Skip to comments.Worse Than Gunwalker? State Dept. Allegedly Sold Guns to Zetas
Posted on 07/22/2011 12:10:58 PM PDT by ZGuy
Phil Jordan, a former CIA operative and one-time leader of U.S. Drug Enforcement Administrations El Paso Intelligence Center, claims that the Obama administration is running guns to the violent Zetas cartel through the direct commercial sale of military grade weapons:
Jordan, who served as director of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administrations El Paso Intelligence Center in 1995, said the Zetas have shipped large amounts of weapons purchased in the Dallas area through El Paso.
Robert Tosh Plumlee, a former CIA contract pilot, told the Times he supported Jordans allegations, adding that the Zetas have reportedly bought property in the Columbus, N.M., border region to stash weapons and other contraband.
From the intel, it appears that a company was set up in Mexico to purchase weapons through the U.S. Direct Commercial Sales Program, and that the company may have had a direct link to the Zetas.
The U.S. Direct Commercial Sales program is run from the U.S. State Departments Directorate of Defense Trade Controls. It regulates and licenses private U.S. companies overseas sales of weapons and other defense materials, defense services, and military training. This does not include the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program, which authorized sales to foreign governments.
An El Paso Times article as of now ignored by mainstream media went into much more shocking detail:
Theyve found anti-aircraft weapons and hand grenades from the Vietnam War era, Plumlee said. Other weapons found include grenade launchers, assault rifles, handguns and military gear including night-vision goggles and body armor.
The information about the arms trafficking was provided to our U.S. authorities long before the Columbus 11′ investigation began, said Plumlee, referring to recent indictments accusing several Columbus city officials of arms trafficking in conjunction with alleged accomplices in El Paso and Chaparral, N.M.
Jesús Rejón Aguilar, the number three man in the Zetas hierarchy, disclosed last week that the Zetas bought weapons in the United States and transported them across the Rio Grande. Mexican federal authorities captured Rejón on July 3 in the state of Mexico, and presented him to the news media the next day. His recorded video statement was uploaded on YouTube.
Jordan agreed with Plumlees allegations that the Zetas are operating in the Columbus-Palomas border.
Plumlee, who has testified before U.S. congressional committees about arms and drug trafficking, said the roads in Southern New Mexico provide smugglers easy access to Mexicos highway networks.
Insight.org provides a map of the air-smuggling route originating in Dallas at Alliance Airport and ending in Columbus, New Mexico a small town that has also been rocked by the arrests and guilty pleas of the town mayor and other elected officials who were running guns to a cartel safehouse, and then apparently into Mexico.
There is no direct link made as of yet between the Columbus, NM, officials case and the allegations of the Dallas-to-Columbus air smuggling route, but the possible connection should raise eyebrows.
If these allegations can be verified: what on Earth was the State Department thinking supplying the direct sale of military weapons to a cartel front company? Weapons that were then smuggled out of the very airport used by the Drug Enforcement Agency charged with bringing down the cartels?
Anthony Martin at the Examiner brings up one of the most damning and compelling questions that the State Department and Obama administration must answer if this story is true:
The program is set up so that the sale of U.S. guns to foreign entities involve direct negotiations with the governments of those countries purchasing the weapons. The description of the program specifically states that it regulates the sale of U.S. firearms to other countries or international organizations.
How, then, did a drug cartel purchase weapons through this program when it is neither an international organization nor a government?
At The Truth About Guns, Brad Kozak opines:
The ATF was not the only ones running guns to Mexico. Apparently the State Department was playing, too. And then consider this angle was the State Department competing with the ATF for the hearts and minds of the Mexican drug trade?
If the ATF is supplying the Sinaloas (with Calderóns tacit approval and/or help) and State is playing for the Zetas, where does that leave the rest of America?
It sounds like a fictional thriller, but considering what weve already learned of Operation Fast and Furious, the Justice Department, and the possibility of even more gunrunning operations (Operation Castaway) out of DOJ, is a rival program being run out of State really a bizarre accusation?
ATF Whistleblower Speaks Out
Jun 30, 2011 - 6:15 - Vince Cefalu, who's being pushed out by the agency, discusses the botched gun operation
Fox News interview with senior agent Vince Cefalu. He says he has been terminated "along with dozens of others" (agents) due to their opposition to operation Fast and Furious. Says DoJ was intimately involved.
