Boehner to GOP members: 'Get your ass in line'
CNN ^ | July 27th, 2011 | CNN Congressional Producer Deirdre Walsh

Posted on 07/27/2011 5:13:31 PM PDT by Tulsa Ramjet

Washington (CNN) – House Speaker John Boehner leveled tough words at fellow Republicans Wednesday, telling conservatives who are unhappy his bill doesn't go far enough to "Get your ass in line."

Boehner's admonishment came during a closed-door meeting, during which House GOP leaders sought to rally support for their debt bill, according to two Republican sources who attended the meeting.

The Ohio Republican told members he was working hard and didn't want to turn around and not see an army behind him.

House Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia also said it was time to pull together and pass the House GOP debt bill, instead of feeding a storyline that pits Republican against Republican.

But the meeting turned into exactly that-a venting session with Republicans turning on each the other-and exposing an ugly split among the rank and file.

Mr. Speaker, a dictum like that is why we are where we are. Too many lemmings getting in line. You are out of line. Victory snatched from the jaws of defeat.

“Get your ass in line”, code for “get your inner democrat in line” and vote to make the issue go away until after the election.

Obama awakened the sleeping giant, but RINOs are providing it with lots of caffeine.

Laura Ingraham got the man of the hour on her show this morning, who confirmed that he did indeed tell the House Republican caucus to “get their asses in line” to pass his debt-ceiling proposal — once the rewrite comes in. Speaker John Boehner also explained how he and Mitch McConnell would keep the deficit-reduction commission it creates from raising taxes, especially — as Boehner reminds us — some tax hikes are already in place. Boehner explains that he wants to push the Cut, Cap, and Balance Act, but he wants to make sure that he and a Republican Senate...

Boehner: 'Get your ass in line' By: Jake Sherman and John Bresnahan July 27, 2011 09:55 AM EDT Scrambling for votes on his troubled deficit package, Speaker John Boehner told GOP lawmakers Wednesday morning to “get your ass in line” behind his debt ceiling bill, saying the Senate will fold and pass it. “This is the bill,’ Boehner said in a closed-door meeting of House Republicans on Wednesday morning. “I can’t do this job unless you’re behind me.” Boehner was forced to postpone the vote until Thursday after the Congressional Budget Office said it fell $150 billion short of the...

The Speaker should be reminded that he enjoys his position only at the will and desire of the GOP. He is there to represent their caucus not to tell the GOP what to do.

Look, the Republicans under Boehner have won. Obama is marginalized and even Reid is planning to save $2.7 trillion. If we pull off a deal at the last minute before U.S. bond ratings fall - even for the brief period they would - it would make Obama look even more ineffective.

We are winning because we are reversing the spending model of government. Like any big machine, there's a lot of inertia to overcome.

Boehner I believe, is the first House Speaker who can't say
"Do what I want and you'll get x zillion dollars for your district."

"Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. but it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."
Or so they tell us...

Did Laura fawn all over him, gushing with “little girl” emotions? “Oh, I’m so thrilled to have Speaker Boner on my show today! Oooooh!”

Boner (pronounced bay-ner) and McConnell are going to keep the commission from raising taxes? He’s sure they’re going to be in office years from now? Sadly he’s probably right.

Boehner is absolutely WORTHLESS! We have got to get rid of these people who just can't stand the thought of not being able to spend more and more money! $850 billion over 10 years???? Are you kidding me? We are spending $1.5 trillion more per year than we are taking in. Isn't that $15 trillion more dollars in debt over 10 years while we're cutting just $850 billion over 10 years? Who in their RIGHT mind would VOTE for a deal that BAD! Speaker Boehner...if this is the best you can do, you should resign as Speaker and then resign your seat. You are a disgrace as is anyone who votes for this!

pull together and pass the House GOP debt bill, instead of feeding a storyline that pits Republican against Republican.

So it's better to pit the Republican Party against all those who came out last November and gave the GOP a majority in the House in a landslide election? The House leadership is playing with fire.

I think the plan here is to get something on the table so that the republicans can show that they are working to solve the problem. They are putting the dems on the defensive in the political portion of this issue.

The deficit and debt limit are deadly serious issues, but they have been for many years. before those problems can be solved the conservatives have to break the back of the socialists who control the government and the media. This debt limit confrontation is not the end game.

Boehner's right!

Take what we've got -- no tax hikes and a one year ceiling deal. It comes up again just in time for the election.

This is a win -- don't try to portray it otherwise.

Ummmm, the lack of an army behind you is a damn good sign that you are heading in the wrong direction.

Why don't the conservative freshmen in the House force Boehner to step down from being Speaker? Is that even an option? They should at least try, because at the rate this dumba$$ speaker is going they won't have a job come next election.

Boehner should have got a commitment for a balance budget amendment as part of the deal to be brought to the floor BEFORE the next election.

These guys are just trying to move this out of the news cycle....they want to go back to loading up their campaign coffers to ensure longevity of personal, ego-stroking, political parsonage...i.e...washington cocktail circuit that reminds them of how important they have become.

I think you`ve generally hit it on the head. What should have been a rubber stamp for Obama has instead been a major hit. Boehner getting anything from this is a win. Let`s say Boehner crafts something the Tea Party loves—it gets out of the House, and Reid and Obama reject it—the end. I`m not thrilled by what Boehner ISN`T getting, but people`s expectations of what is possible here are, frankly, ridiculous. We`re going to end up reinforcing the idea that the right wants to cut and the left, even in this horrible economy, wants to spend, spend, spend ina way that will cling to them for years. That`s a win.
