We have them on our place in Texas also. Didn’t really know how many we had since they are fairly nocturnal here, until we put up game cameras. WOW we’ve got a lot!
“The feral swine are a non-native species suspected of escaping from game farms”
What the heck is a game farm?
A couple of hundred? They think there are only a couple of hundred and they are causing this much trouble? I think they better count again. CA has many, many wild hogs, they are a mix between imported Russian boar and domestic hogs released back in the day when hog farming went bad in the coastal areas. They multiply like rabbits.
Except for Monterey county the limit for wild hogs on the coast of CA is one a day and one in possession. Enough people hunt them to keep them down to a manageable level.
This is what NY needs to do, open season on the suckers and they will soon learn to stay away from humans.
BTW, the reason the season is different in Monterey county is because the hogs there have more of the Russian boar in them then other parts of the state. They get huge and have those wicked looking tusks.
Mmmmmmm ... pork chops ...
Shoot them and eat them, problem solved.
Perhaps someone was truffle hunting, and their wild boars got off the leash.
Some of the pig hunters I’ve seen on TV are using pit bulls with a tusk-proof vest so they can grab the hog and hold it until the guy gets there and stabs the critter with a big knife.
Here’s a video from Australia - they have the same problem and a helicopter comes in handy. Good soundtrack, too.

Kill em and grill em. Problem solved.
One word: bacon.
“The feral swine are a non-native species...”
I thought all swine were non-native to North America, having been imported by colonists and explorers back in the 15th and 16th centuries.
Hmmmn.
Pigs up your direction. (They gonna need a passport to get across the border? Nobody else does down south, but them there Canuks are pretty strict aboot such thongs.)
When I was in Hawaii several of my Samoan friends hunted wild boar with spears. It was hazardous but fun and the pig tasted great after being buried and baked.
We’ve always had those in Texas. They’re called sausage.
"We have a lot of older retired folks who don't have guns," Andersen said. "They call us and hopefully we get there in time to take care of the matter."
Hopefully. The Second Amendment needs to be followed by all...for NUMEROUS reasons. This is just one...
Start raising them near Ground Zero just for giggles .
Only in a democrat stronghold like New York would people be too scared to know how to deal with a wild boar population that needs to clearly be brought under control. Just shoot the damn things and eat them!
My father unloaded a whole clip from an M 1 Garand into a boar coming at him in Germany. He said after the first shot it just kept coming. The last shot dropped it less than 10 feet from him. He thought that after fighting his way across Europe he would die from the damned boar..
