Everyone on this post thinks pRes_ _ent Obama will do
the “right thing”.
That is not likely given his history. It is his way.

More likely, this will be orchestrated by Iran and
Obama by changing the ROE, and then having Obama
lash out at Israel. The Congress will cry. It is their way.

I’m not sure how available they will be in the near future, or if they train against maritime targets. Still, how much training does it take to shoot a barrel full of fish? Best part is, there won’t be any images of a “Highway of Death” for CNN to bleat about, just debris and bodies spread over the sea.

A Wart Hog is an A-10 with a 12’ 30 mm gun. Tank killer for sure and just about anything else.

If one of those MACH-3 missiles DOES get in, it is moving way too fast to be shot down with conventional means, by the time it moves to within PHALANX range, it will also hit the ship before it can be shot down. If it jinks in flight before hitting it’s target, soemthing we knew how to make happen 30 years ago, that ship is in dead serious trouble.

Those missiles also fly faster than the anti-aircraft missiles we shoot at them from the side or behind, our only hope is to be within 10 miles when we launch a missile from any diagonal from the front approach or head on so that the missile has the range to follow and destroy that missile inbound.

These new hypersonic missiles are a genuine threat!

The AH-64 is a hell of a platform. Carries a 30MM chain gun with 1200 rounds, two hell fire missals or a variant, and 12 air to ground rocket pods. Mess with them and your are dead. Then can sit a mile away and pick you apart.

Marines fly Cobras, not Apaches.

Navy also have serious E2C aircraft in the sky, drones, and satellite observation surrounding a carrier

NMone of that means a thing if the enemy shoots first with a hypersonic missile. If we are prepared for war, we might stop it. if we are surprised, we lose a carrier.

We aren't allowed to use helicopters in “war games”, I suppose. Attack helicopter vs. fast boat. Where do I place my bets? In the war games, the Iranians are assumed to have perfect opsec and comsec and pull off perfect marshaling. In the real world, half of them will never get to the marshaling point, hundreds of sailors will be tweeting cousins, girlfriends, boyfriends, wives, and college chums from UCLA. Long before they find the aircraft carriers by “reconnaissance in force”, the force decimate their sorry asses and send them back to Tehran with tales of gore.

It will be a farce and a tragedy.

Do I believe that the Marines could pull off something like what was done in the war game? Maybe. Can the Iranians. Not likely.

Boy, do YOU have that all wrong!

Iran was and is the biggest sponsor of terrorism across the globe and their IEDs have killed more troops than Iraqi republican guard!

Iran FOUNDED Hexbollah, funds Al Qaeda, Hamas, Osama, the Abu Sayef, every single terrorist group out there to include Hexbollah forces in Venezuela, Mexico and crossign our southern and northern borders!

We didnt invade Iraq just because of 9/11, we did so to contain Iran.

That was 2002. Since then they’ve wargamed that scenario TO DEATH. A tweak here, a tweak there, a Phalanx, helicopters, and UAVs everywhere... it’ll be like swattin’ mosquitoes. It was never going to be much of a problem anyway once the brains in the Pentagon turned their attention to it.

I agree, they would have to pull off a Pearl Harbor sucker punch. I don’t think the Navy is sitting in the Gulf waiting to get sucker punched again, like they did with the Stark.

Shocking! To think that in the case of military action against Iran... that Iran would target our *MILITARY* assets.

Everyone knows that the only legitimate targets are women and children.

(Sheesh, this is on par with saying that the sky is blue and water is wet... and in war, militaries fight each other!)

If he thinks that it could help...and of course it might, Iran could taste the result of his panic.

OMG, he just might resort to the action of last resort, sending Biden instead of Hillary to deliver a stern protest on White House stationary typed in ALL CAPS!!!

Saddam had done a good job containing Iran before we decided to destabilize the Middle East. We should have a lower profile in that part of the world and let the locals serve our interests by fighting among themselves in pursuit of ancient enmities.

Iran didnt have hypersonic cruise missiles like they have now, nor did they have hundreds of SCUD variant missiles like they have ben stockpiling up like now. Only ONE has to work, and if they fire 6 or 10 at once at a single target, there isn’t enough anti-missile firepower to guarantee safety

Iran fought a totally different war against Iraq than would be fought against us, and if you think that war would be limited to the Persian Gulf region, you would be wrong, and if you think it would be against American forces only, you would be wrong, too.

The Saudi’s need to be buying Patriot missiles, too.

Fine.

Take out a carrier, and Tehran and Isfahan are nuked, plus we take over Kharg Island and keep the oil.

Iran is the head of the hydra, and we need to stop pretending we are not already at war with them.

So I’ve been told. Same result: Cobra vs. fast attack boat = debris field with bodies floating.
