Herman Cain: To Know Him Is To Get Excited About Him
Dakota Voice ^ | May 20, 2011 | Bob Ellis

You’ve probably heard the same kind of establishment talk from the GOP mouthpieces that I’ve been hearing lately. Oh, there’s just nobody good out there. Oh, there’s just nobody exciting out there.

Hogwash!

This is the Republican establishment (read: RINO establishment) projecting their sentiments in the hopes that you, the rank and file Republican, will get the message and get with the program to back a liberal Republican like Mitt “RomneyCare” Romney. True, some of the RINOs like Mike Huckabee and Donald Trump are throwing in the towel before they got in the ring, and still others like Newt Gingrich are shooting themselves in the foot before they can unholster their guns. But there are still others floating around the edges out there, with some draft movements already under way.

The funny thing is, there is already a good candidate right out there in the forefront: Herman Cain. Sure, he doesn’t have RomneyCare Mitt’s name recognition or millions in fatcat backers, but he’s been exciting the conservative GOP base since the first GOP debate in South Carolina a couple of weeks ago. Within a few days of the debate, he had shot up to the #2 spot on Zogby’s national poll–not bad for a candidate the establishment called an “unknown” before the debate.

According to Gallup, Cain still lacks uniform name recognition among Republicans across the country…but where he is known, he is on fire.

Looking at Gallup’s “intensity” score, he’s #1 on the GOP charts and is 10 points higher than RomneyCare Mitt. His next closest competitor, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) is three points behind him.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve never been fond of the idea of allowing the “mainstream” media and the fatcat GOP establishment RINOs to pick my Republican primary candidate. Apparently some Republicans are cool with that, since they allowed it to happen in 2008.

Me? That just doesn’t cut it. You see, I come from a long line of Americans who believe in thinking for ourselves, making our own choices, and creating our own destiny. Frankly I don’t give a rip what the conventional wisdom thinks or says or does. I say we the people can see our candidate nominated…if we’ll only believe we can. If we adopt a defeatist attitude right out of the gate (and you know the one I’m talking about: “It’s already been decided” and “The big money’s calling the shots” and “The globalists are calling the shots” and all that), sure, it’ll never happen. But if we’ll take the time to look beyond the blather the candidates are putting out about themselves (never believe a word they say on the campaign trial–LOOK AT THEIR RECORD), then put our will behind promoting, donating to and volunteering to help a good candidate, we can make it happen.

There is still a lot of time left, and who knows who may enter the race. As much as I like Herman Cain, if Michele Bachmann gets in the race, I’ll have to reevaluate everything. But I’ll darn sure tell you one thing: I won’t be getting behind some slick RINO candidate because that’s what the establishment tells me “can win.”

How about you? Are you willing to go along with another RINO candidate like in 2008…and another GOP loser? I’m not. Are you willing to invest the time to do your homework to find a reliably good conservative candidate? Are you willing to then get behind that candidate and promote them to everyone you encounter? Are you willing to help them financially in any way you can? Are you willing to volunteer to help them get elected in any way you can?

If you’re not willing to do that stuff, then just give up now. Resign yourself to either throwing your lukewarm support behind whatever RINO the establishment presents to you…or to just staying home on election day and allowing the current Marxist president to have another four years of wrecking our great nation.

But if that’s not good enough for you, if you have the guts to insist on a real Republican, if you will accept nothing less than a president who will turn our ship of state away from the looming rocks, then let’s get busy right now.

I completely disagree with everyone who thinks Cain is unelectable. In fact, I really think he is the best candidate running.

I’d rather have a businessman who needs political advisors than a politician who needs business advisors, and I think at this point a lot of voters would tend to agree. We’ve had nothing but career politicians as President for the past two decades, and look at the mess we’re in.

He has the best communication skills going, except maybe for Palin, without the irritating voice she has when she gets excited during a speech. (I always try to imagine what it would be like to be with a woman who sounds like that when she’s angry at me, and Sarah’s voice often makes me wince.)

He makes great, articulate arguments from principle.

He is a plain speaker, which resonates heavily with voters these days.

He is absolutely race-card proof, which takes the biggest arrow out of the Democrats’ quiver.

