Obama 'disrespected' Israel, threw it 'under the bus,' says Romney By Michael O'Brien - 05/19/11 03:29 PM ET

President Obama "disrespected" Israel and threw it "under the bus" in a wide-ranging speech on the Middle East on Thursday, GOP presidential contender Mitt Romney charged.

Romney strongly criticized Obama, who, in a speech at the State Department, called for Israel to return to its border lines as drawn before the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.

"President Obama has thrown Israel under the bus. He has disrespected Israel and undermined its ability to negotiate peace," Romney said in a statement.

"He has also violated a first principle of American foreign policy, which is to stand firm by our friends," added the former Massachusetts governor.

Romney led Republicans in criticizing the Obama speech, which touched on broader themes throughout the Middle East, including the popular movements for democratization, from Egypt to Yemen, during the first half of the year.

"President Obama has betrayed Israel and made a grievous mistake by suggesting borders of Israel go back to pre-1967 borders. This is an outrage to peace, sovereignty of Israel, and a stable Middle East," former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R), a 2008 Republican presidential candidate who's been a staunch supporter of Israel, said in a statement.

Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.), meanwhile, suggested Obama's stance could represent "the beginning of the end as we know it for the Jewish state."

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, another Republican presidential candidate, declined to comment on the Obama speech during an appearance on the Rush Limbaugh radio show this afternoon, explaining that he hadn't yet been able to listen to the speech or digest its contents.

The political battle lines emerged quickly on Thursday afternoon after Obama's speech, especially after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the president's call for a return to 1967 borders.

Netanyahu will meet with Obama on Friday at the White House, and he'll stay in Washington over the weekend before addressing the AIPAC conference Monday and a joint meeting of Congress on Tuesday.

Obama 'disrespected' Israel, threw it 'under the bus,' says Romney

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
...Newt Gingrich, another Republican presidential candidate, declined to comment on the Obama speech during an appearance on the Rush Limbaugh radio show this afternoon ...

Once burned, twice shy. He's going to flinch every time someone asks him a question
Newt declined comment because he didn't hear the speech and had just concluded a campaign appearance when Rush asked him less than 10 minutes after Obama's presser. Gingrich didn't flinch, he said he hadn't heard the speech yet and would coment once he had. Maybe you should reserve your comments until you know what Gingrich did say - Rush went after him with vigor over recent comments and Newt explained himself and the slanted media spin quit well imho, ymmv.

Netanyahu should cancle the meeting tomorrow and tell Obama to pound sand. Rush got this right today. By not addressing the issue of the so-called 'Palestinian right of return' it's all a non-starter and Obama knows it. Israel won't accept any deal that includes the Palestinian "right of return" and the Arabs will accept no deals without it. Check and mate. Obama is wasting time and diverting media attention again. As Glenn Beck says so often, "Watch the other hand" people. Then again - Beck predicted this speech months ago, the only thing transparent in this administration is its agenda.

At least over the last 4 years, Romney has apparently been a reasonably strong supporter of Israel. If I have to give him kudos on this ONE THING I will. However he is SOOOO wrong on so many other things he is probably running about 1000 oh $h!ts to this one attaboy.

Oops, I forgot Bachman! My fault!

Ok, so it is Palin first, Bachman second and then, really, I am not excited at all. I used to think the world of Santorum, I cried reading about the time he proclaimed in the Senate "it is not a choice, it is a baby" and a baby among the visitors started crying! But now it doesn't feel like the same Santorum. The rest just does not excite me, we need someone who can take on the Democratic party and the whole culture of death/liberalism. Someone with Reagan's magnetism and way of getting people to follow him.

Poor choice of terms. Obama isn't ‘disrespecting’ Israel - he obviously is seeking Israel’s destruction."

I would beg to differ on that... you see thugs, ganstas and mobsters use the term, "disrepect" often on the street, just before making a hit.

He is running around the White House like a rich master's poodle throwing low blows before the belt left and right...

I am picking terms in jive talk the brotha would undastand.

You can bring in the old tactics of ‘anti-mormon crap’ all you want...it doesn't take away from the fact of who Romney is and his point of reference.. in all decisions which he makes...which is why he waffles and flip-flops at the turn of any hat that tips his way. "I call on the President to reverse course and stand with Israel"

It will never happen... This so-called "arab spring" is an orchestrated event designed to move the middle east to an Iran dominated caliphate. Think about it... Which of the arab countries did Obama NOT at least speak out in favor of the protestors? Iran, and their puppet, Syria. It seems that the arab countries where Obama is in favor of the revolts were either somewhat inclined to work with the US, or relatively secular.

