Earlier this month, Sen. Marco Rubio made an auspicious debut.
Unlike so many first turns in the upper chamber, Rubio’s stirring remarks, which celebrated American exceptionalism, caught fire. The Florida Republican’s words were cited by Senate colleagues and championed by conservatives. To no one’s surprise, the push to put Rubio on the 2012 ticket only increased, even though the charismatic freshman continues to swat away the chatter.
Look for the Rubio buzz to continue. In an interview with National Review Online, he says that he will take to the Senate floor for his second speech this week — and this time he will have President Obama in his crosshairs.
Rubio tells us that he will respond to Obama’s recent press conference, where the president reveled in class-warfare bluster. “Quite frankly, I am both disappointed for our country and shocked at some of the rhetoric,” he says. “It was rhetoric, I thought, that was more appropriate for some left-wing strong man than for the president of the United States.”
“Talking about corporate jets and oil companies,” Rubio says, missed the point. “Everybody here agrees that our tax code is broken,” he says, and he is open to discussing tax reform. “But don’t go around telling people that the reason you are not doing well is because some rich guy is in a corporate jet or some oil company is making too much money.”
Watching Obama brandish such talking points made Rubio wince. “Three years into his presidency, he is a failed president,” he says. “He just has not done a good job. Life in America today, by every measure, is worse than it was when he took over.”
“When does it start to get better?” Rubio asks. “When does the magic of this president start to happen?”
Rubio can’t be President because...3...2...1.

Freshman Rep. Allen West:
“What you continue to see is a third world dictator-like arrogance, that’s what I saw in that speech last week. And look, Laura, to borrow a phrase from Reverend Jeremiah Wright, the chickens are coming home to roost. . . . This whole talk about shared prosperity I mean that really gives me the goosebumps because I’m starting to believe that a community organizer is nothing but a low-level socialist agitator.”
Rubio and West would make quite a team!
I agree. I don’t think West is presidential material though. Rubio has some ‘birth issues’. Wonder if he could still be a vice presidential nominee though.

Someone needs to call “O” what he is.
From the beginning, “O” reminded me of Robespierre. Only Robespierre actually had an education, a commitment to his country and real credentials. However, he WAS just as dogmatic, peculiar, narrow minded and self-absorbed as “O”.
Radical populism does not work. But don’t take it from me. History is filled with the wreck of societies and countries that were had by these flim-flam confidence men.
As much as I like him, he has a style that would be very difficult to convince the center of the electorate to buy into: negatives would be very high, Any true conservative would be desireable, but I am not sure he could pull it off.
LOL! Rubio is fully qualified under the Constitution to be president. There is not a court in the land that would find that the Constitution really meant only the children of parents born here. It is not parentage that confers US citizenship, but place of birth, which is why we can have everything from “anchor babies” to the fact that people born to US parents outside of the United States are not considered eligible for the presidency (unless born on what is technically US soil, that is, a military base or an embassy). We went through all this with McCain and Obama.
Well, we didn’t really go through it with Obama, since nobody even cared about the fact that he had nothing to back up his assertion that he was born here and in fact even had newspaper articles (which he never corrected, if they were wrong) referring to him as “Kenyan born.” But McCain sure got a lot of scrutiny on this one, since he had been born out of the country and in a hospital that was used by the military but not actually on the military base. It was a technicality, but I think the reason the Dems agreed to let it go was so that Obama wouldn’t be required to prove anything and because they knew McCain was a lousy candidate and would be sure to lose.
Rubio is great. I saw him speak at a Tea Party, and he’s an excellent speaker, very engaging but stays right on target. He also has a real command of the issues, unlike President Ignoramus-on-a-Teleprompter.
I obviously can’t speak for others, but he is as close to a perfect candidate for me as anyone. He has a lot of support on FB and other media. The YouTube videos have a lot of positive comments, asking him to run. A lot of Americans are ready for a true American hero. But I don’t think he wants to run, so it doesn’t matter. Maybe eventually he will.

Bachmann is a great speaker, but can she lead also?
Good speakers are a fabulous asset right now...they're doing a good job of getting the public to understand conservative principles.
But we're going to need a great exec as well. People in the legislatures just generally don't do that as well.
Now THIS is the guy we’d like to vote for...
The GOP should be calling Obama more than that. How much worse does it have to get before republicans start directly calling Obama what he obviously is?
