The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of EPIC FAIL!
U.S. Senate | March 20, 2006 | B. Hussein Obama

Posted on 07/30/2011 1:11:05 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can't pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies...

Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that "the buck stops here." Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."

And now you OWN the failure, spunky.

But, but... that was then, this is now. It’s not reckless spending when WE do it. Borrowing from foreign countries to make payments on our debt doesn’t weaken us or burden our grandchildren when WE do it.

It’s not FASCISM when WE do it!!

No need to borrow more if they spend less. It is that simple. It's what We the People have been begging the government to do for as long as I've been breathing. It has to come to a head some day. Today is a good day. Please, Congressmen reading this blog, hold the line. Do not raise an irresponsible government's ability to borrow and spend our sovereignty away.

Unfortunately, there were enough votes to put this joker in charge. Voting him out in a landslide is the only thing that will prove Americans still deserve better.

Note this additional fact, Jim.

The panic argument is that if we do not raise the debt ceiling--and by a huge amount--our credit will plummet. But ultimately what determines our credit worthiness is our ability to actually pay off what we borrow. The fact that the credit rating agencies have not already correctly evaluated what Obama has already done to our credit-worthiness, only reflects their hesitation to face actual reality, where the Treasury is involved.

The reality is that unless the Republicans stand fast, here, the rating will be meaningless; we will have an inflationary spiral that will guarantee that no holder of our bonds will ever see anything like the value of what he actually invested.

But what the Obamanists care about is appearances; and much of the media totally misses the real point. The reality is already much worse than the threatened downgrade would even suggest.

Barry the Buffoon had enough money to

(1) Give $8000 to first-time home buyers
(2) Give $7500 to buyers of the Obama Motors Volt
(3) Spend hundreds of billions to bail out various non-producing parasites
(4) Give money to the UN and the Palestinians (some of which doubtlessly finds its way to Fatah and Hamas)

I do not see why he needs to raise taxes; he has plenty of money to squander so he needs to stop squandering it before I will listen to a single word he has to say.

it’s not really about the debt ceiling

it’s a fight to keep the dems/progressives from delivering the killing blow to the financial well-being of the country.

they’ve already hosed us... they’re just trying to make it so it’s completely unrecoverable, forcing the country into collapse

raising the debt ceiling would signal the US will never stop spending what it doesn’t have. that it’s dollar will never be worth anything. that it would be best for other countries to avoid investing in dollars / America.

this would be victory of the left / progressives

The U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills because it’s buying too much. Stop the spending.

Seems this shouldn’t be too difficult to understand.

BTW-It’s laughable to hear talking head tell everyone we can’t pay social security payments or government workers. If that were the case, then in truth we have to borrow to provide the basic necessities.

Yup. The REPUBLICAN led House should draw up the purse strings and release ONLY enough to pay the current obligations. Don’t default on the debt, but don’t fund the beast either. Not a penny to ObamaCare, the EPA, the TSA, the dept of homeland unsecurity, the dept of uneducation, the uncommerce dept, planned parenthood, acorn, the unions, etc, or any other political organization, including public broadcasting. Cut the fat, cut the pork, cut the waste, cut the fraud. Cut the federal salaries, pensions and benefits, cut their staffing, cut their offices, cut the subsidies. Cut the foreign aid, not a penny to the U.N. or any other world body. Stop the wars, declare victory and bring our troop home. Freeze and or cut all federal budgets. Send the illegal aliens packing and quit subsidizing the illegal alien invasion!

Get the government off our backs, out of our business and out of our faces!! Let the people get back to work and let the free economy (and the tax revenues) soar!!

like any responsible adult facing debts, they should tally up what they are bringing in, subtract payments to debts... and then only spend what’s left (this is the government, saving some money for later is not an option)

this being said:

we bring in $2 trillion.

we owe $14.5 trillion.

interest payment would be about 5% annually... or $700 billion

that leaves $1.3 trillion for everything else... and we haven’t reduced the debt one dime!

assuming we put $300 billion to the debt each year, that would leave $1 trillion for spending. that’s it. now... pick the programs we can pay for from the $1 trillion.

of course, if they want more money... then they need to attract more foreign dollars. to do that, we will need a more diverse economy and the ability to offer attractive deals to foreigners.

i would go so far as to recommend radically lowering taxes on any business coming from outside the country. this would encourage such business while helping bring more money into the country.

This guy makes Jimmmy Carter look like Abe Lincoln. Pretty sad that the worst POTUS of all time has to be a black man, but you can blame Dimorats for that. In their zeal they just did not care that the guy had the experience of a girl scout to running the country.

From a recent Business Week article referenced here a few days ago: “...Kotlikoff concluded that the fiscal gap—i.e., the net present value of all future expenses minus all future revenue—amounts to $211 trillion.”

That $211 Trillion estimate is the largest one I've seen so far. More than mind boggling... Impossible to ever pay off...

Obama should be impeached for scaring the American public as he has done about Social Security and Medicare payments. There are many seniors whose health cannot take such worry. The president is not elected to frighten the public.

Whatever else bad he has done, this is the worst. This tactic is childish, sophomoric, and smacks of early campaign terrorism. This is bad enough coming from Reid and Pelosi, et al, but absolutely criminal when put forth by Obama. It is simply way out of place coming from the Oval Office.

Obama has not led people to feel confident about anything, but has, rather frightened his countrymen. This is a terrible legacy he now owns, no matter how the current issue on the debt ceiling gets resolved.

History will record him as an enemy to the people's faith and peace of mind during this trying time. He has hurt millions with his innacurate accusations and fear mongering speeches. He is an evil, spiteful, vengeful little man who has no comprehension of what his role is in the White House. He has let his thin skin and need to massage his ego take precedence over the welfare of the people he is supposed to protect and reassure during times of trial. What an utter travesty he has committed.

There is simply no place in the White House for such a man who purposely hurts his people with lies and scare tactics. We need to keep pounding this fact in the press and TV. We need to get the root of this problem...Obama's inability to lead ALL the people, of All parties, and stop his trivial, partisan, self-serving behavior...discussed continually on every talk show and blog spot. The man has done a huge injustice to Americans by making them stressed and worried. This is not at all fitting for the office he holds.

That might be the scale of it, $1 == 1 grain of rice. But.... another article I was reading the other day talked about global debt (of which the US Fed has a large part in creating), being estimated at $1.4+ QUADrillion!!! I’m thinking that one will require $1 == 1 grain of sand on the beach. (Get your shovel & bucket out in either case!)

If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent they conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.
