One out of 17 is high to me. If this behavior is bad enough to affect their courtroom testimony then they should be done as a LEO. Imagine how many cases can be dismissed or found not guilty based on testimony from a cop that no one believes or trusts. Time to say “bye bye” to them. IMHO

Mom is right. WHen an officer is no longer able to testify, he should no longer be employed.
This is why most police agencies fire an officer when they determine he has lied. He cannot perform effectively and cannot perform important elements of the job based on his own actions.

That is grounds to be terminated in federal law enforcement. There is a name for it related to the court precedence, but I can't remember it off the top of my head.
Not saying it happens every time, but is a common result of an integrity issue.
