The tea party's terrorist tactics By: William Yeomans July 29, 2011 08:22 AM EDT
It has become commonplace to call the tea party faction in the House hostage takers. But they have now become full-blown terrorists.
They have joined the villains of American history who have been sufficiently craven to inflict massive harm on innocent victims to achieve their political goals. A strong America has always stood firm in the face of terrorism. That tradition is in jeopardy, as Congress and President Barack careen toward an uncertain outcome in the tea party- manufactured debt crisis.
As we stumble closer to Aug. 2, it has become clear that many in the tea party are willing to inflict massive harm on the American people to obtain their political objective of a severely shrunken federal government. Their persistence in rejecting compromise, even as the economic effects of the phony crisis they have created mount, has taken their radicalism beyond tough negotiating, beyond even hostage-taking.
As markets fall in anticipation that there may not be a timely resolution; as credit agencies issue dire warnings that the U.S. political system has become so dysfunctional that a credit downgrade may be inevitable, and as America looks weakened in the eyes of the world, the tea partys hostage-taking has evolved into the intentional infliction of harm on innocent Americans to achieve a political objective terrorism.
Terrorism is a tough term, but, unfortunately, it describes tea party tactics precisely. Their first step was to vow not to vote to raise the debt ceiling.
Here, as in many radical factions, there was a split between the purists and the pragmatists. Pragmatists vowed not to raise the ceiling unless draconian cuts were made in the federal government.

extremism in the face of tyranny is not a fault
Falls in nicely with their “The founders were terrorists too!” line of thinking. Liberals are morons.
“...They have joined the villains of American history who have been sufficiently craven to inflict massive harm on innocent victims to achieve their political goals....”
Whew! I’m glad that we have protectors of our country - like folks who initiate ponzi schemes for our retirement, who took money out of that ponzi scheme when it actually had a surplus (and spent it for more ponzi schemes), who had banks that allowed them to draw out more than they had, who....etc...etc...etc.
Politico, shove it up your smelly corporate Obamas, and go back to school.
Start with simple algebra.
You should get through it in a couple of years and then you can graduate to simple stats.
Anything higher is far, far, FAR above your potential.
There will be plenty of “exploded-head” triage for everybody, I think.
Just sickening. This article is disgusting from top to bottom. We should really avoid this kind of trash in this forum. The insanity of continued debt ceiling increases means nothing to some.
Massive harm is coming to the American people IF the government doesn’t quit spending money. It has to end now. It should not be blamed on the Tea Party just because they are pointing out exactly what needs to be done. The problem is that the status quo doesn’t want to stop spending including the old guard Repubs! To blame everything on the tea party who are actually being RESPONISBLE CITIZENS is beyond SHAMEFUL!!
This is ridiculous. Talk about overheated rhetoric!
I don’t agree with the non-negotiable demands approach that some people who are self-designated “Tea Party” leaders are taking, simply because I think it’s a bad strategy and never works in any situation. But the loony left is trying to build up a situation where dissent is criminal.
Oh golly! I’m a terrorist! I’m so proud.........my Mama and Daddy would be proud too if they have lived to see it!
What some call extremism, I call practical common sense.
I meant...RESPONSIBLE!!! Sorry!
What part of “broke” does this horse’s ass not understand?
Make that two medics. ROTFLOL
Lefties just can't help themselves. Everything must be described in the most extreme terms. With the ten year anniversary of 9/11 coming up there are plenty of sick individuals, like the writer, who believe the way is clear to equate acts such as Pan Am 103 and 7/7 London with political disagreements completely legitimate and proper under our Constitution.
Let’s do away with the debt limit so it will all be better and Obama can sleep at night.
The crap is oozing out all over.
The big DC political machine lie of this whole thing is the GOP needs a bill.
NO, the 0 Democrats need a bill. They are the party of spend. They are the ones who have to go to the voters in 2012 and defend their total mishandling of the economy for the last 4 years.
The GOP candidate in 2012 is going to be running against DC. The 2012 election will be a referendum on 0s Presidency.
