Christian conservatives looking to put a Republican in the White House heard a lot about the economy on Friday in a sign that their social issues may take a back seat in 2012.
Many political speakers at the Faith and Freedom Coalition, including Republican White House hopefuls, emphasized jobs, debt and deficits...
In contrast to some previous presidential campaigns, social issues like gay marriage and abortion have not been prominent topics for Republicans hopefuls seeking to replace President Barack Obama in next year's election.
The weakness of the economy has triggered a debate within the Republican Party about whether conservatives should call a "truce" on social questions.
The idea is that Republicans would have a better chance at victory in 2012 if they rally around economic issues....

Re-instate the original interpretation of the Constitution...or perish. Of course that won’t happen, so prepare for the coming collapse.
Who spoke? And who is this group?
No, it's not JUST the economy, the overall most important issue is "It's the Constitution Stupid!"
The economy and the other issues are subordinate to reclaiming the Constitution and the Republic. If we get back onto the right Constitutional path the other issues will follow.
FUBO & FAD
The SOCIAL CONSERVATIVES do not disagree with the jobs and financial issues. The ANTISOCIAL crowd do.
Frankly, we can't let the Libertarian faction take over the Republican party.
Al-Reuters trying to start a fight in the enemy camp.
Social issues *always” take a back seat; social and Christian conservatives are always taken for granted by the GOP.
And there it is.
The social cons who wanted to buy off seniors while waging wars with no means to pay form them save for run up the debt have done a real boffo job, no?
Social Conservatism works very well with a smaller, cheaper government. Less intrusion, less federal power, less spending.
Let the states be either moral or immoral. We will see who benefits. But the one-size-fits-all Liberal morality of Big Government needs to end.
When looking at the big picture, I don’t think social issues are that important to governments.
The libertarians don't really even care if the US does well. All they care is that global business survives. If that means devaluing the dollar and allowing illegal aliens in to lower wages and regulation compliance then so be it.
There are good constitutional and conservative ways to kick start the economy, and there are short-sighted infantile libertarian ways to support global corporate profits over US economic success.
“Al-Reuters trying to start a fight in the enemy camp.”
Bingo.
We need to be prepared for more of the same and try to hang together to avoid hanging separately.
Translation:
Vote for ROMNEY! Liberalism is the only way we can win!
No thanks, If we’re going to go liberal I’ll just stay home on election day, I will not eschew my principles and vote for any liberal just because they have a (R) by their name.. Conservative or nothing.
RINOS begone!!
RINOS begone!!
I live in north Texas. In this area even many churches that were small and struggling before are having to have building programs now.
A reduced circumstance results in time for introspection, which often brings people to God. For those focused on eternity, hard times in the temporal realm help lead others to eternal salvation.
The dose the US is getting has birthed the tea party movement, and the longer the socialists carry out their job and freedom destroying agenda the more people they will lose forever.
Communism, when it gets to this point always has to consolidate its gains in bloody purges of it enemies or be set back generations. Much of the Christian right would rather fight a civil war as the founding fathers did than compromise.
Without a moral foundation spending can not be reigned in any way.

