For First Time, Majority of Americans Support Gay Marriage
Fox News ^ | May 22, 2011

A recent Gallup poll shows 53 percent of Americans support making gay marriage legal, Reuters reports.

The poll shows a significant change in mood on the issue from a year ago, when an equal majority opposed same-sex matrimony.

The latest Gallup findings, Reuters reports, are in line with two earlier national polls this spring that show support for legally recognized gay marriage has gained a newfound majority among Americans.

According to Gallup, Democrats and political independents accounted for the entire shift in its survey compared to last year, when only 44 percent of all respondents favored gay marriage, while 53 percent were opposed.

The percentage of Republicans favoring same-sex matrimony held steady at 28 percent.

While same-sex marriage remains a highly controversial issue, homosexual couples have won the right to legally wed in five states – Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire and Iowa. The District of Columbia has also approved same-sex marriage.

"The trend toward marriage equality is undeniable -- and irreversible," Joe Solmonese, president of the gay rights group Human Rights Campaign, said in a statement.

Maggie Gallagher, chairman of the National Organization for Marriage, said the poll shows her fellow opponents of gay matrimony have been "shamed" into silence.

Twenty-nine states have adopted constitutional amendments restricting marriage as between a man and a woman, and 12 other states have passed laws to that effect, according to the Human Rights Campaign.

Get government out of the marriage business. Then it is between the queers and their “clergy.”

I’ll stand against the destruction of respect for the natural law premises of this free republic even if I’m the last one willing to do so.

That being said, I don’t believe this poll for a minute.

This could be turned around in an instant if we said, “Ok. People are no longer allowed to live together UNLESS they are married. This inclues heterosexuals, homosexuals and whatever other combinations might crop up. Gays MUST marry if they are to be together.” SUDDENLY they’d want the opposite. It seems that people simply want to do what they think mainstream society disapproves of. The way these norms change is through parents who don’t want to seem “old fashioned” to their teens and college kids. SO they change their own values. Not that long ago it was trashy to “live together” and only people an the edges did it. Now it has become the new normal. As long as people are afraid to appear old fashioned or just old the decline in values will continue. People aren’t willing to stand up for and expound on the reasons for the existing norms.

How come every state that puts it to a vote it loses

The ugly truth? The only advantage conservatives have is that we vote in much higher numbers. The day liberals learn to get the apolitical, and they are truly the majority to the polls we'll never see another conservative in office again.

I am not an American, but if I were I'd say - This is America! People are free to do what they want here! The f*ggots are all adults. Why do you want to deny them the freedom that America was built on?

I believe the results because the younger generation is being influenced by Hollywood and academia and their parents have not been able to counteract that.

It loses every time it’s put to a vote. Polls are B.S.

You are correct . Great observation.

The gay agenda has NEVER been about rights they intend to GAIN.

It has always been about rights they want to DEPRIVE the rest of us of: to uphold righteousness without being labeled as HATERS.

They’re winning.

If this poll is bullshit today (which I believe it to be), it’s only a matter of time before it’s truth. Our liberal education system will assure it.

And our grandchildren will be indoctrinated that the GENDER of their chosen mate should be of no consideration or consequence. A sad direction of civilization which can be laid squarely at the feet of CHRISTIAN MEN WHO STOOD BY WATCHING AND DID NOTHING.

31 of 31 states that held referendum and let the people decide soundly rejected perverted marriage. Even the uber-liberal peoples socialist utopia of california.. twice.

Thats why they need queer friendly libtard legislators and leftist judges to foist this depravity on us.

Put it to a vote by the people of each state and see how many “favor” perversion..

i>Is there anything the vile media cannot convince the People about?

They can never convince the People to vote for, for President, a Marxist who was born in Africa, who loves our enemies and despises our allies, and whose primary motivation is the destruction of the capitalist, free market system in America. Oh, wait...
