and he's passing that off as "enlightenment."
"There is not an ignorant bone in my body," he said. "I just encourage you to [think]."

As a Steeler fan, I always thought Redman should’ve been getting the ball more than Mendenhall. He averages a yard more per carry and he DOESN’T FUMBLE.

If we're going to start getting real rational, it's also pretty amazing how grown men can get paid millions of dollars to run with a ball.
Or that millions of people spend money to make a bunch of physical freaks rich playing a game where the whole point is to slam the guy with the ball to the ground.

If Mendenhall was even a little intellecually curious, he could quite quickly find the video of bin Laden from just a months or so after 9/11 where he speaks in great detail about how the plan when "better" than he could have even imagined. In that tape, he talks about his own engineering background and how he even underestimated the power of that fuel fire. He thought that the tops of the towers would actually fall over, leaving the bottom parts intact.
In the transcript from that particular tape, you can read where bin Laden says...
"we calculated in advance the number of casualties from the enemy, who would be killed based on the position of the tower. We calculated that the floors that would be hit would be three or four floors. I was the most optimistic of them all..
Later in that same video, even without speaking Arabic, you can understand his hand signals he makes about the towers leaning over, and then falling - and as he's making these gestures he's literally laughing about it.
Maybe Brandon doesn't know how to use the internet.
