Pro-Rick Perry radio ads hit Iowa
Politico ^ | July 26, 2011 | MAGGIE HABERMAN

GrowPAC, a group founded by former New York Senate candidate David Malpass, will air radio ads in Iowa urging people to write Perry's name onto the Ames straw poll ballot.

"President Obama is making things worse. We need a president who will stop this," Malpass says in the spot. "Iowa has a chance to turn things around for America. At the Ames Straw Poll write in Rick Perry, he can win and make America secure again. I worked for Ronald Reagan and I know how countries create growth and jobs. Let’s give Rick Perry a chance." Continue Reading

The 60-second ads will air in stations in the markets surrounding Ames, officials said.

While Iowa GOP officials decided not to include Perry's name on the straw poll ballot, they permitted a write-in slot that at least makes it possible for Perry to register support. The write-in option is being allowed for the first time, and GrowPAC's Malpass made clear they plan to make the most of it.

hocndoc: "Perhaps if you had to get a repeat pap smear -
or had the outer layer of cells removed by laser, freezing,
burning or scalpel - of the analogous organ,
you would try harder - or appreciate the net benefit.."

Thank you for the educated response, but this has NOTHING to do
with forcing an untested drug of dubious benefit on children
by Gov. Perry's Executive Order. THAT is the issue

hocndoc: "All childhood vaccines require informed consent
from the parent since minors may not consent for medical care in Texas."

This also has NOTHING to do either
with forcing an untested drug of dubious benefit on children
by the Gov. Perry's Executive Order. Also, childhood vaccines
have NOTHING to do with Gardasil either -- and you know why.

hocndoc: "Better than relative risk for cervical cancer is the
“Number Needed to Treat” (NNT) for HPV infection.
The value of any NNT is relative to the costs of the treatment,
but we consider efficacy at anything under 100 -
we just have to decide whether it’s “worth it.”
The NNT for Gardasil is about 18, meaning that 18 girls
get the shot to prevent one infection. We don’t know the incidence of
nuclear changes due to those infections, but we do know the
cost of whatever percentage there is."

Nonsense. This has NOTHING to do medicine.
THIS POV (point of view) is used by government, PerryCARE, RomneyCARE
and the drug companies to force treatment on the unwilling.
Informed consent should only have to do
with the individual considering treatment -- and no one else.

hocndoc: "Consider the cost of one to two repeat paps immediately
and then the high risk that there are still changes present that are not
yet detectable, so the girl or woman must have a pap every 3 to
6 months times 3 then each year for the rest of her life as well as the
treatment of precancerous changes that have led to that significant
drop in cervical cancer, and of the cancers themselves.
The financial cost is enormous, as are the numbers of the lost
pregnancies and premature births resulting from damage to the cervix from conization, laser-,cryo-, and electro-therapy."

THIS is disingenuous. You are using Gardasil to imply
that promiscuous women (the right group to use it) will no longer
need PAP smears.
You know that this promotes a sense of false protection.

hocndoc: "Yes - the Pap smear is solely for the purpose of
looking for cellular/nuclear changes consistent with precancerous
or cancerous cells. We use wet prep microscope slides and
other tests for other STD’s. Finding those other conditions
can invalidate the test and are reported, but that is not the
reason for the pap smear. Irritation will cause inflammation,
but not nuclear changes consistent with precancerous state."

The purpose of a Pap smear [Papanikolaou Test]
is also to detect abnormal, precancerous, or cancerous cells,
chemical, hormonal, or infectious change and etiology
from the cervix (and other areas). The latter include
Trichomonas, Candida, and Herpes.
Furthermore, there are better systems than PAP smears.
Are you using two or more levels of screening?

hocndoc: "Yes, virtually all cervical precancerous changes -
found at the pap smear or not -are secondary to HPV infection.
The percentage of clear cell cancers due to mom’s exposure to
DES is small enough to make that 99.7% statistic valid. "

Not true. There are adenocarcinoma,
squamous cell carcinoma and other tumors
(soft tissue sarcomata including an array of types, right?)
that are NOT the result of HPV.

hocndoc: "The fact that the vaccine is not 100% is not a good argument.
The flu shot has a 5% failure rate.
As to the multiple strains: yes, there are many strains of the virus,
but 16 and 18 cause 70% of precancerous/cancerous changes
and 11/14 cause about 90% of the genital warts.
All vaccinations involve informed consent forms, signed
by the parent or patient. Minors may not consent for vaccinations in Texas."

It is a good argument when the untested medication is
FORCED on children who do not need it.

About 15 of the 40 to 150 types of HPV
have been linked to cervical cancer.
Gardasil “protects” against the 4 Types that have the highest
correlation with cancer and genital warts.
Gardasil does not grant full immunity to those 4 Types of HPV.
Gardasil offers no protection against the other
strains of HPV that have been linked to cervical cancer.

