Reports: House GOP lining up behind Boehner’s plan (the GOP has sold the tea party out)

[T]he opposition bloc led by [Jim] Jordan appears to be crumbling, as leadership’s message seems to be sinking in. Sources tells NRO that a number of members who were confirmed no votes against the Boehner plan announced during the meeting that they would be voting yes. One of those members, Rep. Blake Farenthold (R., Texas) told reporters that while he would like to “snap my fingers and change the world like ‘I Dream of Genie’ of Samantha on ‘Bewitched,’” Republicans “need to take what we can get.”…

I sure I will be burnt at the conservative stake for this, but this is how I feel about this: we saved the Union from doom with the last election. We elected a bunch of folks to carry our “we are pissed” message. They have moved the whole Congress and President. We need to cash in now even though we did not get all we wanted. We will have another fight in November with the next debt limit vote and we can use this for the next election. The next election is where we can get the total win. We need to be patient.

I read earlier today that if 28 Republicans bolted, Boner’s plan wouldn’t pass.

What is the size of the TEA Party caucus in the House? My memory is that it’s considerably more than 28.

If the headline is true, then I would say that the so-called TEA Party members have gone RINO; not that the GOP has in some way abandoned them.

“One thing Ryan said was McConnell absolutely pulled the rug out from under them when he shot his mouth off. They had momentum.
As far as the Boehner plan, Ryan is saying that the cuts must become law before the debt ceiling is raised, so it is not giving money to Obama with “promises” of future cuts.”

He also said (paraphrasing) that he is very concerned about the prospect of a credit collapse under Obama in particular, since it could trigger very unfortunate reactions by the regime.

Right, and the law will put the spending cuts off to "the out years," as it always does. Shirley, you don't really believe future congresses are going to follow through on any future spending cuts put into legislation by this one?

Why in the hell doesn’t someone with some spine in House come forward and just tell obama:

We have put forward our plan, now it’s YOUR turn to DETAIL yours. The House will forego any action until you have done so.

Put the POS on the defensive.

(Unfortunately Boehner is probably too busy sobbing and boozing in the cloak room)

No tax increases.

Wrong!!! The tax increases are built into Obamacare and the 'Bush' tax cuts will expire again in 2012.

The 'No tax increase and budget cuts over 10 years are both BS lies. Big lies!

No, I’m ready for a third party. If the so called “tea party” sponsered Republicans cave this quickly I’m done with them all. I’d rather build a party from scratch then stay within this group anymore. If Palin would announce a run for third party right now I’d support her. Hell, I think I might be willing to switch my support to her now. I was leaning Perry because he has a better shot to win I think but win...what? I don’t give a damn about putting Republicans in control just to sell us out.

imho a constitutional amendment to force the feds to have a balanced budget will have to wait until after 2012 when a pubbie will be in the whitehouse.

anyone paying attention to the fed would recognize that these days they are doing double duty bundling fiscal and monetary policy into one.

It very much looks like they’re doing a better job of it.

All the congress has to do is impliment a balanced budget policy in 2012 and the pubbie administration turn the USA into a net oil exporter and the dollar, the US balance of payments, federal revenues and a whole host of other bad things happening now will right themselves.

This whole thing is contrived baloney. The House of Representatives is responsible for initiating all spending bills. The place to start is not with phony deficit reduction bills that never seem to be observed if passed.

The solution is for the Republicans in the House to pass an annual budget bill with lots of cuts in the right places. That is where the real savings will come into play. Make drastic cuts to next year’s budget, and then keep doing the same each year. Of course Obama would veto any budget that got through the House and Senate. Fine. Then do not pass any continuing resolution bills. Rather, let the government shut itself down. Obama would cave. I know Gingrich tried this and it backfired. However, times are very different now.

The way Ryan explained it, they would be putting hard caps in place, a method that was successful in the 90's. As I understood it, currently, nothing stops some agencies from exceeding their budgets. This bill would place caps on spending that would require a future congress to pass a law to remove it. Possible, but much more difficult.

This 'budget cuts over the next 10 years' is the biggest BS lie I have ever seen!!!

The current 112th Congress is responsible for the Federal FY 2012 and 2013 budgets.

The 113th Congress will be responsible for the FY2014 and 2015 budgets. That Congress will pass the lows for those years. The 112th Congress has no requirement or authority to pass laws relevant to the FY2014 and 2015 budgets.

The same is true for all future Congresses, budgets and laws.

This 'budget cuts over the next 10 years' is a total BS lie!