Morals are kinda an important things. Kinda goes together. I say bullcrapola. You can do both and need to do both.
You are correct. Social issues always have taken a back seat, but this time we should put the social issues in front. Too bad GOP elites!
The economic issues can be addressed at the same time, but we should start with bringing morals back into our country.
Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachmann both scare the elites (both sides) because of their strong family/social stances.
Abortion has done more harm to our country than most people understand or are willing to admit to. Time to put God back in the schools and end the killing of the most innocent of God’s children.
Nailed it.
I think you are confused.
Retread RINO zot!
wasn’t that the john mccain mantra in 2008 and bob doles in 1996, how did that work out for us?
FR is pro-life, pro-family, pro-liberty. Don’t like it, leave. Continue fighting against us on our bedrock principles and you will be shown the door!
That is exactly what Karl Marx said.
You can not have a viable government run on moral relativism. It is what we have been doing since Oliver Wendell Holmes.
You need Universal Truth for unity and for economy to work. Virtue is essential for a free country....non virtuous behavior always creates a need for government interference. Non-virtuous behavior always destroys other’s freedom.
Actually, Social issues are every bit as important as economic issues....to think you do not understand the writings of Gramsci and Horkheimer, Adorno and Marcuse... They understood the flaw in Marx—that they needed to undermine the social institutions to cause revolution....economics didn’t do it during the great depression and after WWII much to Lenin’s surprise.
Kill “under God” and destroy the intent of our Constitution based specifically on Natural Law Theory and God’s Law and you destroy the foundation which made this country’s greatness possible. Unity-—to one set of rules...God’s. No not allah’s rules, not atheist rules.....but God’s based on God’s design of the universe...where “cause and effect” creates logic and reason in the Baconian/Newtonian methods which got us to the moon....In other words—our Constitution worked for years, unlike any other method and in great contrast to atheist states.
.The very thing that is destroying our economic freedom IS the “social issues” which have allowed government to grab the power from the masses (for the “good” of the children.
Is maintaining our territorial integrity by enforcing immigration law a “social” issue?
See ya!
You gave him both barrels Jim. Good shooting.
The Constitution is the USA. Conservative or tea party candidates have to focus on getting back to our Constitution. Freedom uber alles, and every other issue follows suit. Explain to Americans how conservative, Constitutional ideals help everyone of every stripe, and create a free economy that encourages business. Help localities realize that their high taxes and their insane regulations are hurting local economies. Remind people that America is for Americans and welcome guests and immigrants. No one else belongs here, just as the local homeless don’t belong in your house unless you want them there.
The media wants us to nominate a POS like Romney.
Which media outlet are you associated with?
Much of the problems created by liberal social policy will be curtailed by eliminating the deficits and reducing the debt.
This would be the death knell of the GOP.
If you can’t fight for the life of a child at the same time as you fight for your pocketbook, you ain’t worth crap!
Furthermore, the right to life is enshrined in the statement, “Pursuit of LIFE, liberty, and happiness”.
Get over it Libertarians, your approach is doomed to fail.
Both Economic and Social issues have to be attacked at the same time, it’s the Reagan model, it’s been proven to work, and those pushing a purely economic model are our enemies, not our friends.
Excellent explanation!
Who you calling stupid, Stupid? IATZ
“[T]heir social issues may take a back seat in 2012.”
When do they not? Meanwhile, the unattended social decay keeps letting the nation rot and slump to the left.
Obama is not Roosevelt.
The economy is going to continue to go down because either by design or incompetence this administration is choosing to do everything that will assure it will go down.
The great experiment in socialism is coming to an end. The whole of western world has been a laboratory for testing the elites ides of utopia. And this ideal of utopia is a failure.
In the 1930s many American did not even know President Roosevelt was confined to a wheelchair, the media hid this fact from the nation. They also hid the true effect his policies were having on the nation. The great depression was made worse by Roosevelt and his policies and only WWII pulled the nation out.
Obama is not Roosevelt and the media is not going to be able to save him.
I will state right now, on the record, that any Republican can and will beat Obama in 2012, regardless of how liberal or how conservative they are.
The American people will be by the end of 2012 sick of this administration.
Of course I also believe it will be better if the Republican candidate is a conservative.

"Without God, there is no virtue, because there's no prompting of the conscience. Without God, we're mired in the material, that flat world that tells us only what the senses perceive. Without God, there is a coarsening of the society. And without God, democracy will not and cannot long endure. If we ever forget that we're one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under." ... Ronald Reagan
"Abraham Lincoln recognized that we could not survive as a free land when some men could decide that others were not fit to be free and should therefore be slaves. Likewise, we cannot survive as a free nation when some men decide that others are not fit to live and should be abandoned to abortion or infanticide. My Administration is dedicated to the preservation of America as a free land, and there is no cause more important for preserving that freedom than affirming the transcendent right to life of all human beings, the right without which no other rights have any meaning." ... Ronald Reagan
"Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." ... John Adams
It's Ronald Reagan's Three-Legged Stool of Conservatism ... Stupid.
Yes.
One other issue.....Postmodernism .....This idea that you can separate parts without regard to the whole is not new....and it is deeply flawed.
You can never separate economics from human nature. (you wouldnt have economic systems without humans) .
Morality is part of human nature and to ignore it when you are talking about human interactions is folly (and part of cultural Marxists way to destroy Western Civilization). Their analysisto destroy the economicsall you have to do is destroy virtueto do that you destroy Christianity and the natural family.
Quite easy....destroy responsible, self-sufficiency and family loyalty and safety nets....you completely destroy the system of self-rule. No responsibility for your actions and government has to pick up the slack.
Some of them will anyway. I still remember getting that lecture from some of them back when they were all ga-ga over Rick Warren.
Your mission statement does not address limited government principles nor fiscal conservatism which is somewhat telling, no? There is very little room around here for people who believe in those principles. You also appear to be cast in the George Bush’s model of conservatism and while that’s your choice it has proven to be an utter failure.
You have become increasingly childish (and as a parent I see the similarities) and petulant in how you deal with people here, some of whom have been posting for years. Tell you what, keep the $50 I sent you in your last beg-a-thon and we will call it even.
Feel free to “zot my account” and call me names on the way out, Jim. You can rant and pose for the suck ups around here who have elevated you to some special status that your ego and pride seem to adore. (And what does the Lord say about that?)
“Social conservatism” needs to be defined. I’m pro life and against gay marriage, but social conservatism can also be a very anti liberty philosophy if taken to an extreme. For example, why would I care if somebody wants to smoke a joint of marijuana within the privacy of their own home? Or why would I care if somebody wants to gamble their own money away on the internet? It doesn’t affect me in any way.