Since there is no benefit for non promiscuous girls
you seem to avoid the actual equation substituting your handwaving.
The NET Benefit of a medical treatment is

NET BENEFIT = (Risk with NO treatment)*(the net benefit of the treatment) - (The risk of harm).

hocndoc, you have posted false and disingenuous statements
about medicine, pathology, and oncology.

You have ignored patients rights in favor
of RINO Perry’s initiative of MANDATED MEDICINE.

In fact, given an opportunity to respond to information
(posts 75 and 81, for example) you have proven
me incorrect for having mistaken you for an
educated person.

Hopefully, you only play a ‘doc’ in the
Perry campaign on TV.

Dude, seriously, you see the ghost of Slick Mitty everywhere - most notably even with conservatives Bachmann and Perry.

My one simple question - what is your backup plan if one of the following two scenarios play out ....?

a) Sarah Palin chooses not to run and endorses Governor Perry for POTUS; or
b) Sarah Palin runs in the primary and does not win the nomination (but someone other than Mitt does)

You were posting false “medical info” on FreeRepublic

Mandate of a partially reliable, then untested,

Which reference would you specifically deny as “false ‘medical info?” Do you have better sources? Or is it only that you *feel* like my sources must be wrong, since they contradict your passionate biases?

You’ve had days to review the CDC VAERS, to refute that the opt-out process was made easier by the Governor’s EO, or to find any data other than the same old emotional spam you put up on every Perry thread you find.

You do not understand
1) that the Governor has supervisory duties over those Departments and Agencies within the Executive Branch of the State of Texas, or that
2)the Legislature had given the Department of State Health Services full authority to designate those vaccines as mandatory - like the mandatory Hepatitis B vaccine given to neonates and infants or the mandatory Chicken Pox vaccine which can only be justified by economic means (it keeps mom and dad at work) and which (like the Hepatitis A and Measles vaccines) is manufactured in human cell cultures harvested from aborted infants,
3)that there were 10 years of testing of the components of Gardasil in 2007 and the vaccine had been deemed effective and approved by one of the most conservative FDA panels (Which had been vilified for that conservative slant),
4)That making Gardasil mandatory actually would have cost the manufacturer money, since all of the parents who are now paying full retail price for the vaccine would have called on their insurance coverage, with its lower reimbursement,
5) the rest of what you cut and paste (and inaccurately editorialize about) from very poor, non-medical sites.

Show me better sources before you call mine false and say I lie.

You gave no 'references' to your incorrect statements.
You just make false statements.

FACT: Despite hocndoc's false statements, Gardasil DOES NOT PROTECT FROM CERVICAL CANCER

There are over 40 Types of HPV, and 15 of them
have been linked to cervical cancer and/or genital warts.
Gardasil has been developed to vaccinate
against the 4 Types that have the highest
correlation with cancer and genital warts.
However, unlike the smallpox vaccine, for example,
Gardasil does not grant full immunity to those 4 Types of HPV.
Gardasil offers no protection against the other
11 strains of HPV that have been linked to cervical cancer. "

FACT: Despite hocndoc's false statements, Gardasil DOES NOT PROTECT FROM THE NEED FOR PAP SMEARS

FACT: Despite hocndoc's false statements, Gardasil is NOT 100% effective.

FACT: Despite hocndoc's false statements, the equation for the NET Benefit of a medical treatment is
NET BENEFIT = (Risk with NO treatment)*(the net benefit of the treatment) - (The risk of harm).

FACT Despite hocndoc's false statements, the RINO Perry ordered Gardasil by MANDATE

In 2007, when Texas governor Rick Perry issued
an executive order that all girls entering the 6th grade
would receive Gardasil, parents were furious.
Some argued that the vaccine would promote promiscuity.
The order was eventually overturned."

" Critics rip Perry's vaccine mandate
Governor rejects opponents' calls to reverse order
AUSTIN - Gov. Rick Perry stood firm Monday against a political firestorm generated by his
order that sixth-grade girls be inoculated against a sexually transmitted virus linked to cervical cancer.
Social conservatives from Texas to Washington called on Perry to reverse his order making
Texas the first state to require the vaccine, saying the mandate makes sex seem permissible
and that parents should be the ones to decide whether to immunize their daughters.
And several Texas lawmakers expressed outrage at Perry for circumventing the legislative process. "

"RP65 - Relating to the immunization of young women
from the cancer-causing Human Papillomavirus.
Friday, February 02, 2007 o Executive Order
BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF TEXAS
Rules. The Health and Human Services Executive Commissioner
shall adopt rules that mandate the age appropriate vaccination
of all female children for HPV prior to admission to the sixth grade."