He was a mathematician for the Navy Dept., which, along with his extraordinary business background, takes away another key Democrat talking point, which is that conservative candidates are dumb.

He will eat Obama’s lunch in any debate.

He is likeable, relaxed and yet completely professional.

I think once he builds a bit more momentum and name recognition among Republicans, he will pretty much be unstoppable in the primaries.

True, he has no foreign policy experience, but that complaint is made against every presidential candidate running against an incumbent. Besides, unlike Obama, Cain’s ultimate foreign policy goals, however his policies may evolve, are 100% focused on preserving America’s best interests and national sovereignty.

Actually, for these reasons, I think he is by far the most electable of Republican candidates.

This could be the right time for Herman Cain. I’m willing to listen, and see what he has.

I wish we didn’t have to take note, but there is an added benefit that Herman Cain can engage Obama on issues, and Obama’s failures without being called a racist.

None of the current crop of candidates inspires me... I’ll be watching Mr. Cain.

Herman Cain’s statement on Obama’s Speech. (posted to his facebook yesterday):

“While stability & peace are at the forefront of America’s interests in the Middle East, we must be mindful that Israel remains our steadfast ally. Policy &resolutions that would upset the delicate balance in the region should be weighed & measured against the overall safety of everyone in the region & not appease those who seek to deceive & manipulate the process.”

During an interview with Erik Erickson last night, Mr. Cain expounded more on his position, and added “If you mess with Israel, you mess with the US.”

Right now, If no avowed conservatives enter the race, I will vote for Herman Cain. He is the real deal. Honest patriotic, pro-american. Im not sure what ethnic origin he is (democrats care about that stuff!) But he’s got my vote.

The first time I heard Cain on the radio I couldn’t believe he was black. When I realized it I was really proud of him. I liked Mike Steele for a while there, but he doesn’t have the backbone that Cain has. It certainly would make for an interesting campaign to see him go up against our current Dear Leader. The race card would be GONE from the deck. Wouldn’t THAT be sweet? My heart is still with Sarah Palin, but with her family, et al, she may not run and I would not blame her.

I agree with you. The whole thing about what makes someone “electable” has always been a myth to some degree - but now more than ever. Cain’s impact on people when they meet or see him plus the social media plus the total disgust with anyone who is in office now levels the playing field to some degree. Plus, he has a tea party following almost everywhere, something that a lot of folks don’t realize - but these are the people who will donate, talk, post in the net, put up signs, etc.

Is he a bit of a long shot? Yes, but much SHORTER SHOT than he was just three weeks ago. Its along process, and he could become a front runner or fade away or something in between in the next few months. But unelectable? No, that’s not necessarily the case.

This doesn't surprise me - my impression (and from what i gather from others), Mrs. Cain is a sweet and somewhat timid lady. :) The two have been married 46 years.

Herman Cain: My wife will not be traditional ‘campaign wife’

We know all about Mrs. Romney, Mrs. Gingrich and Mr. Palin. But what about Mrs. Cain?

That would be the wife of Herman Cain, the former Godfathers Pizza executive who is exploring a Republican run for the White House in 2012.

“Don’t expect the traditional amount of exposure you normally get from a campaign wife,” Cain said about his wife, Gloria. “She’s not going to do that.”

Cain, a charismatic orator known for riling up crowds at Tea Party events, said his wife of almost 43 years doesn’t desire to be the center of attention on stage or on TV.

I was raised in Atlanta, Georgia by loving and hardworking parents. We grew up poor, but we grew up happy. Things weren’t always easy, but my mom and dad knew that if they kept their faith in God, faith in themselves and their faith in the greatest country in the world, they, too, could achieve their American Dream.

That dream, we discovered, was for my parents to own their own home and watch their two sons graduate from college. Those dreams required that my father work three jobs to support our family.

The first dream was realized in a brick home on Albert Street. I can still recall the excitement of the day, as he surprised us—even my mother—when he drove us to our new home.

Their second dream was realized when I proudly accepted my degree in mathematics from Morehouse College in 1967 and my brother graduated from Morris Brown College. Both of my father’s American Dreams were achieved. Now, I set off to achieve mine.

