I find it interesting that NYC has to send the birds to PA to be butchered. I guess it is on more sign of the weakness of NYC to get things done because of regulations or the the Meat Packing district is dead.

Maybe that processor put in the lowest bid?

I have a buddy that goose hunts in Illinois every year and has it made into best jerky I've ever eaten.

Are chicken nuggets given away free of charge in New York City? If so, by whom?

“Seriously, goose, particularly wild goose, does not appeal to most people used to bland, generic processed food.”

I don’t think they have as strong a taste as turkey. Used to get several every year. Odd note;
I have a green Highlander. The geese don’t fear it. They step in front of it and refuse to move. But last winter, I drove towards them with the front of my car covered in nice white snow. They freaked out, and couldn’t get airborne fast enough! Musta thought my car was a polar bear or white fox. Big green, moving things don’t seem to register with their genes.

Wild turkey hunters I know say that only the breast is tender enough to be palatable. The same is probably true for wild goose.

Hmm...animals seem to have a collective instinct to choose locales where they know they will be safe. If the Canada geese start to disappear from one area, will that make the survivors decamp for safer environs?

Anyway, a good use for wild meat and it helps to clean the place up a little too.

Re my #39- I wonder if it was the same guy? Mine was on Second Avenue between 79th and 80th.

“When they were concentrating on feeding, the guy popped out of the alley with a large, long handled fisherman’s landing net and netted at least 5 or 6 of them.”

There was dismay some years ago in Jackson Square in New Orleans, where one of these guys caught a pigeon and began to eat it, raw and still twitching right there in the middle of the tourist throng. The incident got even more attention than the clown’s overdose, where he was loaded in to the ambulance with the last view of him being his big yellow shoes.

Goose is very fatty. Bloomberg’s health nazis will never allow this, because it would be like poisoning the homeless.

Just watch — that will be the objection.

Trapping wild ducks and turning them into Peking Duck doesn’t sound like too big a stretch, IMO.

Health departments get very obstreperous about wild fish and game, too. This might work in some places - like Louisiana’s distribution of nutria meat through the prison system - but I doubt this will go forward in NYC.

Again, given away by whom?

Last time I was in NYC, I had to pay for my food.

I didn't stay at a homeless shelter.

If the homeless shelters substitute goose for whatever they're serving up now (chicken nuggets?), where will our poor destitute homeless who can't pay for their food (as I did) get chicken nuggets? The answer is not the homeless shelter; chicken nuggets will no longer be available there.

I can’t say that I had any real objection to the whole business, but THE AUTHORITIES has a more jaundiced view of it.

Goose meat is about as lean as it gets.

Yet if these geese were in Orlando, they’d be arrested.

Hey, the MSM is great at "wild goose chases"...why not enlist them to help. Put a Palin sticker on those geese and the MSM will chase them till they drop.

A full roast duck hanging in the Vietnamese butcher shop here in town is $19.95. Those homeless folks are gonna be offered some high dollar dinners.
