Electrons carry data much faster. Electronic conferencing eliminates much of formerly necessary business travel. And it’s a big time and cost efficiency.

I spend a LOT of time in meetings and teleconferences (with folks from other companies) and agree with you - partly. There is no substitute for face-to-face meetings in a number of situations, including committee kickoffs, though a lot of (but not all) subsequent work can be done via teleconferencing.

And as regards my being in Germany last week, well, for just one point data rates over a 5000+ mile long RS-485 network are going to be rather low. And that's after you've laid the cable between Seattle and Germany...