Gunwalker: Smoking Gun Email?
An internal ATF email seems to support the assertion that Fast and Furious was a PR stunt for gun control.
PJMs Bob Owens has long speculated that the primary reason for Operation Fast and Furious was to perpetuate the lie that 90 percent of illegal firearms in Mexico were from the United States.
Owens assertion was buoyed on Wednesday by internal ATF emails obtained by Townhall.com. One email reads:
"Can you see if these guns were all purchased from the same FfL and at one time. We are looking at anecdotal cases to support a demand letter on long gun multiple sales. Thanks Mark R. Chait Assistant Director Field Operations."
Another liberal media “non event”.
Without a doubt I believe this is exactly what she would do.
All Oboingo appointed ringers are interchangeable.
Gun running ping!
Where is Hank Schrader when you need him?
I hope to never about Iran-Contra ever again.
I just dare them to bring it up.
I wonder if one person who voted for obama has come to his senses and sees that he is deliberately trying to destroy this nation. I doubt it. They’ll believe to their dieing day he didn’t know anything about it.
It's really mind boggling.
In bed, buying rocks on the internet.
For some reason the US governemnt is picking sides inthe drug war (maybe always have)

What times we live in... :-|
“We live in interesting times.”
Hang onto your hat because I think they are about to get a lot more interesting.
Obviously more 'gunshow loophole' stuff. (/sarc, as if.)
The whole "Iron River" meme had specific gun trafficking routes, and Southern California, Texas, and the Gulf States were on their list, as well as Illinois (Illinois?, home of Chicago Justice?) (not to mention Florida, New Mexico, and Arizona).
It would be perfectly fitting with the normal M.O. of these pukes to make sure that there were indeed firearms moving through all the 'problem areas', so my bet is that there are more ops involved.
A great reminder as I need to do the same. Question for comment what do other Freepers consider indespensible for their bugout bags? Do you have one for each family memeber? Are they all the same? Should I open this as a seperate discussion topic to prevent hijacking this thread?
So this is Obama’s secret revolutionary Army? Time to run them out of NM and Arizona.
I vote for that..I think it would be a timely topic. I am curious if folks have cash, junk silver & gold, mercury dimes, or such things in their bug out bags..Or if they just have food, katadyne filters, poncho..that sort of thing.
That may explain how they are getting military weapons that are not sold over the counter.
Um...isn’t this an impeachable offense? Worse than Watergate. Worse than Iran/Contra. Worse than any other past Democrat scandal?
Why the hell isn’t any Republican jumping on this?
Where is our leadership? Do we have ANYone in the Rep Party that has the nads to confront these traitors?
So basically “our “ government is arming the invaders across the border? WTF? When DO the border states tell the Feds to ^&ck off?!!!
Wake up guys!! The South Koreans sleep peacefully on their border with the Norks courtesy the US taxpayer and Ameican GI.
why can’t New Mexicans, Arizonans, Texans and Californians?!!
Thanks for the post Zguy.
It’s truly incredible to what lengths anti-2A government control freaks will go to take firearms out of the hands of law-abiding Americans. They’re actually willing to give/sell weapons to drug cartels with full knowledge that those same weapons will be used against the law-abiding Americans they’re trying to disarm. Despicable.
GOODBYE HILLARY CLINTON..! AHHAHAHHAHAH!!!!
I’m laughing, here...!
This is the best news I’ve read all day....!!!
WHOA! Totalitarian traitors. Absolutely NOTHING would surprise me coming from the Sociopath of State.
Guess they have photos of him with barnyard animals? I'm mystified.
With at least two separate arms smuggling deals to Mexican drug cartels, from two separate cabinet departments running them, this has to have White House knowledge/approval.
This is not a couple rogue agents making the same decision during the same administration without some guidance from the Oval Office.
This whole thing makes Watergate look like a clerical error.
People have died from direct illegal activity by this administration. People need to be prosecuted and imprisoned.
This is the most black-hearted, treacherous scandal I’ve EVER heard of —ever.
Zetas Mexican drug cartel
Someone should post the Fox news original version of this article
Drudge has gone quiet on this since about the end of June.I don’t know why. I guess he will post a sirene when they are all impeached and sent to jail? Makes no sense.
DISCLAIMER to my last post PAJAMAS scooped this story and THEN Fox reported it.
LOL I was just coming to tell you that. This is a big effing deal.
The list, ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
