The state of Texas is warning Americans to avoid travel to the Mexican border town of Nuevo Laredo this holiday weekend because of an anticipated surge in drug cartel violence aimed at Americans.
In a news release Saturday, the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Webb County Sheriff's Office said their sources indicated that the Zetas drug cartel was "planning to target U.S. citizens who travel to Nuevo Laredo this weekend."
Steven C. McCraw, the department's director, also said in the statement:
"According to the information we have received, the Zetas are planning a possible surge in criminal activity, such as robberies, extortions, car-jackings and vehicle theft, specifically against U.S. citizens."

I would say you are preaching to the choir here
:)
Heck, judging from my workplace even the Mexicans don’t want to be in Mexico anymore. I don’t know what rabbit brained tourist would want to risk their life to look for cheap trinkets and watch a donkey show. As for the Mexican Americans, perhaps going home to visit grandma might wait another year.
Just rather interesting that it made the Los Angeles Times
The entire country of Mexico has become one big intelligence test.
If you go there, you failed.
Failed state. While we are off trying to civilize the savages in far off lands (the middle east) we have a festering pit next door.
I wouldn’t go into Mexico if the trip was all expense paid. That is not to say that in the past I hadn’t wanted to...... it no longer sounds like fun and it’s not worth the risks.
Haven’t been to Mexico in 10 years. Will likely never go again.
It’s been a long time since it was safe to cross the border - south, that is.
IMO the entire country of Mexico has become one huge overflowing septic tank.

Not sure which way is south in this picture but clearly most traffic seems to be in one direction.
Obama has ceded the southern border states, and put an exclamation point on it. It’s up to the border states to fend off the Zeta types. It’s up to all of us.
Interesting that the warming came from Texas, I am liking it that Texas is acting more and more like a sovern (sp?) state.
warning NOT warming, we have that too in Texas :)
I heard there was a new bridge. That looks like it might be it. LOL!
My house keeper and her family will not be going back to visit relatives this year for the first time since she came here (legally I might add). The roads are just too dangerous.
Don’t know if it was because of the long weekend, but I saw a TON of people heading south on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
I drove from Albuquerque (for work) down to El Paso then Van Horn and then back up toward Clovis, NM before returning home and I saw many, many IN TOW vehicles stuffed with everything imaginable.
The most popular vehicle from what I saw was the very old, small Toyota trucks - can’t think of the name - that looked to be early 80’s models, maybe older. There was always 1 driving and 1 being towed. I saw mattresses, refrigerators, freezers, children’s bikes, toys, clothing everywhere and loads of furniture.
Whether this was people returning home or just taking loads of goodies home, I don’t know but about every 5th car on the road was one of these vehicles.
This picture is coming into the Mexico. At least every crossing I’ve been to in Texas, the gate is on the Mexican side.
Ross Perot was right about fighting the drug war. He said “Most of these guys driving Mercedes couldn’t work the third shift at a Dairy Queen.” The question he posed was “Are we willing to do what it will take to stop them when the pay off from drugs is so much more than what they can earn legally.” I don’t think we were willing then and weren’t not willing now.
South? Out of the US?
Very interesting observation. Could these be illegals calling it quits in the US due to the Baraqqi depression?
They come in by illegal means, but they can return by the bridge with cars (and other stuff) they acquire after being here for a while. Lots and lots of car thefts in my area right before Mexican holidays ... before they go home.
I drove to Acapulco recently and I went through Nuevo Laredo at 5am so I wouldn’t run into Problems.. I Passed Monterrey By 8am that is where narcos have some Tanks drove to Mexico City then Acapulco.. arrived and a Couple of weeks Later 24 people were stuffed in 3 Volkswagon Beetles.. 12 Missing Heads... Evrey Day Masked Troops Drove around Policing Acapulco.. This is worse than when I lived In Cali Colombia and it was Kidnapping Capital of World
Is there any estimate of how much killing is going on? What the numbers are? Is it possibly some sort of mass extermination?
How 'bout it? I used to think it would be neat to visit foreign countries when I was younger, but I have lost any interest in that.
All of the foreigners are coming here as it is, usually not for the better. Now, about that fort I'm building....
I Drove Down to Laredo from Minnesota.. I Noticed 5 Convoys of Pickup trucks Full of Washer dryers Tv’s and stuffed it looked like the suspensions on all of them would explode from the weight.
All Trucks had Michoacan License Plates Home of the Narcos Each Pickup truck had 1 Driver with a Steroid developed Necks and nobody accompanying them.. Unbelievable. Our Country is Out of Control.
The entry into USA is a 4 Hour wait..for customs and Immigration. When I Drove to Acapulco I passed through at 5am Us Side asked a Lot of questions.. Mexican side for Customs was looking for electronic stuff. But Mexican Passport Control weren’t on Duty yet so nobody checked My ID! Incredible! until you leave..
South? Out of the US?

Yes, South out of the US. Not sure if they were just taking goodies home to their families still in Mexico or if they were returning because the economy is so bad.
I saw a lot of CA license plates and a fair number of AZ plates as well.
Here are two good sources for border/cartel news.
Warning there are some graphic images at both sites.

