This could be turned around in an instant if we said, “Ok. People are no longer allowed to live together UNLESS they are married. This inclues heterosexuals, homosexuals and whatever other combinations might crop up. Gays MUST marry if they are to be together.” SUDDENLY they’d want the opposite. It seems that people simply want to do what they think mainstream society disapproves of. The way these norms change is through parents who don’t want to seem “old fashioned” to their teens and college kids. SO they change their own values. Not that long ago it was trashy to “live together” and only people an the edges did it. Now it has become the new normal. As long as people are afraid to appear old fashioned or just old the decline in values will continue. People aren’t willing to stand up for and expound on the reasons for the existing norms.

You know, that’s actually a good thought. It’s also correct according to religion, too, as a matter of fact.