One year after graduating, I married the love of my life, Gloria. And together, we started our journey to achieve our Dreams. This meant relocating to Indiana where I would begin my Master’s degree program at Purdue University, while working full-time as a mathematician at the Department of the Navy.

After earning my Master’s degree and six years working for the Department of the Navy, we returned home to Atlanta, where I began to climb the corporate ladder with the Coca-Cola Company. I faced challenges, but I always remembered the values my parents taught me. With enough faith and determination, I knew I could go as high in corporate America as I desired.

I enjoyed a successful career at the Coca-Cola Company and later moved to the Pillsbury Company. Within a short period, I rose to the position of Vice President. When I got there, I thought I had already achieved my American Dream on the 31st floor of the new Pillsbury Corporate Headquarters with a corner office. But I quickly realized I wanted something more.

I resigned my position and started on another path- the restaurant industry. I knew that in order to be successful, I had to start from “the ground up.” This meant broiling hamburgers at Pillsbury’s Burger King division. After nine months of a grueling restaurant experience, I was assigned to lead a low performing region of 450 Burger King restaurants. Within three years, we became the best-performing region in the U.S.

I could have been content with my executive role with one of America’s biggest corporations. Instead, after consulting with my wife, we decided to take one of the biggest risks of our marriage: picking up our young family, relocating yet again and accepting the call to become CEO and President of Godfather’s Pizza, a company teetering on the edge of bankruptcy.

In 14 months, we turned the company around and returned it to profitability, and I ultimately led my management team to a buyout of Godfather’s Pizza. The company never went bankrupt, and today, there are still hundreds of locations across the U.S.

My success at turning around Godfather’s got the attention of fellow restaurateurs around the nation who invited me to join the Board of Directors of the National Restaurant Association and later elected me its chairman. In 1996, they retained me as the full-time President and the CEO of the National Restaurant Association, working on behalf of thousands of small businesses and entrepreneurs.

In 1994, as chairman of the National Restaurant Association, I had the opportunity to speak with President Clinton during a nationally televised town hall meeting. Here, I challenged the President regarding the impact on businesses if his health care overhaul proposal were passed.

President Clinton attempted to assure me and the millions of viewers watching at home that his legislation would not harm American business owners and their employees.

I was skeptical. “Quite honestly Mr. President, your calculations are incorrect,” I said. “In the competitive marketplace, it simply doesn’t work that way.”

Through these and other appearances on behalf of the National Restaurant Association, I began working with business leaders across all sectors of the American economy. This led to my acceptance of a position on the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, and I was subsequently elected their chairman.

Today, I host a radio talk show, “The Herman Cain Show,” on Atlanta’s WSB 750 AM/ 95.5 FM. I serve as a regular contributor on several broadcast networks and as a keynote speaker at conferences and events around the nation.

Despite the many professional commitments of my life, I continued to enjoy most the time spent with family and friends. As my children got married and had their own children, I knew that I had an extraordinary obligation to do what I could to make this a safe and prosperous nation for them. The paramount joys in my life are my wife, Gloria, our children and our grandchildren.

I am grateful for the many professional successes I have enjoyed. I am grateful for the steadfast loyalty and unwavering love of my family and friends. And I am grateful for this country that is so exceptional that I was afforded the opportunity to achieve my American Dreams.

I’m not done yet!

Herman Cain is the man and is the only one I see now who can beat Obama, as long as he does not include Palin as his vp.

The realistic and true Conservatives left in America who can think for themselves will support guys like Cain and stay away from pushing Palin, or they will have another 4 years of Obama, I guarantee it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZDkacOveF0

Nobody thought someone like Obama could win either but he did, or a bodybuilder/action film star be voted in as a governor of California either, but he did.

Cain is far beyond either of them put together, he CAN win, believe it, and support it.

Oh and don’t support people who want to refer to him as the pizza king, the word pizza has a derogatory low class association that will be used to mock him every day in the media if you remind them of him and pizza, I guarantee it, if you must refer to him refer to him as

“The Godfather Himself”!!!!

People want someone who they can trust, someone who they can believe means what he says and lives what he believes.

Read the story of Art Williams (”All you can do is all you can do”) for an example of how people will support you and work with you if you make them believe in you, and a shared dream.
