As a Texan, do you think there is anything to the rumors of Perry being gay in such a way that could be used against him in the general election?

Do you mean the one that some stupid Daily KOS blogger tried to start back in 08 that was so ridiculous that even the KOS kiddies didn't buy it? One blogger with no posts suddenly jumped in saying that someone said that someone heard that his wife caught him with another guy- no evidence, no idea who it was who started it, and completely unbelievable, yet the story is still out there.

I would love it if some Texas FReepers chimed in with some insight as to whether Rick Perry is the real deal.

I have seen Perry trashed here on FR but that is par for the course these days.

Uh...that was the Texas Freepers...

“...would he select Bush brother Jeb as his VP?”

I doubt that. The Bush Family and Perry do not get along at all is how I understand it. W. endorsed Perry’s opponent twice.

Which, tea party v. establishment-wise is to Perry’s credit I venture.

I think we got it the first thousand times you’ve posted that. Is this just an automatic script you run via a macro that automatically puts this on every thread tagged for a specific candidate.

So you don’t think it could, fair or not, be used successfully against him?

The ratio of those indicating they want me to continue pointing out that Barry isn't a Natural Born Citizen is 75:1:15.

The “one” in the middle is our good Friend Lazamataz who asked to be the one and only “undecided.”

Gov. Perry is NOT my first choice for the GOP presidential candidate in 2012. My first choice would be Herman Cain or Sarah Palin. As a native Texan and a conservative, I am hesitant about voting for Perry. This is due to his stance on in-state tuition for the kids of illegals(why reward them for their parents’ crimes?), the Trans-Texas Corridor(stealing land from Texas citizens, giving it to a FOREIGN company to own and profit from?), and the HPV vaccine debacle(accusations that Perry business buddies in the pharmaceutical industry would profit from forced vaccination of Texas schoolgirls).

All that being said, though, if Perry is ultimately the GOP presidential candidate, I will vote for him. Not because I believe he is the best candidate but because he would be better than the Kenyan Marxist currently squatting in the White House. I am not so rigid an ideologue I would sit out the election because my choices were not conservative enough for my liking. That mindset is not only mentally defective, it is suicidal and damaging to the country.

Just one lone opinion from this Texan.

I think that ‘automatic script’ must be prevelant amongst several as you see the same things over and over. No wonder people with older equipment and dial up have problems.

Anyone can say anything on the internet, but when the rumor is so dumb even the KOS people don’t buy it (and they will buy almost anything against a Republican) you know it doesn’t have legs. Normally Perry is lambasted for not being ‘gay friendly’. The SPLC just trashed him for inviting pro-traditional marriage groups to the State prayer meeting. They libs can’t have it both ways.

I was wondering what that code was. At least by responding we know you aren’t just an automated script. Carry on. I won’t ask again.

It is not an auto-script, I post each one myself.

The Bushes (including Cheney) were actively supporting Kay Bailey, against Perry, in the primaries.

The Gardasil fiasco will have to be dealt with. From a philosophical conservative standpoint, it was a monumental mistake.

Since I never bought into a lot of the conspiratorial aspects of the Trans Texas Corridor, I didn't see at as any more than an infrastructure project overreach. Perry's grandiose tribute to himself.

But when stacked up against the competition, his baggage is easily more manageable than the others. And when more people find out about his story, he will easily soak up whatever Romney supporters are left within the Republican Party. Romney's doubling down on RomneyCare and AGW will give his few remaining defenders motivation to keep looking elsewhere.

I am inclined to believe that if Perry gets in, Palin will support and campaign for him. They have a close, working relationship.

Sarah doesn't think Perry is a "RINO" or she wouldn't have campaigned for him.

Oh, stop with that already. I told you the truth about that situation last night, yet you continue to insist that Sarah enthusiastically campaigned for Perry. NOT TRUE.

Sarah did ONE televised event for Perry. If you actually watched it, you would have seen how strained and awkward it was for both of them. Anyone with any sort of people skills could easily see that Perry and his people rigged the affair to thrust Sarah into a position of making some sort of grand endorsement. It was clear by the body language and other indicators that Sarah was there to simply give him her blessing - nothing else.

Sarah didn't have a choice. The Bush/Cheney camp was backing Senator Kaye Bailey Hutchison in that race, and were running non-stop commercials for her, around the clock. Texas is just too important to allow it to be turned over to the old guard establishment. Sarah had to do what she had to do, as she was the ONLY public figure who had the horsepower to stop them.

Perry may not be a RINO, but he's also not a reliable conservative. At best, he's a moderate Republican who will bend to the will of the people when they apply overwhelming pressure to him.

I’m a long ways from Texas politics and so I have no clue. But it certainly is not only consistent with outed Republicans (and preachers) in conservative states often to have been especially antigay in their rhetoric (as I believe Perry has been), but it is that supposed hypocrisy that liberals quote in going after them.

That doesn’t mean there’s enough true or false to the rumor for it to be used successfully against Perry. And I believe you’re saying there’s not enough for them to profitably take issue with.

You make a credible case for how I feel about Perry as well. Would I prefer Perry to TPaw, if it came down to that? I don’t know yet.
