Speaker Boehner Calls the Rush Limbaugh Show, Says There is No Deal on Budget
RushLimbaugh.com ^ | 07/21/2011 | Rush Limbaugh

Posted on 07/21/2011 1:21:59 PM PDT by iowamark

RUSH: We're so happy to have with us the Speaker of the House, John Boehner. I'm glad that we had a chance to talk to you here, Mr. Speaker, because people are confused with all of these leaks as to what's going on.

SPEAKER BOEHNER: Well, Rush, there is no deal. No deal publicly. No deal privately. There is absolutely no deal. Our focus --

RUSH: Are you talking about a deal, though?

SPEAKER BOEHNER: Pardon me?

RUSH: Are you talking about a deal in secret?

SPEAKER BOEHNER: Our focus right now is getting the Senate to follow us in the House and pass cut, cap, and balance. I believe that we've got to act to prevent a default and to prevent a downgrade of our nation's credit rating, and the best way to do that is to enact cut, cap, and balance. But let me be clear: I believe that is the best course of action. I've said all the way along that we've gotta keep the lines of communication open. That's why Leader Cantor and I have talked with Mitch McConnell. We've talked to Nancy Pelosi. We've talked to the president. We talked about fallback options if in fact cut, cap, and balance does go down; and I do think it's our obligation to have a fallback plan if that doesn't work.

RUSH: Well, but that's what everybody is worried about: What is the fallback plan? A congressional aide is out there today saying that the deal's been struck. He's unnamed, he's on Fox, he's saying, "It's $3 trillion of cuts with no tax revenue." National Journal says three trillion in cuts with "insignificant" tax revenues. So a lot of people out here are of the opinion that Obama is the one who ought to be caving. He's the one that doesn't have a plan. He's forcing you to compromise with yourself. He's done great damage to the economy, and people want it to stop.

SPEAKER BOEHNER: I understand. I'm concerned about the nation defaulting on its credit rating. I'm concerned about us not doing anything about our debt, which will cause our credit rating to fall -- and which then would mean everybody's interest rates go up. I think that's irresponsible. Frankly we've had looked at a half a dozen fallback plans. None of which, none of which, are all that appetizing. That's why we continue to support cut, cap, and balance.

RUSH: So you're convinced that a default would make us unable...? We were to be unable to service our debt if there's a default?

SPEAKER BOEHNER: I'm concerned that we're getting into uncharted territory that could wreak great havoc on our nation, and I don't think it's necessary to get into that unknown zone and take the chance -- and I, frankly, believe that we've gotta find a way to cut our budget deficit, cut our debt, and balance our budget.

RUSH: Why is it not Obama's responsibility to do that? He's the one that's put us in this position.

SPEAKER BOEHNER: It would have been nice if the President would have put a plan to the table months ago, but the President has refused to put any plan on the table. It's obviously been driving me right up a wall.

RUSH: He wants you to take the heat for whatever happens.

SPEAKER BOEHNER: Yeah, but I think at the end of the day he knows that he's the commander-in-chief, he's the president of the United States, and HE will take the heat.

RUSH: Well, a lot of people are concerned that you are his lifeline to reelection and that that's how he sees you, and that if he can get you to act in any way that can be portrayed as a cave that he wins, and that's what people are deathly afraid of.

SPEAKER BOEHNER: Rush, I'm trying to do what I taught my kids to do; the same thing my parents taught me to do: You do the right things for the right reasons, good things will happen.

RUSH: All right, Speaker Boehner thanks much.

SPEAKER BOEHNER: Thank you, Rush.

RUSH: I wish we had more time, but we don't. Thanks very much for the time here. END TRANSCRIPT

Rush hasn’t been the same since the divorce from “Marta” and his drug addiction. He needs to go away quietly. We have advanced well past him and his “schtick(sp?).

He can demand all he wants...Reid holds the keys to the door and he ain’t unlocking it.

The problem is there are 3 Republican plans out there so Obama has already divided the party which is what the democrats want.

They need to unite behind CCB, go 24/7 with Rubio and a few others who are “made for TV” and hit every news outlet...even the ones we don’t like, otherwise it’s a lost cause since we do not control congress or the white house

Well, at least Rush gets it!!!

Does Boehner? Well, we’ll see.

As posted before, if Boehner doesn’t cave and Obama does, Obama loses (liberals get mad).

If Boehner doesn’t cave, and Obama doesn’t either, Obama loses (default, independents permanently walk away).

Hopefully Rush spelled that out with sufficient clarity such that Boehner understands....

Never go to battle prepared to lose, it makes you look like a fool.

If it passes the Senate and Obama vetos it, then he takes responsibility for the govt. shutdown. If he signs it, then it’s a GOP victory and the left will crack up.”

Right on. That is sort of another way to state Rush’s main point.

The only way we lose is for Obama to convince Boehner to cave. (Which caving would also ensure that Boehner will be ousted as Speaker).

(Of course, in a sense, if Obama doesn’t cave, we also lose b/c the US would go into default....and we would sort of be in uncharted territory. But politically speaking...)

Especially the dim senators who are up for reelection in 2012.

That might be because the RINOs are on the GOLF COURSE with their dimo demo buddies.

The problem has ALWAYS been country club elitists of ANY stripe. We used to call them Rockefellers (see Jay Rockefeller, D-WVa owner of nearly ALL mineral rights under W.V.) no matter what party they said they were.

