Years ago, I worked at a plant that no longer exists, for a company that has been severely reduced in size. I worked in the same office as the department clerk. He was a nice guy, went to church, gave to all the fund drives at work, was polite, patriotic, etc.

One day, I was arguing against abortion. He said, explicitly, that he approved of it because it kept the welfare rolls and criminals down. Except he used the ‘n’ word, so we know who he was talking about. I could never quite feel the same way about him after that.

I remember a really good editorial page cartoon in the Tampa Tribune (Wayne Stayskal) many years ago that had a man, with a fist formed and an angry scowl on his face, screaming up at God saying, “Why haven't you ever sent anyone who could cure cancer or fix all the other problems we have in this world?!”. To which God's replied back, “I did, you aborted them.”
