Giving Away the Farm--Obama admin is freely giving Russia sensitive info about missile defense
Foreign Policy ^ | JUNE 7, 2011 | JAMES WOOLSEY, REBECCAH HEINRICHS

Posted on 06/12/2011 7:05:50 AM PDT by Ooh-Ah

President Barack Obama's administration recently threatened to veto the defense budget, citing "serious concerns" over provisions that limit the U.S. missile defense know-how that the White House is permitted to share with Moscow. This is the sort of information that Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, in his earlier days, would have assigned his spies to steal. Through its single-minded pursuit of "resetting" relations with Russia, the Obama administration may simply be willing to hand over this information and, in doing so, weaken U.S. national security.

Only two days after issuing the veto threat -- and as Obama tried to warm Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to U.S. missile defense plans at the G-8 Summit in Deauville, France -- the House of Representatives passed the defense bill. It included the provision that the president's team finds so offensive: Section 1228 requires that no funds can be used to provide the Russian Federation with sensitive U.S. missile defense technology.

This act of congressional prudence did not come out of nowhere. The Senate debate over New START raised questions about what the Obama administration may have promised Moscow regarding U.S. missile defense plans. The debate stemmed from the treaty's preamble, which linked offensive and defensive weapons, and a Russian unilateral statement that stated ratification of the treaty was conditional on whether the United States made improvements to its missile defense systems. In a treaty about reducing offensive weapons, it was clear the Russians required the Obama administration to include U.S. defenses in the bargain.

With that issue still unresolved, Congress discovered that the administration has been working on a missile defense agreement with the Russians and that Moscow had requested that the United States share with it loads of sensitive U.S. missile defense technology and operational authority as part of that deal...

This will permit the Russians to defeat our missile defenses during a war.

Why is this not TREASON???

Maybe (.)bama should watch the recent HBO doc Too Big To Fail. One scene in it has the Chinese telling a US official we need to get our debt house in order as they had received a proposal from the Russian gov (Putin) to mutually dump all US debt in a way to bring down the US. Seems to me some country that inclined to bring down the US financially as they cannot do it physically is not one we should be giving away the defensive farm to.

BTW, unlike most HBO stuff, I fould this one fairly well on the mark with minimal leftist bias.

I’m sure there is a lot of Russian Lobbyist money being passed out on Capital Hill so this deal can be made. I mean, “what’s the big deal about a few secrets” versus a comfortable retirement for a Senator or Congressman???

Ping.

From the article: “The letter, spearheaded by Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), requested the administration provide the Senate with assurances that it will not share sensitive information with Moscow. The senators cited the problem that sharing this information with Russia poses in light of its history of espionage and technological cooperation with Iran and Syria.”

“Tehran is thumbing its nose at Washington and doubling down on its missile program.”

...the provision that the president's team finds so offensive: Section 1228 requires that no funds can be used to provide the Russian Federation with sensitive U.S. missile defense technology.

Moscow had requested that the United States share with it loads of sensitive U.S. missile defense technology and operational authority as part of that deal. In the administration's eagerness to please the Kremlin, it may just oblige.

the administration's consideration of granting to the Russians sensitive U.S. technology and "red button" authority to prevent the interception of incoming missiles headed for U.S. troops or allies. This would allow Russia to deny the United States the ability to intercept a missile Washington had determined to be a threat.

Could it be the regime is laying a trap for the next President in 2012? Have they taken the ‘playing politics’ to the democrat party’s treasonous end?

Knowing 0bama won’t be re-elected, they are setting the ‘world’ stage to bring the next leader of the free world to their knees.

The playing pieces:

0bama’s apologies to the world.
Regime’s involvement in the Arab Spring.
Recent revelations regarding African nations and involvement there.
Pakistan kicking out 2/3’s of the American traniners
Obama’s trip to India and outsourced job creation there.
Belize oil drilling.

Some legal rulings are based on past decisions. Letting Slimy Willy Klinton get away with this to China has set the legal precedent that it is not treason.

The Constitution says that treason is a capital offense.

Traitors should be executed.

If we do not elect a true reformer next year, this country is going to be preached a fiery gospel writ in burnished rows of steel. Sadly, watering the tree of liberty means introducing people to Jesus in the non-evangelical manner.

“Here’s hoping that the White House comes to its senses and stops trying to use a degradation in U.S. national security to purchase a Russian “reset.””

NOT THE POINT. The point is the intentional destruction of the power of our security over our lands, and our allies that has made America the most powerful Nation in history, and the subjugation of our peoples to elitism for the purpose of a NWO.

Eliminate the power of the United States, and they eliminate the defense of the entire free world as we know it. The enemies of freedom will quickly subjugate the entire World to their will. That is their goal as I see it.

Obama will not be happy as long as the United States can defend itself.