The definition of mandate is a command by a person,
group, or organization (the 'mandator') to another
(the 'mandatary') to act in a particular way, or here
to ingest, inject, imbed a poison or other substance
they do not want and for which informed consent was
never taken.

The main problem with Gardasil seems to be the equivalent of a design flaw.
To be completely immunized, women have
to get a series of three shots over six months.
Many women don't.
The Centers for Disease Control reported in late
August that while 44% of teenagers received the HPV vaccine in 2009,
only 27% of them received all three doses of the shot.
Unfortunately, there isn't evidence to support
that getting only one shot effectively protects against cancer. "

hocndoc: "You’ve had days to review the CDC VAERS,
to refute that the opt-out process was made easier by the Governor’s EO,
or to find any data other than the same old emotional spam you
put up on every Perry thread you find."

CDC: "As of June 22, 2011, approximately 35 million doses of Gardasil®
were distributed in the U.S. and VAERS received a total
of 18,727 reports of adverse events

As of June 22, 2011 there have been a total 68 VAERS reports
of death among those who have received Gardasil®."

"Foaming at the mouth, shock, seizures, paralysis,
coma-even death have been reported
as a result of taking the vaccine Gardasil from Merck ... "

Bottom LINE:
FACT: Despite hocndoc's false statements, Governor RINO Rick Perry MANDATED Gardasil.

See? you don't understand what you copy and paste.

Perhaps your emotions blind you, or, it could be that you don't read any more of the references than the bits you post on these threads. I'm going to post more complete data for the benefit of those who are interested.

First, remember that the Governor is the head of the Executive Branch, charged by the citizens of Texas with overseeing the State Department of Health Services, which had statutory authority to mandate vaccines (and still does, other than this one vaccine, for which the Legislature wrote a special law). The Governor irritated various special interests by ordering public education on the vaccine and making the opt out process easier.

Public Information. The Department of State Health Services will implement a public awareness campaign to educate the public of the importance of vaccination, the availability of the vaccine, and the subsequent requirements under the rules that will be adopted.
Parents’ Rights. The Department of State Health Services will, in order to protect the right of parents to be the final authority on their children’s health care, modify the current process in order to allow parents to submit a request for a conscientious objection affidavit form via the Internet while maintaining privacy safeguards under current law.

Secondly, I wrote about the burden of repeat paps and treatment for HPV changes and did not say that Paps, pelvic exams and STD surveillance were not necessary. However, since the admission that HPV causes 99.3% of all precancerous and cancerous changes, the guidelines for first Pap and for routine surveillance have changed. From the CDC:

When to Get Screened
You should start getting regular Pap tests at age 21, or within three years of the first time you have sex—whichever happens first. The Pap test, which screens for cervical cancer, is one of the most reliable and effective cancer screening tests available.
The only cancer for which the Pap test screens is cervical cancer. It does not screen for ovarian, uterine, vaginal, or vulvar cancers. So even if you have a Pap test regularly, if you notice any signs or symptoms that are unusual for you, see a doctor to find out why you're having them. In addition to the Pap test—the main test for cervical cancer—the HPV test may also be used to screen women aged 30 years and older, or women of any age who have unclear Pap test results. If you are 30 years old or older and your screening tests are normal, your chance of getting cervical cancer in the next few years is very low. For that reason, your doctor may tell you that you will not need another screening test for up to three years. But you should still go to the doctor regularly for a check-up that may include a pelvic exam.
It is important for you to continue getting a Pap test regularly—even if you think you are too old to have a child, or are not having sex anymore. If you are older than 65 and have had normal Pap test results for several years, or if you have had your cervix removed (during an operation called a hysterectomy), your doctor may tell you it is okay to stop getting regular Pap tests.
For more information, please read the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force overview of cervical cancer screening recommendations.

Those symptoms you've pasted as a reaction to the vaccine are very common for any medical procedure (or even in some people who witness or think about such procedures, the reason that I require med students and residents to sit when they proctor observe while I do circumcisions), and the bulk are due to vaso-vagal motor responses to anxiety about the body, "fainting." See this reference:The patient experiences a brief loss of consciousness, preceded by a sense of anticipation. First, there is a period of sympathetic tone, with increased pulse and blood pressure, in anticipation of some stressful incident, such as bad news, an upsetting sight, or a painful procedure. Immediately following the stressful occurrence, there is a precipitous drop in sympathetic tone, pulse and blood pressure, causing the victim to fall down or lose consciousness. Transient bradycardia and few clonic limb jerks may accompany vasovagal syncope.

