MOSCOW Russias most prominent gay rights activist says Moscow City Hall has banned a gay rights rally on the basis it might provoke civil unrest.
Nikolai Alexeyev told The Associated Press on Tuesday he had received a letter from the deputy mayor saying the rally planned for May 28th near the Kremlin had been outlawed. Alexeyev said this was the sixth time authorities had refused the request for a rally, and that activists would continue their tradition of defying the ban.
Alexeyevs gayrussia.eu website quoted the authorities letter as saying allowing the demonstration could cause a wave of protests that could grow into mass violations of public order.

Gay Russia? Ewwww!
Funny to look at the new Roosky cops’ attire. They have arm bands that read HOMO in a mirror.
This looks like typical biker cheesecake.
You mean the Russians don’t want their children to see fags tongue kissing in the streets? How un-progressive of them.
Well, I might actually have a better impression of them had they had less exposure, dressed up in business suits, etc. I wonder if Moscow has seen what some of the pride parades look like here in the United States.
Russia is remarkably traditional. They believe in big families living as one, culture and learning, and hetero normal relations.
“Russia is traditionally discriminatory toward the gay community, with the resurgent Russian Orthodox Church and increasingly vocal ultranationalist factions its leading opponents.”
I wonder what the Communists did during their decades in power. Surely they were somehow better, right? Sometimes it does seem the media has a pretty short-term memory.
And we were worried about them charging through the Fulda Gap?
“Sir; recon reports the 33rd Guards Armored Division is approaching our flank.”
“Is the FSB wearing evening gowns and singing Judy Garland songs?”
“Sound the alarm! It’s the real thing!”
