Mark Steyn: Sarah Palin a better king maker than GOP candidate
The Right Scoop ^ | May 13,2011

Posted on 05/13/2011 6:17:38 PM PDT by Hojczyk

Mark Steyn says he has a soft spot for Tim Pawlenty and believes he may be the last man standing to challenge Obama in 2012. He also says Newt won’t be President and that Trump isn’t conservative and trashes his demonization of China as the single source of all that ails us.

As for Mike Huckabee and Sarah Palin, Steyn says he wouldn’t advise them to enter the field of 2012 GOP candidates. He says Sarah Palin would make a better king-maker and Huckabee should stick with his successful Fox News show.

Mark Steyn lives in New Hampshire but I don’t know anything about his citizenship - you’re probably right. But he speaks with such an odd accent - sorta Australian with a hint of British and a hint of American. A man of the world!

Great point! I think that Pawlenty allowing the Coleman election to be stolen from right under his nose tells me all I need to know about him (TPaw). I can’t recall even a whimper from him about all the skulduggery in Minnesota which gave Franken his illicit seat. Bob

West is the only that can manage the helm - and get this ship turned around...

I am sick and afraid of the majority of republicans - including most Freepers - who are baa-baahing right along behind the bell wether sheep - ie., the same old pattern of letting the Establishment choose which candidates we will have to choose from...of “Whose ‘turn’ is it?”

I do not see ONE person in that lack luster list of candidates that stands much of a chance. THIS time, we need a candidate we can truly and enthusiastically get behind. The only good thing about mcPain’s run last time was that he introduced us to SARAH.

Time - LAST CHANCE - for WE The People to put up our candidate. We need to pick a proven leader, from OUTSIDE the career politicians.

Thank you for that clip!
I'll add it my cache.;o)

I truly believe that the time and the man have met...that God has a hand in bringing this man to this place at this time.

But God forces no one to do His Will or to take His Guidance. He presents - we must choose.

I pray we are wise enough to choose wisely.

If we don't, we're going to run aground. And, like Russia after the Revolution, it will take 80 years or more to see freedom's light again.

I agree. (Although I don’t think that’s how Steyn means it.)

I don’t see why Sarah Palin can’t do both: Be in the race and then, if she doesn’t win it, eventually be a KING(?)maker. (What’s up with the assumption that it’s inevitble that only a man can win? Why can’t she be a Queen maker?)

Everyone and anyone who wants to go for it should be welcomed.

I know, I usually don’t even bother. PDS goes both ways, and it’s not pretty at either end.

I agree. West is the only one (besides Sarah) that I really believe in. I know West has said he isn’t going to run, and I don’t know what Sarah will do, but I keep praying.

You say:” I know West has said he isn’t going to run”

Keep the faith ;o)

he hasn't said he won't run. He just isn't running YET.

He has NOT ruled it out. He realizes that there is a huge groundswell for him to run.

Listen to him here when he responds to an audience asking him to run. Listen carefully to the last sentence - and KEEP PRAYING ;o)

Elections are won by TAKING THE MIDDLE – not by pandering to it. Hell folks, the middle never knows what it wants – Conservatism or Socialism – they’ll vote for either one unless you give them a reason to vote CONSERVATIVE.

And to do that – you need a Conservative Candidate. Reagan wasn’t a squishy middle guy – yet he beat Carter and Mondale in friggin LANDSLIDES because Reagan WON THE MIDDLE OVER TO HIM. You don’t win the middle by trying to reflect THEIR views – they don’t know what their views are – that’s why they’re in the middle.

And frankly, Cain sounds okay, but there's too much not there, for him. Obama would murder him.

OK, it looks like folks are still sipping the media cool-aid. Obama can't even appear in front of school kids with a script and a teleprompter...Secondly, he would not be bound to libtard "speech codes" that made McStain sound like a bumbling eunuch in 2008. I think when conservatives get a chance to see and hear Cain (free of media filters of course) they will quickly see how strong he really is and how vain, condescending and just plain arrogant Obama is.

Get Obama away from his handlers and cheering section and is just another failed lawyer hawking 1940's FDR screeds. Also, Cain can effectively articulate conservative points and do it BETTER than Obama can hawk liberals. I think folks are mistaking the lackluster but sincere Ambassador Keyes. Keyes, does have conservatives principles and beliefs but cannot present them with charisma.

As you know it is in the interests of the libtards to paint Obama as a fantastic speaker and totally unbeatable. This is a lie that far to many pubbies (and sadly too many conservatives) have swallowed. They know that Obama is the second coming of Jimmy Carter (with out his knowledge or skill I might add), and must weaken the Republican field, regardless of who might be our future nominee. We need to focus on Obama's record and weaken his campaign. That will take real courage and leadership and the recognition that the election will be a down and dirty street fight. For too long we have had quaint gentlemen fighting by Marquis of Queensbury rules against Mike Tyson. Our guy needs to be a UFC/MMA scrapper that will challenge everything that comes out of the left and not passively agree with their points in the name of "bipartisanship"

The point was that she does not yet have enough political capital to get elected in a general election, IMO.

I like her, but even good conservatives like my parents balk at the idea of President Palin. That’s because she doesn’t have the clout to overcome the lies the entire Washington press corps touts about her daily.

Ok...so if it was Palin vs. Obama....U and your parents would vote for Obama??....

If she runs...U Hand-wringers will just have to stay in the truck...The real conservatives will do the heavy lifting..,,

Of course I’d vote for Palin. She was the only reason I was glad to vote for the McCain ticket.

“If she runs...U Hand-wringers will just have to stay in the truck...The real conservatives will do the heavy lifting..”

This is what I really hate about what is becoming of Freerepublic. If you don’t believe anything can be made of the birth certificate issue anymore, you’re not a “real conservative.” If you think Palin would have a hard time overcoming the overwhelming bias against her in the press and might have trouble in the general election, you’re not a “real conservative.” Soon it will be that if you don’t believe in young earth creationism, you aren’t a “real conservative.”

I’d hate to see this forum adopt the cult of personality, monolithic group-think apologist methods of which the democrats are so fond. I like debate, but this forum is becoming less about debate and more about sputtering out “Agree with me or you’re not a REAL CONSERVATIVE!”

For the record, I’d wet myself with joy if Jim Demint ran. THERE’S a conservative I could get behind. As it is, I might have to settle for someone like Cain in the near term. Not sure yet. I support Palin, but I doubt she can win given the fact that many Americans don’t take the time to educate themselves against the lies of the MSM.

[bb] Let her use her political capital to continue as a pundit. When she is proved right time after time <<<

Yeah right....lol...We don't need a President that's proved right time after time...We need a pundit....Geez.

Well-put and worth-repeating bump.

Your complaint is reasonable on the surface, but the problem for people on your side of the Sarah-stay-home fence is that you are allowing the very Red MSM to exercise a positive veto over anyone they don't like.

So far the MSM have used their "politics of personal destruction" to destroy Joe McCarthy (who was right, and the Venona documents proved it), Barry Goldwater, Richard Nixon, Newt Gingrich, and -- *IF* you accede to their calumnies -- Sarah Palin.

Can you name anyone on the Right that the 95%-communist, frequently homosexual bigots of the MSM would not strain every nerve to destroy in like manner?

Keep in mind that their power is fading -- and their microphones rusting away in their hands -- as the People begin to sense what is being done to them by these Judas servants.
