Boehner: 'Get your ass in line' By: Jake Sherman and John Bresnahan July 27, 2011 09:55 AM EDT

Scrambling for votes on his troubled deficit package, Speaker John Boehner told GOP lawmakers Wednesday morning to “get your ass in line” behind his debt ceiling bill, saying the Senate will fold and pass it.

“This is the bill,’ Boehner said in a closed-door meeting of House Republicans on Wednesday morning. “I can’t do this job unless you’re behind me.”

Boehner was forced to postpone the vote until Thursday after the Congressional Budget Office said it fell $150 billion short of the $1 trillion goal. Many GOP lawmakers are still undecided whether they will back the measure.

Boehner also predicted Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (Nev.) and Senate Democrats will have to pass his proposal once the House does. Reid has an alternate plan to cut $2.7 trillion.

“If this gets chaotic, they (the Senate) will fold like a cheap suit,” Boehner said, according to GOP sources.

We’re on the same page Aria.

We may have missed that opportunity. Boehner and the gang of 6 undermined CCB.

Speaker Boehner, Leadership 101 suggests that the quickest way to get people behind you is merely to step to the front.

Pull a fast one and send the Cut Cap and Balance to the Senate again instead. They won’t read it and it’s a better bill.

Reid’s plan uses money that would result from ending the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.

The Republicans control the purse strings, so they control the budget. Obama and the Senate can just piss up a rope.

He did not help his cause when the CBO numbers came out on his plan. The “phantom” numbers were not even what Bonehead and Cantor have been sprewing over the airways. If one is going to put out a sham plan, at least make sure the sham plan numbers are accurate.

-- The Senate has not even brought CC&B up for debate or a vote yet. --

Senate Roll Call Vote No. 116 22-Jul H.R. 2560 On the Motion to Table Agreed to Motion to Table the Motion to Proceed to Consider H.R. 2560; A bill to cut, cap, and balance the Federal budget.

The Senate has formally said, by roll call vote, that it won't even CONSIDER taking the bill up.

I am glad for the Tea Party coalition holding the line on spending, but I also think we must avoid “Alinsky-iting” the man. Hussein would triumph in the case of a split Republican party, as the WSJ points out.

The Senate has formally said, by roll call vote, that it won't even CONSIDER taking the bill up.

Then it should be very clear to everybody, thanks to Republicans shouting over and over and over from the rooftops about this Senate stonewalling, that the crisis of a looming government shutdown lays squarely with Harry Reid and the Senate.

The Republicans ARE shouting this from the rooftops, right?

I challenge the hard-nosers on FR to become a Congressman and get ANY bill passed that we conservatives are 100% happy with...

We can’t even convince EACH OTHER on FR who the best Presidential candidate is, can you imagine trying to get 220 Congressman and 51 Senators, and a President on top of that to all support a bill?

I agree. Isn't it sad that us well-informed FReepers who have all the knowledge, principles, high morals, and answers to all problems, still disagree. Thankfully, there are no consequences when we are wrong...and we never have to stand for re-election! LOL!

He actually said that? How crude.

Crude or not...he put it into words that they understand. :)

You want crude? We can be thankful he didn't have to put it into words that Sheila Jackson-Lee would understand. LOL!

At this point I would go one step further. Give the Bambster his clean bill with a DC increase based on CBO figures for government spending requirements over the next 6 month. Nothing for anything new, just enough to keep the doors open until a new budget can be passed. See if he vetoes it, which I think he will because his ultimate plan is to collapse the economy and blame it on the GOP in general and the Tea Party specifically to scare Indies back into the fold for 2012. If he does veto it then at that point he has no credibility left and should be hammered on it. If he signs it then the GOP goes back to work putting together a budget with REAL cuts in it and dare the Democrats to table it. If they do then we right back here again just as the next election cycle is starting up, which puts O’Bama right where he doesn’t want to be.
