Official: Netanyahu ready to discuss border 'package' ("will not return" to 1967 borders)

Israel has told Middle East power brokers it was ready to discuss a proposed package on borders with Palestinians to help Western powers revive stalled peace talks, an official in Jerusalem said on Monday.

The official denied reports by Israeli and other media outlets that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu had backed down from an earlier rejection of US President Barack Obama's proposal to negotiate a pullback to 1967 lines.

Not sure where these stories come from, but in fact Israel has always negotiated "from" the 1949/1967 lines, as well as making it clear that they won't be returned to. Netanyahu, like his predecessors, have been willing to have these discussions. He's not the one refusing to talk.

In any case, it's a moot point; anytime there's a chance that negotiations might get somewhere, the Palis find a pretext to break it off and start an intifada.

In fact that has been the negotiating point since that time. First they gave up Egyptian territory for peace with Egypt, then peace with Jordan. It seems the rest have continued their war to wipe out Israel. Just once during the modern era it seems that if Israel has been attacked as many times as it has by the “Arabs”, that the Arabs should forfeit any claim to the territory they conquered in the 7th century. The west bank has never been part of a sovereign nation since Jerusalem was the capital of Israel. The “West Bank” belongs to Israel. Let the Jordan be the Palestinian nation (two state solution), since it's ruled by the descendants of a Saudi Prince (ARAB).
