Yep, I'm flawed. (proofreading being only one of my "flawls")So is everyone who has ever lived.(With the exception of Jesus) I know my limitations, I have no illusions of grandeur. nor do I have desire for leadership of anyone or anything.

I do however expect my leaders to do as they promise(or swear) to do when they take on the mantle of public office.

Who here was not upset when GHWB broke his promised "No new taxes" pledge? I certainly was!

Which is why it is a surprise to find "conservatives" supporting a candidate, who if they were the other party would be reviling them for breaking their sworn commitment.

If the shoe was on the other foot and it was a very liberal foe who quit office under pressure, they too would find fault in the liberal candidate.

If Palin supporters here were honest, they would too. I know I would. But then, I'm no hypocrite.

So then it's okay for Andrew Jackson to quit (apparently several times) but it's not okay for Palin to quit...

I could wuss out and say that it was different times and different situations ...but no.

Jackson quit his positions mainly because he found them unproductive or unsatisfying(either political or financially) Jackson rarely retreated for his enemies and when he did it was for tactical reasons. If Jackson wanted something, one had to beat him.(He wasn't called old Hickory for naught) He didn't allow his political enemies to win without a fight(Jackson took on any foes who dared and killed them...sometimes literally) He would never let his opponent run him off the field without being bloodied.

But personal, the main thing, the thing that buries itself like a tick is that she quit her office because of pressure from Left,the very F****** people who takes great glee in attacking conservatives.

She portrayed herself as an strong, tough, conservative woman yet humorous, feminine, and dare I say, very beautiful. She was the anti-Hillary, our American Maggie Thatcher.

Instead of digging and withstanding the assaults, she gave in to them. It gave endless comfort to the enemies of conservatives and conservatism and they would, if she was elected, keep using this tactic until she left office. Worked once, will work again. They could say "If we can crack the female version of Ronald Reagan, we could crack anyone on the Right.

Either by bad advice or lack of imagination she didn't but should have found resources or lawyers to fight the frivolous cases and STILL do her job. Completing her term of office.

If that D####ed Bubba could do it against REAL criminal acts and complete eight years of his presidency, she could get some conservative lawyers to dismiss those meritless lawsuits. She could have written her books to pay for the bills and still have time to get ready to run a presidential campaign.

It could be done but, for whatever reason, she didn't.(I'd like to think it was for her family)

Anyway, thank you for a real debate and not go for the cheap (and fruitless) tactic of name calling. I enjoy playing "cat and mouse games with those who do but I always enjoy a good debate on the merits.(always learn from debates, sometimes even change my opinion!)

Nowhere in the oath is there a promise not to resign,
therefore she did not "forsake" (renounce, abandon) her oath.
In fact if she was unable to "faithfully discharge [her] duties as Governor to the best of [her] ability"
then resigning was not only the honorable and responsible thing to do
but also was demanded by and a fulfillment of the oath she took.

If you expect Palin to be guided by the same moral compass as Clinton
and seek to claim Clinton's behavior superior to Palin's,
then you have a problem that is beyond my capacity to correct.

Don't be obtuse. Nowhere did I say she had to sink to Clinton's "moral compass" Only that she could have used the available resources to fight off her attacker's assaults.

If you wish a better comparsion I'll use Reagan during the Iran-Contra affair. Reagan didn't resign over that mess despite the multiple legal investigations from both the senate and house led against his administration....

There were just as many ways she could have handle these problems rather than resignation....

Palin, just as Clinton during MonicaGate or Reagan during Iran-Contra could have found some friendly conservative lawyers who could have postpone her "frivolous ethics complaints" until she fulfilled her term. She could (as she did) write a book and pay off her legal bills.

Bedtime for Bonzo despite its wacky name is not that bad a movie. I have not seen all of Reagan’s movies and no doubt he had some bad ones. He was a democrat while making his movies. He was clearly not in the first rank of movie stars but had what I would say is an above average film career. His last dramatic movie was in The Killers in 1964 which is the only time he played a bad guy. Reagan said he hated that role. That is what I seem to recall clips from that his enemies liked to use against him.
