If you really want to be nitpicky it's the ribbon worn in place of the National Defense Medal. Other awards are just ribbons, like my Sea Service and Arctic Service ribbons. Anyway, back in 1991 the Nat Def Medal was known as the CNN award for those of us that watched the Gulf War on CNN. Mine was special - it was the DoD medal (Defender of the Drydock).
Ahhh...you’d think he would have gone with the EIB or even a Blue Max!
What is most interesting is the fool shows up on a military installation with this facade. A couple of years ago here in the Dallas area we greet daily each plane that brings the GI’s back from the war zones for their 2 week R&R. This has been going on since the start of the R&R...every day at DFW when those young heroes exit customs they are met with a rousing homecoming that us Texans are very proud to provide...anyway we have a great USO here that actually was formerly the VIP lounge for Continental Airlines. I, along with a bunch of folks was a volunteer at the USO and one day was introduce to “Admiral SYZ” can’t remember his name...little short dumpy guy in civilian clothes. I greeted him appropriately and went about my business of being a servant to the troops as he got the VIP treatment from the USO “brass”...who basically are all “suck ups”. Come to find out about a year later this jerk is an imposter...had been a PFC in the Army and had gotten a dishonorable discharge.....but he had a helluva time for awhile in his make believe world!
I didn’t know the Air Force gave out CIBs.
The guy looks mentally retarded. Seems a mental health hold should have been in order.
Thanks, I’d never heard the term before and didn’t know the NDR had been replaced.
In my day is was known as the Fire Watch Ribbon. I enjoyed confusing young LTs with my ribbons. I wore both Army and Marine Corps plus the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. They would just look and never ask a question.
LOL!.
The only thing I remember about the USO at airports was how deserted they were and the coffee sucked, but it was a freebie.
I don’t think you would make those remarks if you went through the USO at the DFW airport....Starbucks coffee and great food and Texas hospitality.
Also looks like he’s got a couple of unit citations mixed in with the rest of the ribbons. They belong on the right side of the uniform just above the pocket flap.
Yeah, no kidding. Not too many guys earn the EIB.
Don’t doubt it, but Starbucks wasn’t around back then.
Five minutes??? It would take me at least a week to make sure it was done correctly and (ahem) By The Book! I could even think of making a career out of it.
Now I’m not preaching gospel and there are some career guys they may know better than me. All I know is I’ve got two medals (CNN and Undetected Crime) and two ribbons (Sea Service and Arctic Service), and my dolphins. Now one of my friends went on one deployment on a carrier and came home with three rows just for being there, LOL.
Dissing him is too easy.
Indeed, with the getup he's wearing, few would mistake him for an actual veteran. I see a guy who likely has some untreated mental issues and also likely has been a source of embarrassment and frustration to his family for quite some time.
Now here is a guy who should be locked in a wooden Mennonite box in the basement !!!!
I forgot what my dad/bro’s/uncle told me what the nickname for a GC was ...
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
You and all the other USO volunteers should hear it more. I've been in the USO centers in more than a dozen airports (even DFW) while traveling around the world at "Uncle Sugar's convenience". The USO lounge was always open, and there was always a helpful volunteer(s) to ease the stress of long flights. Thank you again!
