Lincoln abolished slavery. Is Obama going to abolish the debt?

During a discussion with college students at the University of Maryland last week

Only in a room full of "students" who have no clue as to any history beyond the last 5 years of their lives, and who were all probably busy texting, can someone make such an outlandish, ridiculous, slanderous statement that equates fiscal restraint with being pro-slavery.

He was nicknamed “Honest Abe” for the same reason some big muscular guys are called “Tiny.”

Exactly.

Why this man has been raised to the staus of a demi-god eludes me. I often wonder what the national consciousness has been smoking. He “fundamentally transformed” the nation, with methods that are far from admirable, and sowed the seeds of the increasing slavery and national dysfunction we now see.

Nice words. Nice monument. I suppose that should be enough, shouldn’t it. /s

So, who is he supposedly “freeing” in this fight? It certainly isn’t the country in general, or even HALF the country, or even any of its citizen taxpayers!

The question is:

Is he just plain stupid, or is he pandering to his stupid constituants?

Exactly. I was going to say, “except Lincoln tried to free the slaves and Obama wants to make us all slaves>”

By ignoring the Constitution, declaring war on half of America, and deliberately destroying the economy and private property, especially that belonging to those who oppose him?

Yeah, sounds like Lincoln alright.

I knew Lincoln (historically) and you’re no Lincoln...

Right era, but more like Karl Marx......

“So he plans on starting an unnecessary hot war?”

I’ve seen that posted many times here, even going back to when he first was inaugurated.

His speeches indicate a very firm narcissism, and his history indicates that he has never matured. His lack of background information gives no track record as to his ideology, except class warfare. His disregard for the Constitution, combined with the above, lead many to believe that he would in fact, cotton to the idea of a civil war (no pun intended).

I’ve seen it posted at various forums, that there are a growing number of folks who think that if he were to get too far behind in the elections, civil unrest is what his administration would provoke, not the type we experienced in the civil war, but the type that Russia, France, Vietnam, and China experience in their civil war, with martial law being declared, and his presidency extended by caveat.

For those that think this would not happen because it would cause a red-state blue-state conflict of arms, many think that is EXACTLY the goal.

Does not at least one of those idiot kids have enough knowledge of history and the law to know that Lincoln did not have the authority to free the slaves in the territories that had remained loyal to the Union? The only reason he could free the slaves in the Confederacy was because he had war powers in these areas. If the Emancipation Proclamation had applied to the entire country, it would have been struck down immediately by the Supreme Court as violating the takings clause of the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution.