Unilateral disarmament (surrender to Communism) has been the goal of the radical American Left since the 1960s. Sadly Americans were dumbed-down enough to elect one of the most dedicated radicals as our President. Given a Senate majority filled with like-minded "Democratic Socialists," the rest of the story plays out seamlessly.

"Eliminate the power of the United States.........."

Don't you and the neocons mean "Eliminate the power of the United States to be the world hegemon".

You NeoCons pulled out all the stops to try to stop the passage of START last year but failed. So now you will try to legislatively preclude the prez, STATE, DOD, and Energy from using certain provisions to implement START, in this particular case, the technology exchanges.

Since foreign policy is the prerogative the Senate we will have to wait and see what happens there.

In the meantime the House GOP has some good veto bait.

"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves."

As pointed out in 28, which you responded to, they are all parts of the military aspects of our foreign policy.

There is a big picture. START starts with Reagan's SALT 3 that advanced as START by the Realists in Reagan's second term, passed by the Realists during GHW Bush. It expired while the NeoCons controlled GW Bush's foreign policy and they wouldn't renew it. When Obama was elected the Realists got the new START passed and now the NeoCons are trying to block implementation of the new START.

And what really has the NeoCons panties in a knot is that if and when START gets implemented, the next treaty will be the comprehensive test ban treaty.

Folks, this is treason just like when Clinton gave the Russians the technology to make their subs make less noise.

I think our Military/Indrustial Complex of companies want this information shared so that they have to come up with new ways to defend America against our own technology.

They dont make any profits if no one is fighting. Look at the cost of these new aircraft that our military is wanting to bring on line. The costs get higher and higher and no end is in sight.

Google/U-tube Eisenhower’s speech in 1959 where he warned us to get these people under control or they would ruin America.

They are doing exactly what Eisenhower said they would do!

America was warned 52 years ago and still we have done nothing to stop them. We have only made the problem worse.

I'll answer your question but I can't answer it the way you have framed it.

This article is written by NeoCons so it is mis-info. So you may want to frame it as "giving our defense assets to the Russians", but the actual language is "technology exchanges".

I understand that Free Republic is a NeoCon website and most here toe the NeoCon line. Those here that aren't NeoCons are usually Isolationists. But I am a pragmatic realist so I don't agree with NeoCons and Isolationists.

So last year I supported START with the "exchange" language and still do. Like wise all the prominent Realists gave support. And that included all the living republican ex Secretaries of State, to include Kissinger, Schultz, Baker, Powell, and Rice.

As for a test ban treaty we will have to wait and see, but I will note that the State Dept is claiming that, as it is written now, Kissinger, Schultz and Scowcroft have signed off.

What you and New Republic and Mother Jones and paleoPaulie and the paleopoopandscoops generally call "Neocons" have a real name: The Conservative Movement or Conservatives. NO ONE BUT NO ONE with two or more brain cells to rub together has ever thought of Kissinger, Schultz, Baker (either James or Howard), Powell, Scowcroft or Rice as actual conservatives. Elitist trash??? Definitely! Certainly not conservatives. They are liberal pseudoRepublicans and, when they support disarming the United States or rendering our nuclear arsenal toothless in the face of our enemies to promote their one world agenda, then they are traitors and should be dealt with accordingly with the maximum penalty available under law.

Their agenda reeks of evil. They have crippled the GOP Senate caucus by raising mountains of money to nominate internationalist trash to the Senate as "Republicans" and imagine (a desire for a steady diet of caviar, a love affair with baby-butchering, a lust for eugenics uber alles, their support for the "rights" of fudge-packers, their sashaying surrender monkey "foreign policy" and disarmament schemes and their purposeful impoverishment of most of America's population by sending their jobs anywhere but the USA) to be "realism."

Lawn tennis or tiddleywinks, anyone? I say! What a smashing good show!!!

Those philistine FReepers don't even want to fund Mr. Mapplethorpe's bullwhip up the wazoo photos!!! They are just not "realistic."

What you reference as "realism" is Alger Hiss, George McGovern, Bertrand Russell, Code Pink, Comrade O, Gore Vidal, Ramsay Clarke and their ilk, rolled up into a bundle on steroids.

If you don't care for a manly foreign policy, why are you here on FR???

Abrogate each and every treaty limiting or compromising US defense and prerogatives in any way whatsoever. Shut down the State Department altogether until it can be restored to the control of patriots. Remove the weasel from the White House. Conduct our foreign policy by the use of the Air Force and our Navy's ballistic missile submarines with maximum kill power and damage inflicted as necessary or as deemed desirable in this nation's interests with few American casualties or service personnel taken prisoner.

Not "technology exchanges" merely but "technology exchanges" designed to sell our nation down the river, to geld our military, to empower world government and Papa Bushie's "New World Order."

Is there some reason why conservatives should CARE what you believe????
