In publishing the image of a Greek flag draped over the coffin of the single currency, Der Spiegel has revealed the hidden goal of German policies: German hegemony, argues Athenian daily To Vima.

Venus de Milo giving a one-finger salute [on the front page of the weekly Focus in 2010] was in poor taste. However, the cover of todays Der Spiegel is more than just indecent, it also reveals the hidden intentions and objectives of German hegemony, not just for Greece but for all Europe.
In the wake of French President Nicolas Sarkozys unprecedented reining in of Angela Merkel and the pressure exerted by American President Barack Obama, this outrageous front page shows a Greek flag covering the coffin of the single currency.
Although it does not officially speak for Berlin, the magazine cover is revelatory of the sentiment that prevails among the section of the German ruling class, which reads the weekly news magazine: to wit, that Germany is opposed to further aid to Greece.
Among the arguments proposed by the article in Der Spiegel, is the so-called German truth that the economies of the eurozone, which implement different monetary and economic policies, are structurally different to the point where they cannot form a cohesive whole. According to the magazine, this situation now constitutes a serious risk for the euro and for Europe.
Nowhere does it say that the situation is not solely due to the Greek debt crisis. But in fact this is the case: the divergence between European economies has been largely caused by Germanys desire to use the Greek crisis as a lever to prompt an overall rethink of the single currency.
Berlin has shown that it wants to distinguish itself through the implementation of a selfish nationalist policy that will break nations and states that are unable or unwilling to follow in its footsteps. Those who are unable to comply with German demands will have no place either in the eurozone or in Europe.
Germany is now losing the battle for hegemony in Europe
What is striking is that at the very moment when this is coming to a head, everything that to date had been the official line maintained by our creditors has been overturned by opposition to German policy voiced by an unexpected ally: Eurogroup President and the Prime Minister of Luxembourg Jean-Claude Juncker. In an interview with the Belgian daily La Libre Belgique, Juncker is clearly opposed to Berlins dominant line when he explains, among other things, that the threat of further destabilisation caused by the people rather than by the markets is now a reality, and no one can predict when or where it will end.
In the wake of pressure from the United States and France, Germany is now losing the battle for hegemony in Europe a battle fought against the backdrop of a devasting policy for Greece and this is what disturbs Der Spiegel and its readers.
The fact is that the Germans wanted to put an end to the nightmare of countries that are unable to help them along their imperial path. Today they are looking forward to the end of the euro, not because the single currency is out for the count, but because their plans for the euro have come unstuck.
Perhaps the only thing left for them to do is to leave the eurozone. And perhaps that is the new message behind this offensive magazine cover. The Der Speigel image shows the euro being buried under a Greek flag, but the black, yellow and red uniforms of the gravediggers are all too visible in Greece.
The Greek govt are extremely lazy buggers. This is not the German’s fault. The only fault of theirs is that they were willing to pay for so long
True. The Euro is a currency founded on an unstable and unlikely premise that all member states will be fiscally responsible and put the protection of the currency above all else. When the Euro was established and all member state's sovereign debt was not absorbed under the single currency as a whole, the plan was doomed.
All the socialist European countries are in it together. Perhaps, except those not in the Euro Zone.
It is truly EUSSR.
The goal has always been to take down the worldwide capitalist system.
In U.S.A., the socialist congressmen were willing to sacrifice their careers to pass Socialized Medicine. The Obammunist and Socialist Congress is bent on destroying the American representative capitalist free enterprise system under rule of law.
It has always been an international communist conspiracy.
They will partially succeed.
And there it is.
Greece is entitled to leave the eurozone or the EU at any time, raving about “imperial Germany” when the Germans keep them from going bankrupt is idiotic if not third-worldish and that is insulting to the third world.
It is a bunch of clowns who do a lot of drama, whether the euro should fail or not isn’t up to debate, whether Greece is doing anything concrete beyond shifting the blame for its infinite stupidity is easy to see.
Am I to understand that this author is angry because the German socialists refuse to “spread the wealth” with the even worse Greek socialists? Too funny. I hope the whole Euro thing collapses.
Those sick scumbags know exactly what they're doing. Their destruction of traditional America is calculated and deliberate. To believe anything else is to ascribe to them a wholly unrealistic stupidity. They are selfish, greedy, power-lusting, and evil, yes - - stupid, no. Screw Medved. I agree with Rush 100%.
Why should Germany be forced to throw more money into saving Greece/ Let them go bust. Then start over.
Merkel is toast, politically. Average Germans are cheapskates, if anything, and they see the writing on the wall. Any German polician that helps throw more Deutsche Euro down into that sinkhole is also politically toast.
Perhaps the only thing left for them to do is to leave the eurozone.Yes, indeed. Pay for your deficit yourself.
Oh good grief, as if the Greek default is Germany’s fault?! Besides, the “plan” for the Euro ever since 1997 was to transfer sovereign European debt into a non-state currency, then default on that debt by invalidating the currency.
Poof! The debt is gone. Next everyone goes back to Francs and Marks and such.
Here is the cover article in Der Spiegel:
Now, Germans from the top to the bottom believe that they could run the world better than the Americans. This explains some of the rampant anti-Americanism in Germany which is a poisonous brew of envy, resentment, know-it-all-ism and belief in their own superiority.
So now that Europe has successfully launched the introduction of a united monetary unit, it is currently thinking of a united language.
The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility. As part of the negotiations, Her Majesty’s Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5-year phase-in plan that would be known as “Euro-English”.
In the first year, “s” will replace the soft “c”. Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard “c” will be dropped in favour of the “k”. This should klear up konfusion and keyboards kan have one less letter.
There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome “ph” will be replased with the “f”. This will make words like “fotograf” 20% shorter!
In the third year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expected to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkorage the removal of double leters which have always been a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horibel mes of the silent “e” in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.
By the fourth year, peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing “th” with “z” and “w” wiz “v”. During ze fifz year ze unesesary “o” kan be dropd from vords kontaining “ou” and similar changes vud of kors be aplid to ozer kombinations of leters. After ze fifz yer ve vil hav a reali sensibl ritn styl. Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis und evrivun vil find it ezi tu undrstand ech ozer.
Den ze dreem vil finali kum tru!!
Dann wird Deutschland über alles!
