Last night on Greta VanSusteren's program, Donald Trump said that if the GOP nominates the "wrong person" and the economy is still bad, he WILL run for President. He then acknowledged that he knows the economy will still be "bad". So, that leaves only one consideration; if he doesn't like the nominee, he's running as a Third Party candidate. He did say, however that he "likes" Michele Bachmann and that he "loves" Sarah Palin. He was very non-committal on Mitt.
Oh boy, the plot thickens.
You are a wise woman!
I make no judgment as to the actual facts of the matter. I do however believe that how it was playing out, on balance it served to benefit Obama's side, and Trump's bull-rush into the issue pretty much finished it in the national discourse.
I think it's entirely possible that that was the entire objective and purpose of Trump's "candidacy" at the time--to remove the issue from Obama and the Democrats' arsenal so that "we" (however defined) could move on to more substantive attacks on Obama's record. That's the Machiavellian aspect that I find delicious to contemplate--even it is a completely bogus hypothesis.
Your mileage may vary.
I think Trump wants Palin to run, and is "signalling" that desire in ten-foot Trump letters from Trump Tower--that's my opinion.