Over 40 thousand reported killed in the last few years.
Mass extermination? Very much so.
It is very bad and it’s coming our way
I do think that people are so short of cash that they are no longer paying others to do their baby sitting, gardening, and handi-work. Also, the trades have been very hard hit in California so there is no money for the illegals.
Makes sense they would leave. There is nothing for them here anymore.
Why would you go there? I don’t get it.
Very interesting observation. Could these be illegals calling it quits in the US due to the Baraqqi depression?

I think that might by why. If so, I say keep on going!
Since 1970 when I first went to the border I was told not to take my car across. It would be even more dangerous now.
So, I am still confused as to who is being killed? Rivals? Law enforcement? Anyone in particular or random murder to incite fear? Blood lust? All of the above? Sounds like Saddam Hussein or Idi Amin.
Why so many?
It used to be rivals. Now it’s anyone and everyone. They’ll kidnap people and force them to work for them. If they don’t they’ll kill a few members of the family. The rest will go on the payroll.
It’s bad when the cops are wearing masks so their families won’t be targeted. The military is bought off. It’s not worth dieing for or having family killed.
And it’s already coming across our border. If Rick Perry truly wants to be president he needs to call out the NG and place them on the border. When obama threatens tell him to go to hell. Perry would have my vote no matter what if he’d do that. And I don’t like Perry. Mainly because he won’t do it.
So, it is slave labor and intimidation.
Terrible. I have thought Perry was pretty good about calling it out. Who would you put in his place?
Went to Nuevo Laredo one day in ‘87, at the time there seemed to be a thriving Chicklet industry.
Haven’t had the desire to return, even before this warning was issued.
I went to Mexico because i was helping out some Missionaries at a Convent and seminary. Helping organize backroom a Litle Fundraising. The Nuns Opened a New Mission in Minnesota and they Bought and Brought a Ford Ranger unforunately it didn’t have 4 wheel drive for cold and snowy Minnesota. I Drove it back because the Mexicans were afraid to Drive I lived overseas 20 yrs. I picked the time they would be sleeping I guessed right..hahaha I Figured I was on a Mission from GOD he would protect me and he delivered!
I was suprised how Many 2nd Generation Mexicans in Dallas drive to Their Families Villages in Mexico with stuff a Couple Times a Year. The Cars You saw with American Tags were Families Visiting Home for Long weekend.. The Mexican Michoacan Plates are the Narcos..Soldiers..
Glad you made it back safely. It does sound like since you were on a humanitarian mission you were being watched by the angels.
This war really is between the Two Narco Groups they are fighting who is king of a terroitory.. They also organize the Coyotes who bring people across. The Cook at the Convent son was Murdered because he didn’t want to be a Coyote anymore they killed one Night with his friend on their way to their Normal Jobs Janitors in a Hospital..
They sometimes Kidnap but they have so much Money they don’t need ransoms to finance. the scary part for me is Hezbollah has gone to the state of Chiahuahua and are trying to recruit the Lebanonese who settled many generations ago to be Terrorist or part of their new network.!
Now Nuevo Laredo is a Big Traffic Jam.. Thats why I went through at 5am.. clear Roads..
So, I am still confused as to who is being killed? Rivals? Law enforcement? Anyone in particular or random murder to incite fear? Blood lust? All of the above?
All the above as you say plus many more reasons.
They will go into a town or plaza in rival territory and shoot it up to bring in law enforcement. That is called “heating up the plaza” If they kill some rivals it is a bonus.
Another thing the cartels do is highjack buses full of migrants heading North In short they split up the able body male passengers hand them sledge hammers or macheties and pair them off to fight to the death. the winners get to join the cartel. The woman and children may have a worse fate. The drug business in Mexico is now a global operation and becoming diversified.
“According to an analysis by the Mexico Attorney General, the groups illegal counterfeiting activities involved a sophisticated distribution network of 180,000 points of sale in stores, markets, and kiosks, earning more than $2.2 million dollars in revenue every day,” Finn later wrote in a blog post. “It’s no wonder that enforcement agencies and governments are deeply concerned about this trend.”

If we don’t get better control of our borders more of that evil will come here.
Oaama and his kids should go!
WITHOUT Security.
He’ll be fine.
He wont have to worry about moats and alligators.
My late wife and I were transferred to Mexico City in 1991. We drove down from MD, and spent the day in Laredo, getting Mexican insurance and other necessary paperwork for crossing. We crossed into Nuevo Laredo around 1000 the next day. As soon as we cleared customs and entered the city, we looked at each other and said “uh oh.” It was pretty grim 20 years ago, and I doubt if it’s improved much. The country improved as we got farther away from the border towns. I can only imagine how much more difficult is to be in Mexico City today. Not a place I’d ever go back to.
Actually, they’re going further south to Guatemala/El Salvador. Mexicans only do newer model “Chebys” now days.
I talked to one of these guys that does it for a living. They get by both ways with “La Mordida”.
Interesting, I didn’t know that.
Many of you bloggers need to clean up your thoughts, such as entering the unfamiliar zone of capital letters, commas and periods. Most of the above postings are incomprehensible. Please, don’t bother to write if you cannot gather your thoughts.
What a horror
I have no idea. Today’s politicians are whimps. There doesn’t seem to be a Teddy R. among them.