I think Obama, while not muslim, was brought up with muslim teachings, is trying to do his own "caliphate building."

Well he's not the only one! I do wonder what it will take and I'm afraid another hit on our country would be necessary....you know.."Wake the Sleeping Giant" sort of wake-up call.

Meanwhile the enemy slithers over every boundary of our states and our constitution once stood for...and...fills the offices of power and influence. A 'war' few care to see or know how to fight.

They said this "war" would not be won in the US by bullits from a gun...rather thru our government and laws...so far it's working and they are winning.

Additionally the internet is more and more being hacked by those who would not have us know the truth...videos which would be insightful or hacked "no access" one after the other etc.....More and more control is being shaped and shifted...and it's not going to stop until all is in place.

I can only hope and pray BIBI will stand against all that he now faces and knows that the American people do not oppose him nor Israel.

Look for Netanyahu to tell him the facts of life in their private meeting. If Obama fails to reverse course, info will begin to surface that will confirm all the suspected wrong-doings, illegal and corrupt activities of this administration.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, another Republican presidential candidate, declined to comment on the Obama speech during an appearance on the Rush Limbaugh radio show this afternoon,”

Newt has gone so far to the left that he might actually agree with Obama. Newt was quick enough to throw harsh words at Tea Party candidates, quick to throw harsh words at Paul Ryan, but ask him to comment on something as outrageous as this when it concerns Obama and Newt suddenly gets shy. One MORE reason Newt is NOT the man for the job!

In this instance, Romney used an apt term, whether it was his full intention or not.

Obama often displays the instincts of a street thug. “I won, you lost.” “They’ll (Republicans) have to get in the back of the bus.” Returning the Winston Churchill bust, and numerous, in-your-face statements that sound more like a street thug than a president of the US.

And his one-upmanship and attempt to undercut Netanyahu with this speech, the day before Netanyah is to arrive in the US, is just more example of Obama acting on his street thug instincts instead of acting diplomatically and like a president of the US.

Obama ‘dissed’ Netanyahu today and Romney described Obama’s behavior accurately.

"President Obama has thrown Israel under the bus. He has disrespected Israel and undermined its ability to negotiate peace," Romney said in a statement.
Israel can't negotiate peace because there's no one with whom to negotiate. Israel's evolving response is to insist on preconditions, just as the koranimals. They should also remind everyone that no progress has been made as a consequence of the three no's of the Khartoum declaration of 1967:
  1. No peace with Israel
  2. No recognition of Israel
  3. No negotiations with Israel

Why wouldn’t he be elected? I say he cuts Obama’s black support by 1/3rd. He’ll take well over half of the independants and 60 + percent of male voters. IMHO (I could be wrong) he will beat Obama 54/45 with one percent divided amongst the various and insignificant minor parties.

It will be a complete and total repudiation of Obama. Not just Obama but the voters of this nation continue to state, poll after poll that they are sick of business as usual in D.C. so do you elect a career politician or do you elect a businessman with a reputation for getting things done?

It will be a walk.

What an ignoramous Romney is

He needs to read the Christian Bible

They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. “Peace, peace,” they say, when there is no peace. Jeremiah 8:11

My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and utter lying divinations. They will not belong to the council of my people or be listed in the records of the house of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Sovereign LORD. Because they lead my people astray, saying, “Peace,” when there is no peace, and because, when a flimsy wall is built, they cover it with whitewash, Ezekiel 13:9, 10

For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night. When people are saying, “Everything is peaceful and secure,” then disaster will fall on them as suddenly as a pregnant woman’s labor pains begin. And there will be no escape. But you aren’t in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won’t be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief. 1 Thessalonians 5:3

Nope, Mitt got it totally right on this one. Obama again acted in a classless manner more appropriate to a street thug than a president of the US. When Romney said Obama "disrespected" Netanyahu, he answered in the same vein as Obama's behavior and thereby included a word link to how Obama acted, and often does act: like a street thug.

this should be Obama’s Neville Chamberlain moment but the media would never cover it.
Saying that the Israelis should just give up some land to the Islamofascists is just like the Slavs just giving up some land for the National Socialists. It’ll all lead to “peace in our day”..
I’m assuming that the good professor never learned about that seminal moment in world history because he was either too stoned, tweeked or was busy with the radicals to remember that appeasement never works.
