Bell Helmets had an add years ago that said, “If you’ve got a ten dollar head, wear a ten dollar helmet.” What does it say about how you value your head if you don’t wear a helmet at all?

That said, if you are an adult, I think it is your choice. Period.

Needless call by the police. Probably should have just pushed his body over in the ditch ~ the bike, of course, could have been taken to a safe place to be dismantled into parts.

So, which of these winners called the cops and generated public costs?

Why is it that so many states have strict seat belt laws but no law regarding motorcycle helmets? It would seem to me that it should be both or neither.

And it would seem to me that if you choose not to wear a helmet, your insurance premiums should be much higher because of the increased risk.

I recall the ads back in the 70's when you could see a brand X helmet which was superficially similar to the Bell, but about 1/3rd the price. I remember the ad as '"Got a $2 head? Get a $2 Helmet". As far as this rider...Doh!

I must respectfully disagree,if you can prove that you indemnify the public from your bad choices and risk taking, then by all means ride with no helmet. If you can’t do that then the empirical evidence suggests helmets protect not only your mellon but society from having to be burdened by the real possibility of expensive head trauma care and resulting lifetime care.

I believe it. My neighbor got into a motorcycle accident on the freeway and needed 9 damn months of rehab, including a broken leg. It pisses him off that he needed crutches for 6 months going up and down an apartment building WITHOUT an elevator.

That’s not why he’s alive. He had his helmet on. Period. he told me, he rebelled against a helmet but he did wear it when the accident occurred.
