Post Office Warns of Default; Wants Help From Congress
Internation Business Times ^ | August 5, 2011 | IB Times Staff Reports

The U.S. Postal Service lost $3.1 billion in the third quarter and warns it will default on payments to the federal government if Congress does not step in with help.

[snip]

Total mail volume for the quarter that ended June 30 fell to 39.8 million pieces, a 2.6 percent drop from the same period the previous year.

[snip]

Also, it is required to make an annual payment to the federal government of $5.5 billion. The postal service says high payroll and retiree costs and declining volume has put it in a severe bind.

[snip]

The postal service says it lost $5.7 billion during the nine-month period ending June 30, compared to a $5.4 million loss in the same period of 2010.

SLOT? YOU GOT A SLOT?

That's the FIRST heavily subsidized customer service I'd abolish (given the opportunity).

NO DOOR DELIVERY!

Talk about something antiquated ~ everybody else gets a kiosk, or a box on the street.

I think you are just another one of those whiners everyone despises.

They owe the government money? So, they want the government to give them money? So they can pay the government what they owe the government?

Why not? it worked for GM.

What are you ingesting tonight that makes you scream the way you do? Or are you just going postal?

Why do you assume my mailbox slot is not at the street? You really aren't based in reality if you think door delivery is inappropriate for packages.

So, where do you get your mail delivered and what does the device look like?

BTW, I'm not screaming ~ I'm merely delivering appropriate responses to complainers who would otherwise demand the postal workers' heads for telling you the truth.

Don't complain. Get into line. Ask questions politely. And you might get an answer.

Being a retiree I don't have to be nice anymore. Capice?

In all fairness the post office is like the buggy whip. I rarely get any mail nowadays or 1 or 2 pieces of mail most of the time..

I think they should reduce mail service to just 2 or 3 days a week..

I’ll bet you don’t understand how much medicine is delivered these days. HOme shopping on the internet is growing, not declining.

“Junk” mail isn’t called junk by the businesses that are paying big bucks to have it mailed. They’re trying to keep in business. I thought we Freepers were all for free-market, free enterprise. Why does everyone like to bash local companies for trying to advertise?
