I do not have the additional facts at hand, but I do recall that she was battling the GOP establishment.

There is much more to this than what the LA Times has printed.

“UniqueViews is a big Perry supporter.”

I think that is overstating it.

All I want is a reasonable conservative who can also beat Obama.

There are great conservatives, who have zero chance of beating Obama, then there are genuine RINOs (such as Romney), whom I don’t like AND couldn’t beat Obama anyway.

So far, — in my opinion, of course — Perry is a pretty good conservative, both fiscal and social and has an excellent chance of beating Obama. That is why I support him. I have a prediction — and of course I could be wrong — that Perry will run and Palin will announce she won’t and will endorse him.

Time will tell...

You still sound like a big Perry supporter to me. But that’s okay, I’m a big Palin supporter. And time will tell whether your prediction is right. (I can’t for anything see her going through that bus trip a week ago if she wasn’t planning to run.)

Did she raise the income taxes or sales taxes or simply the royalties on oil production. There should be royalties on our raw materials but not restrictions on production.

I believe the royalties are shared by the citizens who actually own the reserves.

Pray for America

If you research this issue, it is not a negative for Sarah. The GOP Corrupt Bastards Club was in the pocket of big oil and they had been screwing the land/oil owners [Alaskans] all along. Alaska is different from a lot of states. It’s constitution states that the mineral/oil belongs to the citizens.

We all knew for years the profit sharing Sarah advanced while Governor.

Tedious details of the obvious as far as I’m concerned.

Good post. It’s also important to remember that there is a proper role for government in managing the nations natural resources, which are in essence, owned by The People. It’s a fine line at times, but in Alaska, Gov. Palin acquitted herself well.

You’re right. Odds are this post and poster is a troll, posting a hit piece.

I was wrong on attributing something to Sarah Palin but the left tends to blow it out of proportion and fails to give credit where due.

One endearing aspect Palin brings to the table is her willingness, and exuberance, in taking on either party and big anything (government, business, labor) to represent her taxpaying constituents.

Having said that, the only way she can win is with tea party and grass root Republicans taking back our party over the objections of most of the leadership; and especially anyone connected with the DC crowd.

[But if this article would be about another R governor, FReepers would be jumping all over him/her, as “unacceptable RINO”.]

Nevada, where I live, gets most of its taxes from gaming and mining. There is no state income tax. By your criteria, we are socialists.

Perry has his issues too that crossed many conservatives wrong in TX ......TransCorridor is one and the HPV mandatory testing for girls issues if I recalled as well rubbed a lot of people.....

What Palin did was to rework the tax code, not raise taxes - it actually lowers when the price of oil drops to relieve the Oil Campanies

I have a prediction too. Palin will run and get the nomination and then select Perry as her Veep. Perry will make an excellent number two to Sarah Palin’s leadership.

Rick Perry may or may not run -- if I was forced to wager on it I would bet he would not -- but it will not make an iota of difference what Palin's decision will be IMO.

“This is an issue other States don’t have so I don’t think everyone has the full perspective on it.”

And to be clear, the natural resources belong to the people of the State of Alaska (the only state that is like that IIRC). But, the Federal Land above those resources (like ANWR) have been called off-limits by the Feds - something that Palin and the rest of the residents there are not too happy about.

You know by now that this is old news. Palin wrote about it in her first book ('Going Rogue'). I didn't have a problem with it then - or now. The oil companies were getting lots of highly profitable oil out of Alaska. Governor Palin demanded they pay more to the state - which she made sure was distributed to citizens of Alaska. The oil companies were also refusing to drill where they held long-term leases, using the leases as an untapped asset. Governor Palin managed to get the companies to agree to drill on the leased land by threatening to cancel the leases. The Alaska legislature went along and Alaskans benefited. No conservative likes any government entity raising taxes on productive businesses but this was not a liberal 'soak the rich' scheme, just an attempt for more equitable distribution of the huge profits made by the big oil companies on Alaska's natural resources (oil & natural gas). The oil companies didn't just roll over for it, either. It was a fight - and Governor Palin won, as did her constituents. She was doing her job. The oil companies didn't exactly go broke over it, either. This is why I hardly consider the situation as a negative for Sarah Palin. Had the oil companies been over-taxed and jobs lost or had Governor Palin been attempting to 'punish' the oil companies (for existing - as a liberal would do) that would be different. She wasn't and so, in my view, this is a whole lot of nothing.

The reason I am posting this, is to show that no conservative, is perfect, one can find something to criticize about anyone.

Great Post. Those on FR who are so quick to label someone as a RINO when there is a small violation of this or that litmus test would find it difficult to get along even among themselves. And then there are those whose support of a given candidate borders on idolatry who will not stand for the slightest criticism or even hint of criticism. For many I wonder if the freedom of speech is even in their personal copy of the Bill of Rights.

Well said. What baffles me is who Alaska just elected another Murky to the Senate. Sigh.

PS Love your tag, although I prefer Sig Sauers...

Why? Sarah did good. Hey she played with the big boys and won for her state. Business is business. And big oil was more than willing to take from Alaska all they could and shortchange the people, who own the oil.

If it was a business to business battle, Sarah, the winner, would have been heralded as a champion for her business.

I understand your initial reaction; when so many politicians who want to stick it to business, but playing with big oil is a whole another level of play, and the people of AK own their resources. It’s in their State Constitution.

What you dont seem to understand is that this is a win for Sarah Palin. As the Governor of Alaska, she was enforcing the State of Alaska’s Constitution. While many party elitists, RINOs and Rats ignore the Constitution of the US and of their own states.
Way to go Sarah!
