Dems surrender to bullies
The Democrats have done it.
They have completely surrendered to the playground bully and proved that if he pushes hard enough, he will get everything he wants.
And now that the bully is emboldened, he'll push even harder. If I had voted for a Tea Party member, I would be dancing in the streets right now, because the Tea Party just succeeded in short-circuiting democracy. And the Democrats helped them.
Steve Kesel, San Francisco
No tax? No federal funds
I suggest that all the congressional districts that voted for the so-called Tea Party candidates put their wallets where their mouths are.
I recommend all federal spending be immediately suspended to these districts. No more Social Security checks, Medicare, Medicaid, veterans' funds and entitlements, highway funds, law enforcement - any federal funds whatsoever.
In return, these districts should be eligible to not pay any federal income taxes.
Perhaps, in some small way, this will help the deficit problem.
Chris Burt, Oakland
President Chamberlain
President Obama is simply a domestic version of Neville Chamberlain, and the latest deal with the Republicans is his Munich.
A capitulation is not a compromise, and nothing will satisfy the radical conservatives who control Congress.
After Czechoslovakia, Poland.
After cutting Medicare, destroying Social Security.
Jim Harrison, San Francisco
How did it go last time?
In the 1930s, President Herbert Hoover cut federal spending to balance the budget. Unemployment increased, and the Depression got worse.
Now, all we're talking about is how much to cut federal spending. It will work out differently this time, right?
Ralph Harbin, San Francisco

Fallacious cause and effect. IIRC, there were other factors in play here, such as additional business regulations.
Also, FDR increased federal spending AND regulations, and the depression became the Great Depression.
Actually, it looks more to me like they are mad that the Tea Party helped in not having tax increases be a part of the deal.

Why would this be a bad deal for TP voters? The G. does NOT take your ten dollars, subtract a handling charge to buy somebody else’s vote, and then returns to you $9.21, with directions on how to use the money. Who would turn that deal down? Hey, I earned $10, now I get to keep $10 to use as I see fit. Boy! That deal will really teach those TP retards a lesson!!! Also, if TP voters are not to receive any “Federal” funds (there’s no such thing) then they shouldn’t have to pay ANY fed taxes, not just income taxes.
What would a liberal know about democracy? Ask a liberal what they think about holding a public referendum on abortion, or school choice, or teaching intelligent design in public schools, or ending welfare, or banning gay marriage, or opening up ANWR for drilling, or . . .
This would be a great deal for these districts. Many are net outflow districts that subsidize areas like San Francisco.
On top of that, the people who really depend on the government teat would hightail it out while business and new jobs would be moving in.
What, exactly, is it that I should be so all-fired happy about?
You don't agree with our view on taxes? Tell you what. I'm sure I speak for most if not all of my fellow Tea Partiers when I say I am willing to pay the same Federal tax rate General Electric paid last year.
You thought you were going to be raped and murdered, but you were only raped and left naked and bleeding on the side of the road.
Would these birds out in San Fran please explain how we tax ourselves into prosperity?
Did these people ever get a job from a poor person?
Do they think that 99 weeks of unemployment benefits is a fiscal stimulus?
Paul Kantner was right: “San Francisco is 49 square miles surrounded by reality.”
Hah!
Take Back AMERICA! Restore The Constitution!
FUBO GTFO 2012 !
the Tea Party just succeeded in short-circuiting democracy
If things don’t go your way I guess there is a short-ciruit somewhere, huh? Looks to me like the process was an example of how democracy is supposed to work. Elections have consequences and the mandate of the 2010 elections couldn’t have been clearer.
LOL. By the neighbor I like, not the neighbor I hate.
-——please explain how we tax ourselves into prosperity?-——
Prosperity is not an option. Equality, the equality of mediocrity, is the goal.
Yes, anytime the Tea Party can change the debate...GOOD.
There is nothing wrong with San Fran that couldn’t be resolved by a 9.6 Big’un
Those crybabies who are disappointed about there being no BIG tax increases in the budget deal need to get naked and write out a check to the U.S. Treasury. That is one kind of ‘protest’ that would show those wascally Tea Party Hobbits that the commies are ‘serious’ about creating a BIG government.
Hey general dorkenstien, I'd like to do that and KEEP the money I earn, not give it to Uncle Sam to spread my wealth.
so do the artsy fartsy of san francisco GIVE AWAY FOR FREE their art stuff and wares? Do their computer geeks work for free?
do the hippies grow pot for the public good or do they sell it for money?
