Thousands have joined a campaign to "bump" Donald Trump as this year's Indy 500 pace car driver in part because of his comments about President Obama's birth certificate. Thousands have joined a campaign to "bump" Donald Trump as this year's Indy 500 pace car driver in part because of his comments about President Obama's birth certificate.
For some it probably seemed like a perfect fit. A man known for creating a spectacle kicking off the greatest spectacle in racing.
"As soon as they announced him I was uncomfortable. That just didn't feel right," Michael Wallack said.
Wallack said he is an Indy 500 fan to his core. He said he was initially just disappointed that Trump would be driving the pace car. Then The Donald joined the chorus of people claiming President Obama wasn't born in the U.S. and that's when Wallack says inspired the new movement.
"To me when he really started into the birtherism that's what got me to go ahead and start the page," Wallack said.
The page titled "We Don't Want Donald Trump to Drive the Indy 500 Pace Car" hit Facebook on April 8. As of last Wednesday night, the group only had 38 members. That same evening, two people mentioned it on twitter.
"From 38 at say 6 p.m. on Wednesday until I finally went to bed Wednesday night it had jumped to 300 and some," Wallack said.
By Friday, there were 1,100 members.By Tuesday afternoon, more than 5,500 and growing.
"It's almost become a community. It's not just people hitting the like button and going away," Wallack said.
Many people share why they don't want Trump behind the wheel, and they've started to take action contacting race sponsors like IZOD and Chevrolet. Motor Speedway officials said they're listening and taking every concern into consideration.
"We're going to continue to monitor the situation and then make a decision if there's a decision to be made at a later time," Speedway spokesperson Doug Boles said.
Wallack and his followers said they hope for change, but if not they have a plan for race day.
"In racing when a driver shouldn't be on the track we waive a black flag, so the thought has come along, well, if Donald Trump comes by in a pace car how many black flags can be waving?"
>Like appearing on Oprah, Letterman, or the view.
Nope, those are talk shows. Not the same as being given the pace car at Indy. Of course the people who decide such things at Indy are free to do what they want, I’m just saying that if I was in on the decision I would advise against it.
You're confusing NASCAR with Indycar fans - different crowd entirely although neither fans support Obama. Guaranteed the people singing on to this facebook page aren't Indy 500 fans so much as Obama fans.
What did Trump do? Ask questions? What’s with trying to ban him? Doesn’t seem very tolerant.
I’m sure this group are REALLY die-hard race fans who BTW respec’ the POS in the White Hut....
He shouldn't be bumped for doing what WAS right!
Obama has NEVER proven his natural born citizenship. He still hasn't.
Silly Liberals!
Car racing fans are not Liberals, and they don’t like Obama.
Gotta hand it to Michael Wallack - he is unafraid to announce to the world that he's a whimpering bedwetter...
Of course he is a lawyer in Indianapolis:
Mr. Wallack began his legal career at Klineman Rose Wolf & Wallack before co-founding Wallack & Wallack and, in 1999, Wallack Somers & Haas.
Mr. Wallack served as President of the Indianapolis Jewish Community Relations Council from June 2008 through June 2010. Mr. Wallack presently serves as a director of Indiana Equality and is a past member of the Indianapolis Race Relations Leadership Network.
It seems this effort to bump Donald Trump from the Indy 500 probably originates from the President Obama Reelection Campaign. They and special interests particularly resent Trump calling Obamacare a disaster. Special interests are not much interested in whether unchecked medical and drug costs can at all be contained. Obamacare is like a runaway financial disaster train headed for bankrupting states and the Federal Government. Trump says America is crumbling from within. If you are really wealthy, you aren’t supposed to say that. So special interests will channel all manner of media propaganda to totally nullify the truth of anything and everything Trump has to say. Trump may not be perfect but he knows the value of finance and what factors spell financial disaster. Seems very mean spirited and petty but that and gross lying are their specialty.
Gimme a break. How many of the Bump Trump bunch do you think are really racen fans? Any?
