Trump: I May Run for President if Economy Stays Bad
cnbc ^

Posted on 07/30/2011 2:40:45 PM PDT by tsowellfan

Real estate mogul Donald Trump said Friday he'd consider running for president — again — if the U.S. economy "continues to be bad: and "if the Republicans pick the wrong candidate."

"I would give it very, very serious thought," he told CNBC. "There are so many people wanting me to do it."

The Trump Organization president did not say on which party line he'd run if he didn't like the Republican candidate.

But he said congressional Republicans have a great opportunity to "negotiate a great, great deal, but they can’t be weak." He said that any deal to raise the debt ceiling by the Aug. 2 deadline should involve cutting considerable government waste, including repealing the Obama health-care law, which he called "a disaster."

What he doesn't want is a default, he said.

"I don’t advocate default," he said. "What I do say is you can’t be afraid [of a default]. This is the time to settle the problems of years and years of abuse. This is the time for the Republicans to get the country back on track. The Republicans have the cards, the president does not have the cards."

As he did when he considered a presidential run earlier this year, Trump blamed a lot of the problems in the U.S. economy on "foolish leaders" who allow other countries — principally China and the members of OPEC — to steal jobs and keep the U.S. over an expensive oil barrel.

"People don’t respect us any longer, they don’t respect our leaders. With all these foreign countries taking advantage of the U.S., unless somebody addresses that problem we’re never going to be great again," Trump said.

He also railed against overregulation and federal bureaucrats who, he claims, are "sitting around doing nothing. It's just like featherbedding...It's absolutely sinful."

Trump added, "you have to cut, cut, cut. I see the waste. I do a lot of business with the government and it’s not fun."

I disagree with your premise that a RINO would get the votes to beat Obama

Some churches teach that, but I haven’t heard much about it since the WWCG went evangelical. Haven’t heard anything at all about Garner Ted’s break off group since he died either.

So which church espouses that today.

Can you collect unemployment AND campaign contributions if you run for president?

“Socialist” has nothing to do with it. Perot wasn’t a socialist either. You might do a little research into Trumps donations. Politics and power can create strange bed fellows. If Trump goes third party, it will prove me correct.

Too many wives; he is living in adultery along with about 50% of America

None of that matters - nor his foul mouth nor his ego that 'trumps' all others -

If it looks like Obumbles will lose - he'll jump in as the spoiler to assure four more yrs of "The Won" -

We've seen this before - it's the Clinton Plan

If his reasons for getting in are not the above - then he would run as a republican - not an independent. He KNOWS NO independent could win - but they would return the POS CIC to office - with less than 50% of the vote. That's how they returned Bubba.

Trump needs to to hear from the Tea Party loud and clear: Run HONEST - as a republican, or stay the he*l out,

The world is a much easier place to take when you see it the way Gracie Allen did.

If the economy stays bad (it will) then Trump’s pal, Obama will lose to a Republican (not including Romney who is a socialist). If Trump runs he can pull off enough voters to save the boy king.

He’s such an obvious twit.

Like you I would prefer to see a very articulate, intelligent, right-wing conservative going against Obama with no third party so that it will be a one on one race.

However, I refuse to use the liberal's tactic of sueing or demanding somebody out of a race simply because we do not feel we have a strong enough candidate to win.

The American way of winning is to be prepared for a worse-case scenario by nominating the best candidate that can withstand not just one 3rd party candidate but two or three and still come out on top. The America I know LOVES competition because it helps us improve, get better until we are eventually The Best in the world.

Only a liberal democrat would try to win by sueing the competition out of business instead of improving himself to prepare for the big fight and win.

If Trump's so liberal it would seem he would steal more votes from Obama than he would from a conservative.

I understand what you are saying and you are certainly not alone in that thinking. I do not want to see Trump run 3rd party either. But it would make more sense to prepare for such a situation by choosing an unbeatable candidate. Heck, we just might have a third party candidate and it may not even be Trump. It could be Ron Paul or someone else.

Let's focus on finding a candidate that is conservative and can explain real conservatism to America so that independents and liberals will come to think "Geez! How stupid I was! Conservatism really makes a lot of sense, I AM conservative too!"

If Romney or Pawlenty or Huntsman is the nominee I may vote for Trump.

Yes that is a catch 22 because a RINO will certainly generate a third party challenge. You get the gist of course. Rush has just about assured the leadership, that they will generate a third party if they sell out.

He hasn’t said he would support one but who knows.

He’ll get the independent - we hate everybody - dummy vote. That won’t be enough to win but it will be enough to give Obama a win. His socialist base will stick together.

The problem is that in Trump’s eyes the “wrong Republican candidate” is someone who will stop spending, not someone who will continue down the same path that we are already going down. The wrong candidate wil have an “extremist” or “ultra” tag applied by the MSM.

Well, most pastors have given up, but any Orthodox church will teach that and 60 years ago all churches taught that.

I struggled with this over forty years ago, but the fact is I have to obey the law. My first wife was an adulterer who divorced me.

I have been married to the same woman for 39 years now. I prayed for a woman to help me, and God sent her, and I have been greatly blessed. If I am an adulterer then so be it.

Man was not ment to live alone, I guess.

I am sorry. Sounds ghastly.

Maybe God has different answers for different people, I don’t know.