From the CDC review, updated June 28, 2011

Reports to VAERS Following Gardasil®
As of June 22, 2011, approximately 35 million doses of Gardasil® were distributed in the U.S. and VAERS received a total of 18,727 reports of adverse events following Gardasil® vaccination: 17,958 reports among females and 346 reports for males, of which 285 reports were received after the vaccine was licensed for males in October 2009. VAERS has received 423 reports were of unknown gender. Of the total number of VAERS reports following Gardasil®, 92% were considered to be non-serious, and 8% were considered serious.*

Non-serious adverse event reports
VAERS defines non-serious adverse events as those other than hospitalization, death, permanent disability, or life-threatening illness.

The vast majority (92%) of the adverse events reports following Gardasil® vaccination have included fainting, pain, and swelling at the injection site (the arm), headache, nausea, and fever. Syncope (fainting) is common after injections and vaccinations, especially in adolescents. Falls after fainting may sometimes cause serious injuries, such as head injuries, which can be prevented by closely observing the person for 15 minutes after vaccination.

Serious adverse event reports
Any VAERS report that indicated hospitalization, permanent disability, life-threatening illness, congenital anomaly or death is classified as serious. As with all VAERS reports, serious events may or may not have been caused by the vaccine.

Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS)
Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) has been reported after vaccination with Gardasil® . GBS is a rare neurologic disorder that causes muscle weakness. It occurs in 1-2 out of every 100,000 people in their teens. A number of infections have been associated with GBS. There has been no indication that Gardasil® increases the rate of GBS above the rate expected in the general population, whether or not they were vaccinated.

Blood Clots
There have been some reports of blood clots in females after receiving Gardasil®. These clots have occurred in the heart, lungs, and legs. Most of these people had a risk of getting blood clots, such as taking oral contraceptives (the birth control pill), smoking, obesity, and other risk factors.

"Deaths
As of June 22, 2011 there have been a total 68 VAERS reports of death among those who have received Gardasil® . There were 54 reports among females, 3 were among males, and 11 were reports of unknown gender. Thirty two of the total death reports have been confirmed and 36 remain unconfirmed due to no identifiable patient information in the report such as a name and contact information to confirm the report. A death report is confirmed (verified) after a medical doctor reviews the report and any associated records. In the 32 reports confirmed, there was no unusual pattern or clustering to the deaths that would suggest that they were caused by the vaccine and some reports indicated a cause of death unrelated to vaccination. "

While on a church mission to the Phillipines a young man from here in Texas I know met a young lady. They fell in love and were recently married here in the US. She is a fantastic person. Both of them are.

Some bonehead convinced her to get this Guardasil garbage. Even though she was a virgin when they married and was unlikely to be with anyone else she got the vaccine. Since then she has had terrible headaches. She never had a headache before in her life.

They are a couple of great kids. Don't smoke, drink, do drugs and forget about tatooes and piercings. And they just got some great news, she is pregnant. So besides being morning sick she has these damn headaches. All of us are convinced that it is the Guardasil. All one has to do is google Guardasil and headaches to see there is a problem.

The issue here is that Perry, after THINKING about it, MANDATED via executive order that this crap be injected in to young Texan girls. Why? Because he is some fellow interested in the well being of these women? Hell no! Just like the TTC and just about ever damn thing Perry has done he is looking for money in the pocket or money down the road from someone like Cintra. It is no secret that Perry never expected to stay gov. so long. But he has. Why? Because he is some kind of uber-conservative? Another Ronald Reagan?

Nah! Perry is no conservative. The reason he has been re-elected is that he is the big douche running against turd sandwiches, borrow a line from South Park (and the image above).

Perry never expected to get this far in office. Because of this he was always looking for his dollars outside of politics. Why? Because the guy really has no major skills besides politics. He has become pretty good at the political thing with help but president? Rick Perry? Gads no. Unless? Unless? (Wait for it)... Unless he is once again the big douche running against the turd sandwich. That is what he is looking at. So if the candidates stay as they are today and "you know who" does not jump in then Perry will throw his hat, er, hair in the race. Because going against Obama will not be a lot fo work. Just like all of Perry's re-elections.

So, we may end up with a big douche for president. A douche like Perry but that is better than the turd sanwich in the White House now.

I can see how passionate your feelings are. However, conservative law and policy can't be based on feelings or personal dislike.

I don't post false political or medical information. In fact, my information is more complete than yours and has medical, not news or activist/blog references.

You quoted: hocndoc: "Secondly, I wrote about the burden of repeat paps and treatment for HPV changes and did not say that Paps, pelvic exams and STD surveillance were not necessary.

You missed the "repeat" before the comment about positive paps (at least 3 in the next year) in there and show no evidence that you understand the guidelines calling for less frequent and fewer lifetime paps. The "burden" is infertility due to treatment of the cervix and the psychological toll that the stress of diagnosis and the waiting, in addition to the potential life-time risk of the sequelae of the infection.