Time for people to quit buying the propaganda fed them by the DNC Media-Political machine, the 0 Dems, not the GOP, will be hurt the worst by a failure to strike a deal.
Here what you do GOP, you tell the Senate and 0 "CCB was the compromise, if you want a bill, there it is.".
If the tables were turned and these were democrat holdouts...they would be considered patriots!
Wow, what a b_tch. That would really be tough. Kind of like when I sit down with my paycheck every two weeks and figure out what I can pay.
Instead of terrorists , how about the oncologists of American politics? Although our treatment plan of surgery and chemotherapy will be painful, it is the only way to save the patient. Spontaneous remission of the debt disease will not happen. Unfortunately we are so late that the patient might not be saved and just beg for pain relief rather than treatment while waiting for death.
Also call the BS shovel removers. They are going to need several to clean this mess.
Make that two medics. ROTFLOL
What a bunch of socialist/communist/progressive/Alinsky drivel! Count me as one of the terrorists, then!
This truly is our best opportunity for conservative reform in decades. No compromise !
“The tea party’s terrorist tactics”
Terrorists, infiltrators, and next???????
I got it......insurgents.
The author's ignorance of recent history is appalling. The amount of harm done to Americans by the socialist policies of the Democrat Party over the past 60 years is many times greater (and with no signs of abating any time soon) than any policies of the Republican Party.
Would that be the crowd of disaffected and anti-American Marxists who put an ineligible, criminal, unfit, incompetent, American-hating, radical populist in the WH????
You know, if the Democrats really believed this, they would be voting for the Boehner plan. It could easily pass without TP votes.
The Politico is getting soft. They forgot to add "Hooligans", "Economic Wreckers", and "Blood-sucking Kulaks"!
Politico is the DNC’s blog, so what do you expect?
yes- the Tea Party is not approaching this with the same balance and compromise obama and the left wing did with failed policies such as the stimuloss or obozocare...
A pox on them all!
DC Incorporated is filled with spending addicts. Watch them scream with all pity, but do not stop the treatment.
How can the tea party members thwart the will of the House? Boehner should work with Pelosi to get the votes he needs. After all, the Dems are not partisan nor are they hostage takers.
Decades of out of control spending has brought this country to the brink. The hacks in DC past and present have brought us this crisis.
The Tea Party did not cause this crisis. Only a bill that begins to address this is the only solution.
I assumed this was going to be satire, but the author appears to mean what he says. What a lunatic.
I know, this article is more funny than anything else.
It doesn’t seem like we are that far away from a movement to incarcerate and probably execute members of the Tea Party.
and who could blame the libs. I mean, calls to cut federal spending and reduce the size of government could not be more treasonous to these liberal bastards.
Geez Bill, get ahold of yourself spud.
The time’s a-comin’. Hope everyone’s ready.
not just terrorists, RACIST terrorists!
You don’t say “no” to every proposal, then piss and whine that the one making the proposal won’t compromiise!
What is it with you people! I think half the FReepers have turned into residents of “Rock Ridge” from “Blazing Saddles!”
The democrats see they’re about to get lynched, so they put a gun to their own head and tell everyone to back off or they’ll shoot. And half of you morons are panicing that they’ll do it!
The TEA Party influenced GOP has already passed two budgets in the House — the Ryan plan and CC&B. The Senate has refused to even touch either of them, even to heavily rewrite them for conference committee.
Who are the real terrorists and obstructionists?
If the US government continues to increase spending at the current rates, and if it continues raising the debt limit to fund it, within 8 years there will be no more money left in the world to borrow. And one is a “terrorist” if one thinks that is a problem
They have joined the villains of American history who have been sufficiently craven to inflict massive harm on innocent victims to achieve their political goals.
Also this very crisis. The Republicans pass cut, cap and balance and it gets dropped in the Senate shredder immediately. No debates, no amendments, no compromises. Just vote to table it without considering it. Then Boehner backs down to his extremely weak "compromise", and the Dems say they will vote 100% against it. Who is the real "terrorists" in the room threatening to destroy the economy if they don't get their way?
I’m pretty sure this is the writer or spewer of drivel. Imagine that, he’s teaching the future leaders of tomorrow.