The regular run of the mill conservative American, whether a working person or an investor (which can now be BOTH) is left out of this. The small businessperson who is the major employer with an S corp with gross sales of $250K or more— that’s a wealthy person to both parties, both TAXING parties, and both BENEFACTORING parties of govt goodies and subsidies.

The corporatists/fascists do not have to belong to ANY party or be any THING. They feature in taking one side or the other that suits their needs.

This is in a nutshell the problem. Boehner needs to understand that the Democrats are ALWAYS lying... period. That makes holding the cards much easier. No bluff, just fact. So far he seems to be holding the line on C,C, and BAL. But, teary scared-— too bad. Try to remember our combat soldiers who have more reasons to be scared than a former caddie.

The least that Boehner could do is demand that the cap and balance plan be put to a vote in the Senate, before any further negotiations take place.

Make the Senate go on record on cap and balance and make Obama veto it if it passes.

That was quick ... vote is Friday ... http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2752004/posts

How’d you like Arlen Specter ‘04-'10 because Rush went in the tank for the GOP in the ‘04 primary?

So tell me FA, what did Rush do or say to promote Specter over Toomey back in 2004?

Or is your anger at Rush based on the fact that Rush never promotes one GOP candidate over another during the primaries?

Since you bring up 2004, I'm assuming you have been listening to him since then so you should be aware of that fact...............

BONER: Pardon me?

In my opinion, that was the scary part of the conversation. Boner heard exactly what Rush said, and yet felt the need to say 'pardon me' to buy time to come up with an answer. Mighty slippery there, Mr. Boner. I hope for your and the country's sake you are not blowing smoke.

Instead of cutting a deal the Republicans should pass a bill mandating that interest payments be made, Social Security payments and Medicare payment be made and Military pay and benefits be paid out of current income. Any leftover income should be paid proportionateley to the various government departments.

Make the Democrats vote against protecting our credit rating, Social security and our military.

You’re an idiot and a liar.

The person you are referring to is neither an idiot or a liar. I too listened to Speaker of the Cave-In Boner. He most certainly did not give straight answers, he most certainly said the vote was for show and now it's time to get down to something that the Democrats will bless, and he most definitely indicated complete and total ignorance of the consequences of the democrat/media inspired and contrived make believe default. Boner expressed nothing that would lead one to believe he had a scintilla of brain activity.

Well, I believe the CCB and the Ryan plan called for around 120B in cuts next year. So it would have to start with that. I’d like to see at least 200B in cuts next year.

Even at the peak of the Clinton years they were cutting less than 100B a year from the deficit.

I think if they can get at least 150B in cuts next year that’d be a good start.

Keep in mind that in a meeting with the GOP the Obama OMB director Lew admitted that the WH plan only called for 2B in cuts next year:

In Monday’s White House meeting, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell asked Mr. Obama’s budget director, Jack Lew, how much the deal on the table would cut discretionary spending next year. Mr. Lew responded, “$2 billion.” That’s a mere 0.3 percent cut overall. With the purported Aug. 2 default deadline around the corner, a deal acceptable to conservatives is not going to happen.
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/jul/12/debt-talk-endgame/print/

So that’s where Obama and the dems were. 2 billion in cuts next year in discetionary spending. That’s it. Why the GOP hasn’t trumpeted this from the rooftops and mentioned it at every chance I have no idea.

So if the GOP can get a minimum 150B in cuts(and that would have to exclude any defense cuts), I’d call that significant.

There is ONE plan AND ONE PLAN ONLY which has won the S&P seal of approval for keeping a AAA rating ----the CC&B.

I call it too.

It would be nice if Boehner’s believed “right” reasons were in fact “RIGHT” as in correct.

The problem here is that there is a false premise, which he is clearly being misled by. It is NOT a default on our credit rating. Our credit rating is already heading down— and it is because of the the overthetop debt ceiling raising, brought on by over spending with money we must then borrow.

Cut Cap and Balance is quite acceptable to Moody’s and S&P, and this should be our support. Boehner has agreed to something already, and he already knows it is wrong.

I was voicing concern projected from what I believe is Boehner’s “makeup” when he starts talking about doing the right things for the right reasons, like his daddy taught him.
What worries me here is the character of this probably decent man vs. a certifiable nut case marxist narcissist with whom one can NEVER do the right things because they are being misled constantly by what are said to be “the right reasons”

Don’t know if that makes sense— except that if one thinks the reasons are right (when they are in fact wrong & being provided by people who are vested from the wrong side) it is impossible to do the right thing. It is an exercise in logic which a normal emotional (or overly) man vs. a robot marxist will lose. Obama is a cold calculating lying bastard.

Well, just reading the transcript, and not having listened to the actual interview, it sure sounds like Boehner is going to cave at the earliest opportunity. Are you discussing a deal? Doesn’t answer. Instead, says we have to raise the debt ceiling to prevent interest rates from going up, blah, blah, blah.

If this guy would just get behind the freshman caucus and say, “we passed your debt ceiling increase, there it is, that’s all you get”, Obama and company would cave. Obama knows Boehner is a weak sister, so all he has to do is sit tight and Boehner give him whatever he wants. The funny thing is, will anyone in the GOP House follow Boehner’s cave-in lead?

Unlike most Freepers, I understand the need to compromise. In addition, I know cap will not get the votes. People here are dreaming that it even has a shot.

That said, if the Senate and House agree to tax increases, I don’t see why I should bother supporting them anymore. There has to be a line of what s unacceptable, and failing to make real cuts and instead raising taxes is one.
