Oh and BTW from what I understand the 53 tornado ended just about at my family’s farm in Southborough MA, so while it was an F4, it might have been petering out by then.
Still, it lives on in family lore.
Tornado watch all day over the entire state of New Hampshire...never saw so much as a drop of rain...zzzzzzzzz.
I pray Six Flags in Agawam was spared.
That film footage is slightly wrong, That is West Springfield Along Roue 5 by the Train Bridge than it hit the Memorial Bridge and looked like it headed across the river to Springfield. Ya it's an old stomping ground, know it well...
I can't remember If I just went 2nd shift CAD, or was carpooling with a bunch of guys on 1st, In Windsor. But I got to go home through the devistation. The sky turned greenish purple. It was frightening. The Bradley Air Museum's outdoor display area planes were tossed like toys. The story of a restored Corvette that was not thrown but was literally sand-blasted and all paint was removed. The old trees just lifted up and tossed like toys nto to mention all the homes just gone.
It will give you a healthy respect for tornados....
Lived in Fairfield County (SW CT) back then & remember that tornado ... very unusual. Memorial Bridge in Springfield, MA played a prominent role in the 1975 movie 'The Reincarnation of Peter Proud'. Interesting movie ... check it out.
Worcester had a bad tornado 40 or so years ago. It hit downtown at 5 o’clock in the afternoon on a weekday. I think a lot of people were killed.

The top pic is just a truck. The bottom one is a semi truck (no bed/box) pulling a trailer. Or a tractor trailer.
Still watching local news channels. Photo phones sure have changed reporting; daytime photos are still coming in. Just amazing.
I’m mostly hearing stories, no photos, about MOnson MA. It might seem like Joplin in daylight.
I was stuck in traffic on 91 North when the tornado came across the river into Springfield from West Springfield. (you can see the vehicles on the highway in the last part of the video) Tornado went directly over my truck. Banged up the truck a bit but did not leave the ground. Considering the damage on West Springfield and in down town Springfield, it must of skipped up a little.
Top one is a Box Truck, used to own one with a lift on the back.
A “Semi” is a semi tractor-semi trailer. I used to break and load for Carstensen Freight Lines in the summers when I was in college. The Spotter even let me weigh a load one time before I graduated (way back when), he even let me back it up to park it.
I hope you didn’t expect me to start arguing with you. I used to own a semi when I was a young fella. Ran it coast to coast for a few years too.
