There was a time when arriving at work with an eye the color of an overripe tomato would have been because I had a really good time the night before.
This one is all Sarah Palin's fault.
My very competent and nice eye doctor, Dr. Baxter, told me that a blood vessel burst in my left eye. It is something that can happen from a sudden increase in blood pressure, like what happens when you have a coughing fit.
Or when Sarah Palin makes the cover of Newsweek magazine.
"Ready to run," the cover reads.
Oh, spare me.
It is no coincidence that my vessel popped within hours after the issue arrived in my mailbox.
The former Governor of Alaska, who quit two years into her first term wouldn't win her home state in a Presidential election. I'm not making that up, it's from Policy Polling and their survey showed that only one of the Republican candidates could take their home state, and that's Gary Johnson in New Mexico. Palin, who isn't even an official candidate, rates just slightly above Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann in the unpopular rankings. Both women have a favorability ranking of 33 percent. Yet a national magazine puts Palin on the cover. (I wasn't real happy about Newsweeks cover last week either, the one that showed a computer-aged Princess Diana walking along with Princess Kate. That was just sleazy.)
Putting Palin on the cover may be good for newsstand sales, but it plays havoc with my health.
And yes, before you ask, I DID read the article in the magazine.
Here's what frosts my pumpkin about the recent Sarah Palin cover. She is a private citizen, not a candidate for president. My profession, the "lamestream media," as she calls us, who provide fuel to whatever fire is in Sarah Palin's gut for fame and fortune are who should be held accountable for my bloody eye.
A co-worker and I have an informal wager going, because he insists Palin will run for President. I say no she won't. Why would she take the pay cut? She could win some primaries, where typically only the faithful bother to show up to vote. In 2008, during the Nebraska primary election on May 13, only 20 percent of registered voters went to the polls. And that's the Republicans. The next time you are at the local grocery store, take a minute to look at the first 10 people you see browsing in the potato chip aisle. Ask yourself if you would trust any two of them to decide who will be in charge of the country for four years, and see if you don't have an immediate impulse to build a bunker in your backyard or ask Canada if we can sleep on their couch. I would be happy to loan you my copy of Newsweek, except that I used it under a bug bomb to prevent toxic drips landing on my carpet. I have to stay ahead of the ants.
I need to calm down here before I burst anything else. So I'm going to try and forget about Sarah Palin and politics and relax because it's my birthday.
By the time this appears in the newspaper, it will have come and gone, so let me thank all of you in advance for the lavish gifts and fuss you made. (Belated fussing will be tolerated.)
Now I am going to retreat to my ant-free abode and put an icepack on my eye.
Interesting. This twit subscribes to Newsweek, watches Stephen Colbert and hates conservatives like Sarah Palin.
No liberal bias there.
No sign of intelligence, either.
God forgive me, that’s what I’m wishing happens to many of them between primary season and election day.
Hopefully next time the head explodes like an over ripe boil.
You know a person’s a loser when she admits to subscribing to “Newsweek.”

First she is one of the several dozen people left that actually has this liberal rag delivered to her house. She has fleas, and who knows what other vermin in her house.
Then I had to reread the last bit because at first I thought she wrote she was going to put an icepick in her eye.

In these ways Gov. Sarah Palin is out of step with the culture: She does not think that being non-judgmental is the highest good. She believes there is evil in the world and we should name it and stand against it. She is not intimidated by those deemed more important by the media. Counter to her reputation, she follows policymaking, understands it, and pronounces correctly on it. These things may outweigh her undeniable immersion in the pop-cultural swamp.
There is just one thing that should be remembered about Sarah Palin - she is smarter than 999 out of any 1,000 people in politics and the MSM. Thomas Sowell is smarter than everyone, so he out matches her; Victor Davis Hanson may, as well...but you won't find too many others who actually do.
She's running intellectual rings around everyone - and doing it so well that even her critics don't notice it, even if they have no wit to understand that they might not know as much as they think. We have seen this before, by the way - the man's name was Ronald Reagan.

Anybody that thinks Sarah Palin is not capable of being a great president, may have their mind changed by reading about her accomplishments. She not only stood up to corrupt Republicans, she fired, fined, and jailed them. She not only stood up to big oil companies, she beat them at their own game, and brought them in line. “Conservatives4Palin” has a lot of information. Also, her book, “Going Rogue,” and apparently the new documentary film, “The Undefeated.”
Don’t judge her, at least until after you do research. If there is someone better to be our president, please tell me who. "

I would trust them LONG before I would trust a smarmy effete, elitist snob like the author of the article.
I’d rather have someone like Jed Clampett or the average Biker as president than any Ivy League “graduate” that I know. They’re all a bunch of ivory tower pinheads, while people like Jed and most Bikers I know are down-to-earth, say-what-they-mean and mean-what-they-say folks.
The author can keep the metrosexual fairies. I want real people who live real lives. Yeah, Jed Clampett was a fiction, but he’s still more real than any of the ivy league queens.
If only that blood vessel had been somewhere other than her eye....Did I type that out loud?
