Overwhelming dissatisfaction with the direction in which our country seems to be heading, and mediocre approval ratings for President Obama, should provide plenty of opportunity for Republican presidential candidates to find traction.
But a new CBS News/New York Times poll suggests the current field have a long way to go to impress the nation's conservative-minded voters.
While Republicans are more enthusiastic than Democrats about the presidential elections in 2012, Republican voters remain entirely un-enthused by their current options -- they're still waiting for one of the field to step up and shine, or for a new face to spring from the shadows.
Only 23 percent of Republican voters said they were satisfied with the candidates running for their party's nomination, while a solid majority of 71 percent said they'd like to see a new face in the mix.

Short of Ronald Reagan returning from the dead, many GOP voters will never be happy with the choices. And, based upon today’s standards of many GOP voters, Ronald Reagan would lose the nomination in this race.
Senator DeMint is beginnng to stake his claim to the top leadership post in the Senate.
I’d like Paul Ryan or Bachmann, plus John Bolton for VP.

Herman Cain is the man. He is the real tea party deal- “NOT” Bachman. It takes the right minnow to catch a big fish. Big fish are not caught by bait/flies they have already seen and escaped from or did not bite after.
Obama is like a fat cat trout sitting in a deep run at the head of a big pool. It takes a perfect presentation with the right bait to hook his ass and net him.

In Nov., 2010, we elected more than 700 patriots to state legislatures, resulting in complete control of 26 states. You will have a conservative patriot to vote for in 2012. Don’t you worry your pretty paperdoll head.
Personally, I’m one not happy with the current candidates. None of them excite me, nor do I feel the desire to campaign for any of them. I’m just being honest. Even though I want zero out of the WH, and will vote for whoever the nominee is, I’m just not thrilled.

SoldierDad, Reagan DID lose the nomination, twice! He actually had the highest popular vote total in 1968, but was crushed by Nixon in primary delegates. I think what that shows is that sometimes the really good ones take some seasoning. Look at Lincoln, for example, who thought he was finished after the 1858 defeat.
So CBS, I guess we’ll have to vote for 0bama then, right?

You bring up a great point. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a candidate you were passionate for instead of a compromise candidate that you would vote for mainly because the alternative was worse?

Yes, I’m well aware of Reagan’s first two attempts at running for President, and what the outcome was. I didn’t realize I would need to specify that I was speaking about his 1980 campaign. It’s also important to differentiate the differences between 1968, 1974, and 1980 with respect to the party machine in place for the GOP candidates who won those primaries. Reagan didn’t have the organization in those first two tries that he had in 1980.
True, but then, it was his exposure in the first two that allowed him to have the organization in 1980.

Well, I am unsatisfied, because I am waiting for Governor Palin.
Part of my problem with the field is that I’ve heard no realistic appraisal of our budgetary problems, or a plan on what to do about the economy other than “cut taxes and regulations.”
For those of us who sometimes speak in mathematical terms, cutting taxes & regs is “necessary, but not sufficient” to solve our problems.
Herman Cain is the only option with the current field. Bachmann has a bad case of Foot in Mouthitis. She is going to be shredded by the MSM to point she will no longer be viable. The sad thing is she is doing it to herself. The rest of field are nothing but super RINOs, and Perry is he gets in falls into the RINO category. Unless Palin or Bolton get in, Herman Cain Gets my vote in the primary. I put up the Herman Cain signs in the front yard yesterday

I've said what I've said because that is what I think and believe.

I can’t see what’s not to like in this year’s field.
Bachmann is perfectly acceptable and a firecracker (though needs a little work on her presentation, as she pans flat sometimes).
Cain is also great, though gaining funding to win a primary is questionable.
Perry seems weak on immigration (both legal and illegal), but would otherwise be great (I take it that it’s a foregone he’s entering).
Pawlenty is not terribly inspiring but also acceptable.
They way I look at it, Romeny was probably the most conservative candidate in the race (with a chance) in 2008. (No, Hunter nor Tancredo ever either stood a chance) until Thompson got it. Now he stands as decidedly to the left of most of the candidtates in the race.
I’m much more pleased this year than in 2008.

I have not yet settled on a first choice. This year’s field is, I agree, much stronger than in 2008. There are a few who shouldn’t be running under an “R”. There are a few who I’d like to see enter the race. But, of the ones that have entered the race, this election’s class is definately stronger than 2008. I’m waiting to see which one is able to seriously separate from the also-rans, and waiting to see if others might enter the race.

The Eleventh Commandment is null and void during the primaries. There is nothing wrong with a knock down, drag out fight. It toughens the eventual nominee.
