Reid Calls GOP Debt Bill 'Dead on Arrival' as White House Threatens Veto (Reid's bill is also dead)
Fox News ^ | 7/26/2011 | fox news

Posted on 07/26/2011 3:02:40 PM PDT by tobyhill

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid warned Tuesday that the House Republicans' deficit-reduction bill is "dead on arrival" in his chamber, as the Obama administration issued a formal veto threat and pushed lawmakers to reach a "compromise." At the same time, House conservatives began to peel off from the bill being pushed by House Speaker John Boehner.

White House officials appeared to hold back earlier Tuesday when asked whether President Obama would veto the GOP bill, which could be voted on in the House as early as Wednesday. Later, the administration issued what's known as a "statement of administration policy" saying the president's advisers "would recommend that he veto this bill" should it clear Congress.

I think after Moodys downgrades our bonds next week...everyone will have a fresh new attitude about these issues. Once you into the business of hustling up bonds....you should have always considered the consequences when you spent too much money.

I can handle this far better than being sold out by the leadership. Back to Cut, Cap and Balance, or simply hold and cut. Any way you slice it, somebody has to neuter the spenders.

Keep in mind 1 thing:

They no longer want a tax increase because it is immediate and it is fiscal contraction. Do that to a teetering economy and unemployment will explode further, and that’s that for re-election.

So make no mistake here, this is not and never has been about taxes. It’s about spending, and frankly, a sharp cut to FY2012 spending is ALSO fiscal contraction and will spike unemployment.

It’s beyond salvation.

Leaving himself an out, huh? I'm beginning to anticipate another of those sore loser speeches like the one we heard after he lost the Bush tax cut extension vote. He's finally figured out that if he vetoes the bill and puts us into default, the public isn't going to look past the last guy to touch it while searching for someone to blame.

Boehner needs to go national with the following message:

“We in the House have submitted three proposals to cut back spending and try to get our nation`s fiscal house in some semblance of order. And three times we`ve met nothing but a brick wall from the President and the Senate.

“We steadfastly refuse to subject Americans to yet a deeper tax bite when in actuality there is enough revenue coming in to Federal coffers. Going forward, we are standing pat with the cut-cap-balabce legislation passed a week ago. We urge all Americans to contact their Senators and urge them to vote on and pass CCB forthwith. The House has completed its work on this matter.”

I believe tomorrow Boehner will get the votes he needs and we'll see if the Senate Rats kill it and/or Obama vetoes it? If the House passes it and the Rats block it then the GOP can put it back on Obama and Reid for rejecting their offer and they don't have to accept Reid's offer.

Whatever happens with this legislation, there’s lots of new taxes and spending built into Obamacare and the ‘Bush’ tax cuts are scheduled to expire again in 2012.

The demagoguery is breathtaking. Of course President Obama cannot veto the “GOP” bill, even if he wanted to. By definition, any bill that reached his desk would have had to have been approved by a Democrat-controlled Senate, which would make it - again, by definition - a bi-partisan bill. And any bill that made it to his desk would be signed by the President - unless the Democrat strategy was to pass a bill that Obama will veto. In other words, Reid is not going to pass a bill that Obama vetoes except on purpose.

What is most instructive is that the President and his minions are cynical enough to believe that their voting base is too stupid to understand the above.

They are correct on that point, IMO. I believe the average Obama voter does not understand our Constitutional process.

I am very concerned that very few people are talking about the utter BULLSH1T that the spending cuts will be spread out over 10 years. You and I both know that has very little chance of happening. Way to much water gonna go under the bridge during that time.

IMHO, Boehner, et al should concentrate on FY2012 cuts and be vicious about it. Neither he nor anyone else has ANY control over what happens after FY2012.

Time after time Washington has put out smoke and mirrors BS like this. Remember the $300m+ in cuts that ended up being just $30mil+ after the smoke cleared? What a joke! I say it’s time to stop with the happy talk and get serious about cutting. Fire up the chainsaw!

Jerry Clowers did a comedy routine years ago about a fella up a tree at night fighting with a bob cat. A friend was on the ground with a gun but was afraid to shoot for fear he might accidentally hit his friend in the tree. The fella up the tree said "Just shoot anyway! One of us has got to have some relief!" That's the way some of are starting to feel. Just close your eyes and shoot, d*** it!

But, we gotta keep fighting. We can't let them win!

Yup, we are screwed short term no matter what. But the Keynesian analysis doesn’t hold long term, higher spending creates only worthless government jobs which cripple the economy. So you have to take the bitter pill.

I think I agree with you. Obama is hardly exhibiting profound concern, is a bore when speaking of the issue and in general appears done with the presidency except for what he can bring down before he leaves office. Like the country. These are communists and they seem to be in a hurry pretending they care about default, which would only serve to strengthen their hand in undoing the country, making it easier to fundamentally change the USA, IF you can get it done while still in power.

Does the man not make any of his own decisions? We need to know just who these advisers are. Carney is referred to as an “adviser” most of the time instead of a press secretary.
