I just posted a thread that asserts that this was an organized terrorist act executed to weaken the European resolve- similar to what we saw in span a few years ago.

Prayers up for all injured and the families of the murdered.

What made this guy do this? Was he part of something Islamist?

Alleged Oslo Terrorists Claim Responsibility Via Jihadi Forums, YouTube

Posted on Friday, July 22, 2011 9:28:03 PM by RC one

A terrorists group has claimed responsibility for today’s attacks in Oslo, Norway—which included the bombing of the Prime Minister’s office and a massacre at a children’s day camp by a gunman dressed as a police officer—using social media.

An obscure group called Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami (Assistants of the Global Jihad) posted a message on an Islamist bulletin board called Smukh and may have uploaded a video to YouTube several days ago predicting the attack, in which at least seven people were killed.

My deepest heartfelt empathy and sympathy for you and your countrymen, Eurotwit. I do know God is not responsible for these deaths, it was evils' work. May the perp suffer unspeakable horror for each life he has taken.

Apparently the guy was dressed as a cop.
Reports say there was automatic gunfire.

We don’t know. We have a suspect who looks like he came from Nordic central casting. We also have a lengthy claim of responsibility from an AQ in Iraq leader named Abu Suleiman Al-Nasser on a highly secure jihadist website.

“No hell way this was the work of just oneguy”

One guy with enough time, money and planning (and a major screw loose), yeah, it could be done.

But I want to see how this develops. A lot of fishy things on other threads...

“It seems like a conservative who is sceptical about islam and multiculturalism.

He would fit in here at freerepublic.

I read many of his posts. He seemed smart, and I agreed with most of it. Not a hint of any aggression or murderous intent.

He had ambitions of starting a conservative print media as he didn’t like the socialist bias of the msn.

Just crazy.”

Just a thought......How many of the teens were the sons and daughters of the ruling class in Norway?
I have gathered from news reports that the PM was scheduled to give a speech to the group. These kids were not your average summer camper.

Silly to say this but remember:

Water stops bullets MUCH better than people realize:

Most bullet will stop after just 5 feet, even if fired directly down into water. At an oblique angle maybe 90% of them will splatter, or simply richocet off the surface.

As long as they don’t hit you in the head when you come up for air, mostly you’re OK.

I think for most swimming away would have provided good protection.

Just curious, but what is Norway's stance on the UN Small Arms Treaty? Ratified/refused/pending?

Holder and the Obama DOJ were likely involved in illegal activities running guns to Mexico and Latin America in what appears to be an effort to push up statistics on firearms traceable to US sources in an effort to push the treaty through in the US.

It seems odd that this event occurred, but especially at a time when that treaty is being pushed. I am deeply suspicious of tragic/terrorist events which occur with optimal timing for political advantage, especially by those who would disarm the innocent.

Flipped out. Frustrations with the evil perpetrated by one's government. That is my interpretation. Democracy as practiced today, requires a lot of tolerance for evil. Some ain't got it (the tolerance.) Such as the evil perpetrated by Dodd and Frank, to use a trivial example. Or Ted Kennedy over the years. Some boil over, while the rest of us sit back and tolerate it helplessly, because what else are we to do. But the evil so often pointed out on these very pages is real, and Robert Bork was right when he wrote Slouching Toward Gomorrah. This is not to excuse the perpetrator, but an attempt to comprehend the underlying reasons. He achieved nothing, and the message he was hoping to send will be lost. Are there better ways to send the same message? If there are it doesn't get through, either.

Yeah the UN is already working on their treaty. This will probably propel it.

How terribly misguided.

I don't think the terrorist organizations are that insane....this will be a backlash of epic proportions. No one believes that children should be massacred like that.

It was a few incidences like this in smaller numbers that turned Iraq against al-Qaida.
